Railways to build 100 MEMUs and 50 Namo Bharat trains for short trips
'Yesterday, two major decisions were made. To ease passenger travel, 100 MEMUs will be manufactured with 16 and 20 coaches. Earlier, MEMUs were manufactured with 8 or 12 coaches. A new factory is being set up in Kazipet, Telangana where these trains will be made,' the minister said at the inauguration of India's largest automobile loading facility at Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar plant.
A MEMU is a type of electric multiple unit train designed for operation on mainline tracks, connecting city centres with suburban areas for short to medium-distance routes with frequent stops.
The minister also added that the ministry of railways will build 50 new Namo Bharat trains. These air-conditioned trains were developed for short-distance travel between cities. The first of these trains was launched last year in Gujarat.
The minister also said that the GatiShakti Cargo Terminal, dedicated for Maruti Suzuki's car transportation, will enable greening of logistics as these cars were earlier ferried via road transport.
'In line with the vision of the Prime Minister, railways undertook major reforms in 2021 to strengthen multi-modal logistics, resulting in the construction of 108 multi-modal cargo terminals in a short span of time. The terminal in Haryana, where the announcement was made, is spread over 45 acres and has a cargo handling capacity of up to 4.5 lakh cars,' he said.
The minister also said that a pilot project in the Bikaner division of North Western Railway to publish final charts with passenger allocation 24 hours before the train's departure has borne great results. He added that the facility will allow passengers to plan their journeys better.
Currently, charts are published some 2-3 hours before the train's departure time, leaving passengers anxious about their travel plans.
Maruti Suzuki transported 518,000 units in 2024-25 through the Automobile Freight Train Operator scheme. The railways, in FY25, crossed the mark of one million cars transported through its network. Now, 20 per cent of all cars manufactured in India are transported via rail.
At the same event, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the government's railway work in the state and the Manesar cargo terminal will ease connectivity to ports on the western coast, enabling better access to export networks.

153 countries importing toys from India: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): India's toy industry, once heavily dependent on imports, is now manufacturing domestically and exporting to 153 countries, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal addressing the 16th Toy Biz International B2B Expo 2025 on Friday said as he highlighted this remarkable transformation. He said that this shift has been made possible through consistent policy support, the enforcement of quality standards, and the strengthening of local manufacturing clusters. The implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO), he added, has helped make India a quality-conscious country and enabled domestic toy manufacturers to meet global benchmarks. The Minister stated that India's population of 1.4 billion offers a vast captive market, which creates a natural advantage for scaling up manufacturing. With this scale, the industry can achieve cost efficiency and become globally competitive. The large domestic market, he said, not only supports expansion but also acts as a foundation for international growth. To capture the global market, Goyal stressed the need for the industry to focus on good branding, attractive packaging, and strong product design. He said that if these three aspects are prioritised, Indian toys can gain stronger appeal across international markets. The growth of the toy industry, Goyal noted, reflects the broader journey of development in the country. He recalled that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Vocal for Local initiative, it was met with skepticism by many, as foreign products dominated consumer preference. However, under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the belief that Local can go Global, awareness and support for home-grown industries have steadily increased. Goyal stated that startups developing innovative toy concepts have received significant support through the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which has now been extended to 20 years. This, he said, has provided access to collateral-free loans for small businesses. He further informed that to promote domestic production, 18 toy clusters across the country have been supported by the Ministry of MSME. To build on this progress, the Minister said that the government is planning to introduce a new promotional scheme for the toy sector. The scheme, he explained, will aim to help Indian toy manufacturers become world-class by enhancing design capabilities, ensuring quality manufacturing, strengthening packaging, and supporting brand building. With sustained focus on innovation, quality, and market development, Goyal expressed confidence that India's toy industry is poised to become a key player in the global market. (ANI)

Catalysing entry into the formal workforce
Even as its overall economic heft grows, unemployment continues to be a major worry in the world's most populous country. According to the World Bank, India's employment rate has indeed shown a positive trend in recent years, with its growth outpacing the increase in the working-age population. However, large regional and demographic variations persist in the labour market. The recent move by the central government to launch an employment-linked incentive scheme with an allocation of ₹99,446 crore aims to bridge some of the gaps. Recently cleared by the Union cabinet, the scheme aims at skilling young Indians and providing them fresh opportunities, apart from formalising more of the workforce and bolstering social security. The goal is to create over 3.5 crore formal jobs over two years, of which nearly 2 crore will be entrants to the workforce. Among these first-timers, employees will be eligible to get up to ₹15,000 deposited in their provident fund accounts. On the other side, employers will be given incentives for up to two years for generating additional jobs, with the benefits extended for another two years for the manufacturing sector.

CM urges Centre to relax sand extraction, sound rules
Goa CM Pramod Sawant Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday urged Union govt to relax sand extraction norms, allow music beyond restricted times to boost tourism, and start a train from Pernem to Canacona to decongest roads. Sawant held a fruitful meeting with Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi. Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar was also present at the meeting. 'Discussed a wide range of environment and forest-related issues. Grateful for his (Yadav's) intervention and prompt resolution of most of the concerns,' Sawant said. He urged the Union minister to relax the sand extraction norms for the state, akin to those stipulated for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He sought amendments to the CRZ Notifications of 2011 and 2019, besides sustainable mining guidelines. Govt has said that the prohibition of sand extraction under these notifications adversely affected the availability of sand and the livelihood of dependent families. Sawant said Goa also made a representation to Centre to work out a solution to relax the 10pm restriction on amplified sound. 'To ensure that tourists are not inclined to go to other countries instead, we have requested Centre to work out a solution to relax sound restrictions beyond 10pm for events held at outdoor venues,' Sawant said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sensação de queimação nos pés? Insira essa planta ao acordar G!Saú Undo A senior official said that as Goa is an economy largely dependent on tourism, it often bears the brunt of sound restrictions. 'Tourists who flock to the state with the aim of partying all night, as well as wedding planners, are often left disappointed with the 10pm sound restriction,' the official said. It has often been reported that locals from the coastal belt complain about loud music being played in their vicinity. State govt thus decided to crack down on loud music, and several FIRs were filed against establishments along the coastal belt because of noise pollution. With the tourism industry being 'severely hit' by noise pollution norms, Sawant raised the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi in Jan and urged him to bring reforms to create designated zones to allow music beyond 10pm.
