"We have at least 31 dead members of the Eucharistic Crusade movement, with six seriously injured... some young people were kidnapped, we have no news of them," Father Aime Lokana Dhego, parish priest of the Blessed Anuarite parish of Komanda, told AFP.
The priest added that seven other bodies had been discovered in the town.

", Christophe Munyanderu, coordinator of the local NGO Convention for the Respect of Human Rights, gave a provisional death toll of 38.
Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, army spokesman in Ituri, did not comment on the toll but confirmed the attack to AFP, stating that "the enemy is believed to have been identified among ADF" rebels.
The bloodshed comes after months of calm in the region of Ituri, bordering Uganda.
The last major attack by the ADF was in February, leaving 23 dead in Mambasa territory.
The town of Komanda in Irumu territory is a commercial hub linking three other provinces -- Tshopo, North Kivu, and Maniema.
The ADF, originally Ugandan rebels who are predominantly Muslim, has killed thousands of civilians and ramped up looting and killing in northeastern DRC despite the deployment both of the Ugandan army alongside Congolese armed forces in the area.
At the end of 2021, Kampala and Kinshasa launched a joint military operation against the ADF, dubbed "Shujaa", which has so far been unable to dislodge the group.

Three, including two nuns, held for human trafficking in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Three persons, including two Catholic nuns who had reportedly come from Agra, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Durg on Friday for alleged human trafficking amid suspicion of coerced religious conversion. They were remanded to 14-day judicial custody, a police officer said. The trio were booked under BNS Section 143 (trafficking of persons). All three were caught accompanying three young women aged between 18 and 20 years, hailing from Narayanpur district in south Bastar, after Bajrang Dal activists spotted them at Durg railway station. The group was allegedly preparing to travel to Agra for training and subsequent employment opportunities. Bajrang Dal members staged demonstrations at the Durg GRP police station demanding strict action against those allegedly involved in human trafficking and forced religious conversion. 'The nuns had come to Durg merely a day before without any valid reason. They were about to board a train along with the rescued girls to Agra when we spotted them,' said Ravi Nigam, a Bajrang Dal leader. Members of the Christian community also gathered at the GRP Durg station and were seen defending the nuns. The two nuns — Preeti Marry and Vandana Francis — who had come from Agra, along with Sukhman Mandavi from Narayanpur, were produced before a local court in Durg and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The rescued girls have been sent to the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Durg. Meanwhile, Congress MP K C Venugopal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai seeking stringent action against the perpetrators. Kochi: The Syro-Malabar Church on Sunday strongly condemned the arrest of two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh, calling it an attack on minorities. The nuns—Sister Vandana and Sister Preeti from the Green Gardens religious community—were arrested by the railway police in Durg on Friday, on charges of human trafficking. The Church stated that the nuns were accompanying three adult women to Fatima Hospital in Agra, where they were scheduled to begin work. Despite carrying all the required documents, they were intercepted at Durg railway station by a mob claiming to be Bajrang Dal activists, who accused them of engaging in religious conversion.
