Pakistan writing its own epitaph by offering sanctuary to terrorists: BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
Talking to reporters while celebrating Eid ul-Azha, Naqvi said Pakistan has given a licence to "barbarian beasts" to wound humanity and Islam and made terrorism and terrorists its "national industry and national assets", according to a statement.
Naqvi celebrated the festival by offering "gujiya", a sweet associated traditionally with Holi, to people.
All the festivals of the world are celebrated together in India with fervour and gaiety, and that is why it is called "Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, referring to the Narendra Modi government's emphasis on celebrating different facets of Indian culture together.

Israel strikes Syria to protect Druze: Who are they and why is the Jewish state bombing Damascus sites for them?
Israel launched powerful airstrikes in Damascus on Wednesday, intending to damage the defence ministry and the presidential palace in response to Syrian government forces attacking Druze communities in southern Syria. This action marks a significant escalation by Israel, which vows to destroy Syrian government forces if they do not withdraw from the Druze-majority city of Sweida. The United States views the situation as 'worrisome,' urging Israel to halt the strikes. But, Israel threatened to intensify the attacks if Syrian government forces do not withdraw. The Druze are followers of a religion that is an offshoot of Islam and are primarily spread across Syria, Lebanon and Israel. The minority community majorly resides in the Sweida province of southern Syria and was at times caught between the forces of the former Assad regime and extremist groups during Syria's ten-year civil war. More than 20,000 Druze live in the Golan Heights, which is a plateau that Israel seized from Syria during the 1967 war. Most of these Druze identify themselves as Syrian citizens and rejected an offer of Israeli citizenship when Israel seized the region. Those who refused were given Israeli residency cards but are not considered Israeli citizens. Israel's intervention stems from a long-standing commitment to protect the Druze, particularly those in Syria, due to deep historical ties with its own Druze citizens. On Tuesday, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is 'committed to preventing harm to the Druze in Syria due to the deep brotherly alliance with our Druze citizens in Israel.' Earlier, Syrian government troops were dispatched to the Sweida region on Monday to intervene and put an end to the fighting between Druze fighters and Bedouin armed men. However, the Syrian troops ended up clashing with the Druze militias themselves, further escalating tensions. A Druze spiritual leader reported on Tuesday that his community has been a victim of a 'barbaric attack' by Syrian government forces. However, the government denied those claims and blamed some outlawed gangs for the violence against the community. (With inputs from CNN)

CM Mann urges Union food minister to release Punjab's share of Rs 9,000 crore under RDF, market fees
Mann raised the issue of non-allowance of RDF since Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2021-22 and insufficient allowance of market fees since Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2022-23. During a meeting at Joshi's residence here, the chief minister also requested for quick movement of rice grains from the state to enable space for the current season. New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday sought the intervention of Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi for the release of state's pending share of over Rs 9,000 crore related to the Rural Development Fund (RDF) and market fees. He emphasized that the purpose of RDF is to promote agriculture and rural infrastructure, including the development of rural roads, marketing infrastructure, storage facilities in mandis, and automation and mechanization of mandis. The chief minister said that despite amending the Punjab Rural Development Act, 1987, in accordance with the Department of Food & Public Distribution guidelines, the Punjab's share in RDF has not been released since KMS 2021-22. Mann stated that Rs 7,737.27 crore under RDF and Rs 1,836.62 crore under market fees are yet to be released by the Centre, a Punjab government's statement said. The chief minister noted that this non-reimbursement has severely impacted the development and maintenance of rural infrastructure and the rural economy in the state. He also highlighted the persistent shortage of covered storage space in the state over the past two years. During KMS 2023-24, he said that the shortage of space led to the extension of the delivery period for milled rice up to September 30, 2024. Mann said that this caused concern among millers during the last Kharif season, making them initially reluctant to lift and store paddy, adding that the issue was later resolved with the cooperation of central government. The chief minister said that for KMS 2024-25, out of 117 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of rice to be delivered to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), only around 107 LMT had been delivered by June 30, 2025. Mann said that only 80 LMT of rice has been moved out of the state in the last 12 months. He further said that although FCI had planned to move 14 LMT in June 2025, only 8.5 LMT was actually lifted. The chief minister stressed the need for the movement of at least 15 LMT of rice in July 2025 to complete milling by July 31. He said that delays may trigger unrest among millers and hinder paddy procurement for KMS 2025-26, . To optimize storage, he urged the Union minister to adopt a proactive approach to identifying, approving, and hiring covered godown. Mann said that a strategy of converting covered godowns of wheat to rice needs to be implemented. This strategy could free up 7 LMT of capacity for rice storage in KMS 2025-26, he said, adding that this model be adopted nationwide to mitigate space shortages. Raising the issue of 'arthia' (agent) commission, the chief minister said that the Union government had de-linked the commission from MSP in Kharif season 2020-21. One Nation, Two Laws: Digvijaya Singh's social media post kicks up political row
BHOPAL: Rajya Sabha member and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh's Facebook post sparked a political row on Wednesday. Captioned 'Ek Desh Do Kanoon' (One Nation, Two Laws), the post by the septuagenarian politician showed two pictures – one where the Kanwar Yatra is blocking the road and the other where a cop is seen kicking men offering namaz on the road. The post pictorially questioned two sets of actions by authorities on the religious practices of different communities. The post triggered angry reactions from the ruling BJP. Slamming the senior Congress leader over the post, the MP cabinet minister, Vishwas Sarang, termed Singh as 'Maulana Digvijaya Singh.' 'He only opposes Sanatan Dharma. He has not even spared the holy Kanwar Yatra. What else can be expected from a man (Singh) who has glorified anti-India Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, but questioned every operation of the Indian defence forces and never missed any opportunity to defame the Sanatan Dharma and Hindu sadhus. But mocking our festivals and holy Yatras through such social media posts will no longer be tolerated, he (Singh) needs to apologise,' Sarang said.
