This is TECNO's second tri-fold
The design of the PHANTOM Ultimate is different from that of the Huawei Mate XT . TECNO's prototype is an inward-folding device, meaning there's another cover screen when the phone is completely folded.According to TECNO, this design protects the huge 9.94-inch display much better when the phone is folded. To achieve this, TECNO has developed a custom-engineered dual-hinge system called a "waterdrop hinge" for the first fold and a larger hinge for the part that folds on top. The portion that wraps around the first fold has a self-locking mechanism to keep the three parts folded securely in place. The TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold has a 9.94-inch main screen (that would most likely be marketed as a 10-inch display), and the crease is minimal on both folds, according to TECNO. When fully folded, the phone is just 11.49 mm thick, compared to the Mate XT, which comes in at 12.8 mm folded.TECNO is keeping the specs under wraps; all we know is that the phone features a 5000 mAh battery, probably in three separate cells.Surprisingly, this prototype is TECNO's second attempt at the tri-fold design, and confusingly enough, the first one was called PHANTOM Ultimate 2, and it was showcased at the MWC earlier this year The company also showed the world's thinnest smartphone (at the time) at the same event—the TECNO Spark Slim, measuring just 5.75 mm The PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold is expected to show up at IFA in September, but don't get your hopes high for a mainstream model; the Spark Slim never got out of the prototype stage. It seems that our only hope now lies in Samsung and its Galaxy G Fold tri-folding phone, which may or may not be released

Xiaomi is ready with HyperOS 2 and it's shifting its focus on HyperOS 3, ends support for 9 phones

A user on Xiaomi's Feedback app received interesting information regarding Xiaomi's plans regarding HyperOS. Turns out, the company has officially ended the development of HyperOS 2 and is redirecting all of its resources to HyperOS 3. It looks like Xiaomi is done with HyperOS 2 as all phones entitled to the OS update received it, so it's time to focus solely on bringing HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, on time. Additionally, a member from the developer team clarified that users should not expect any more HyperOS 2 improvement updates. Instead, the company will focus on addressing all known issues with HyperOS 3. Key improvements include enhanced animation smoothness and visual effects, improved system responsiveness, a refined UI, and an optimized user experience. To be fair, some of those sound vague. Notably, Xiaomi may name its upcoming OS HyperOS 26, in line with the release year. Unfortunately, Xiaomi hasn't announced a release timeline, so we don't know which phones will get the update first. On a semi-related note, nine Xiaomi devices are receiving their last updates this year. It's the end of the road for the Redmi A1, A1+, Poco C50, Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro, Mi 11 Lite 5G NE, Mi 11 LE, Poco M5, and Redmi 11 Prime 4G. All these devices will get their last security patch this September. Via 1 | Via 2

Useful Google Maps feature mysteriously disappears and returns. What to do next time it happens

Google has worked hard to make Google Maps easy to use while still stuffing plenty of useful information into the app. For example, let's say you're on the road and you need to find a gas station pronto. You may have just noticed that the gauge in your vehicle is about to be pinned to the "E." Or, if that isn't harrowing enough, nature is calling and you need a place to answer that call. Typing the word "Gas" into the Google Maps search bar at the top of the display on Android and iOS devices will show you where gas stations are located near you. It also includes the name of the gas station, the price of gas there, and whether it is open or closed. Tap on the red dot indicating the presence of a particular station, and a pop-up screen appears from the bottom covering about half of the display. This screen shows the name of the station, how far away you are from it, and even shows photos of the place. Typing Gas on the Google Maps app will show you nearby gas stations and give you directions to them. | Image credit-PhoneArena More importantly, it gives you a directions button allowing you, with one more tap, to get turn-by-turn directions to the place where you can fill up your car with gas and/or empty your bladder. This feature can be a lifesaver at a time when no driver is at his or her best. You're waiting for your car to start sputtering out, or you feel as though your bladder will explode. With your attention diverted to one or both of these things, you're not concentrating on the road as you should be. So yes, this is a feature that you'd hate to see disappear for no reason, which is something that Google is wont to do from time to time. However, according to some posts on Reddit, last week, Google removed the feature from Android phones while leaving it on iOS. One Redditor typed, "When I look up 'gas' on Google Maps, it used to show me gas stations along with the price of gas in each station. However, it seems to have stopped showing the price of gas since today on both my cell phone as well as Google Maps on a desktop web browser." Some Android users were tying this in to the installation of the latest version of Google Maps. However, this is a server-side feature, which means that the version of Google Maps shouldn't matter, and it is up to Google to flip the switch and stop this helpful tool from appearing on certain Android devices. Complaints about the disappearance of the "Gas" tool came from Canada and the U.S. (Las Vegas and the New England area of the States). Then there was the question of whether the disappearance of the feature was a bug or something that Google did on purpose. It appears that 12 hours after Android users running the Google Maps app first started noticing that typing "Gas" into the app failed to bring up the desired information, the feature started working again. Considering that there haven't been other complaints posted on Reddit about this, I think we can safely assume that this was a short-term scare for Google Maps users on Android. But should this happen again, you might want to consider installing a dedicated app that will help you find the closest gas station. The best one I've found is GasBuddy which can be loaded on both Android and iOS devices. If you tap "Gas" into Google Maps on your Android phone and you're not seeing the feature appear, then the outage could be more serious than we thought. This is why Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 units aren't unfolding fully

A few days ago, a concerning bit of news reached our ears: Fold 7 units weren't unfolding properly when customers went to look at them in stores. This occurrence now has a semi-official explanation, and the bottom line is that you shouldn't worry about this if you're considering buying Samsung's best insider with close ties to the supply chain has revealed ( translated source ) that there is nothing inherently wrong with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. They say it's an 'official explanation' but, in Chinese tech circles, that usually means that someone on the inside has relayed this information. Basically, the Fold 7 has an adhesive that coats its main display. When these phones remain folded for a very long time, and are then unfolded, the adhesive can take a while to fully recover and adapt to its changing form. After some general use, the screen should begin to properly unfold. You can also apply slight pressure to unfold it completely, though I'd rather let the adhesive take its time. The gist is that the Fold 7 demo units that consumers encountered this problem with probably remained untouched for quite a while before. Galaxy Z Fold 7 greatly improved the crease visibility. | Image credit — PhoneArena You may even encounter this problem on a Fold 7 that you've ordered, but now you know that it doesn't mean that you've received a defective unit. And, if this isn't your first foldable, you might have already encountered this phenomenon before, and were confused about people making it a big deal. Most Fold 7 units seem to unfold properly without any problems right out of the box. What's interesting to me is whether next year's foldable iPhone will also have this problem. Reports are claiming that Apple's foldable has the most advanced display and hinge technology in the entire industry. This is because the company has been trying its hardest to produce a foldable phone that has a completely invisible crease. Much like the problem with the Fold 7 , however, an invisible crease isn't seeming too likely with current technology. Aside from this minor pet peeve, the only real downsides to the Fold 7 are the 4,400 mAh battery, and the lack of S Pen support. Other than that, it's one of the most advanced phones that Samsung has ever made.
