Maha CM reviews implementation of new criminal laws
Ministers of State for Home, Pankaj Bhoyar, and Yogesh Kadam, and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
Earlier, the Chief Minister said that new criminal laws would help establish a fast and progressive law and order system in the state, adding that Maharashtra has been implementing all three laws effectively.
'Twenty-seven mobile forensic vans have been deployed, and a complete network will be established soon. In cases where the punishment exceeds seven years, forensic testing will now be conducted on-site through these mobile forensic vans. This will help gather high-quality evidence. 90 per cent of Maharashtra's 2 lakh-strong police force has been trained in these laws, and the remaining 10 per cent is being completed,' he said.
Fadnavis further stated that to ensure that accused individuals do not have to be physically presented in court repeatedly, new legal provisions allow for testimony to be recorded from prisons through dedicated cubicles connected to courts via online systems.
Each court will have its own designated cubicle. This initiative will reduce pressure on police transport, enhance security, and minimise courtroom congestion.
'Under the new laws, repeated adjournments in courts will not be permitted, and government lawyers will need to be trained accordingly. The meeting provided valuable guidance, and Maharashtra will accelerate efforts to implement these three laws more effectively,' he claimed.

2 key members of Himanshu Bhau gang arrested following gunfire exchange in Delhi
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended two key members of the notorious Himanshu Bhau gang early on Saturday following a brief but intense exchange of fire in the Narela Industrial Area in Outer North Delhi, officers said. A pistol, a revolver, four live cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from the accused. The accused, identified as Mohit Vashisht, 24, and Bhumit Malik, 21, residents of Rohtak in Haryana, were riding a stolen motorcycle when the police attempted to intercept them. According to officers, instead of surrendering, the duo allegedly opened fire at the police team. The officers allegedly fired back in self-defence, resulting in both suspects sustaining gunshot wounds to their legs. They were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment and are now under custody, the police added. The two were wanted in connection with the murder of one Anil. The killing was allegedly carried out on the instructions of Himanshu Bhau as part of an ongoing feud linked to the 2022 murder of Rohit alias Bajrang and his uncle by Anil's nephew Ankit. Vashisht and Malik were booked for Anil's murder under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, registered on June 1 at Shivaji Colony police station in Rohtak. Records indicate that Malik has six previous criminal cases against him, while Vashisht has seven. Further investigation is currently underway to trace other gang members and uncover the full extent of their criminal network. On Friday, the police arrested two men who are alleged henchmen of the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang following another exchange of gunfire in the outer parts of Delhi. The men were held in connection with the murder of Deepak Thakran, 30, who was the nephew of rival gangster Manjeet Mahal. On June 27, Thakran and his seven-year-old daughter were out for a walk when the shooters fired eight rounds, killing him. The girl was injured by bullet splinters. A purported social media account, allegedly belonging to Kapil Sangwan who is hiding in London, claimed responsibility for the hit.

After nearly two decades, as estranged cousins Uddhav and Raj Thackeray came together on one stage during their victory rally in Worli, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has done what even Balasaheb Thackeray failed to do — 'bring him and Raj together'. Taking a swipe at the state government, he added: 'Finally, they witnessed the power of Maharashtra and Marathi people and that's what forced them to withdraw the GRs on the three-language formula.' The Thackeray cousins are holding a victory rally in Mumbai over the Maharashtra government's U-turn on introducing Hindi as a third language in primary schools. At the rally, Raj Thackeray said that there would be no compromise when it comes to Marathi in Maharashtra and that Balasaheb Thackeray dream would be accomplished. 'This Unity for Marathi should remain intact. The BJP government was forced to withdraw its notifications on the three-language formula as they realised Maharashtra will not accept it.' He added: 'Look at the irony, the Hindi speaking states are economically backward and non-Hindi speaking states are ahead. Still, these people want us to learn Hindi. Why? For what? I am not against Hindi but why impose it by attacking the regional language?' Invoking history, the MNS chief said: 'The Maratha empire ruled half of the country, including Gujarat, North Indian states. Did we impose Marathi? No. Hindi is just 200 years old. Why was it being done unnecessarily? They actually wanted to test if Mumbai can be separated from Maharashtra.' Speaking about BJP veteran L K Advani, Raj asked: 'L K Advani studied in a Christian missionary convent school…. in English medium…. can anybody question his Hindutva?' He added, 'Shrikant Thackeray (my grandfather) studied in English medium… can you question his commitment for Marathi? Where you studied and in which language has nothing to do with your commitment for Marathi. It has come from within.' The rally comes a day after CM Devendra Fadnavis, whose government is on the backfoot over the move to include Hindi as the third language in primary schools in the state, had issued a stern warning. Saying that there was nothing wrong about harbouring Marathi pride, Fadnavis said, 'It does not give individuals the licence to force, intimidate, or physically assault those who do not speak Marathi.' In Mumbai, the Marathi vote bank accounts for up to 30 to 35 per cent. In the past, the BJP often depended on alliance partner, the undivided Shiv Sena, to bag the Marathi votes in Mumbai and its adjoining districts. The MNS, on the other hand, was often used by pan-Indian parties to cut into Shiv Sena votes.
