MSU to host Indiana 3-star defensive end prospect on unofficial visit
Michigan State football is gearing up for a big day of spring practice tomorrow, that comes with a huge day in recruiting. The Spartans are already hosting their top wide receiver prospect for an unofficial visit, and now another top prospect is gearing up for an unofficial visit to spring practice in East Lansing.
Trevor Gibbs, a 3-star ATH prospect from Crown Point (IN), is joining Zachary Washington in East Lansing for an unofficial visit on Tuesday. Gibbs ranks as the No. 624 overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
At 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Gibbs position at the next level is something that is to be determined for many schools, but determining that Chad Wilt is running this recruitment, it is safe to infer that Gibbs is believed to be a defensive end, edge rusher prospect to the Spartans.
Gibbs currently has a Boston College, Cincinnati and Indiana official visit on the books, and while he might not yet have a Michigan State offer, one could be on the horizon, with an official visit being scheduled shortly after.

Jonathan Smith's Spartans, Scarlet Knights tie in Big Ten preseason media poll
Michigan State football finished last season 14th in the Big Ten Conference, going 5-7 (3-6) overall. In 2025, they're expected to perform just slightly better. released their Big Ten Football Preseason Rankings for the 15th-straight year Monday morning. The Spartans are projected to finish 13th in the conference, tied with Rutgers. Michigan State was voted to the top spot on this particular poll just once, in 2014, though it won the conference in both 2013 and 2015, and has nine total Big Ten championship victories. Head coach Jonathan Smith is entering his second year guiding the Spartan program following six years at Oregon State. Smith was named Pac-12 Co-Coach of the Year in 2022 and led the Beavers to a College Football Playoff ranking of 11 in 2023. Smith built a strong foundation in his first season with Michigan State, which the Spartans will look to improve this fall. Michigan State's 2025 recruiting class is ranked 57th nationally and 16th in the Big Ten, per 247Sports. Former Spartan Jase Richardson back around program following strong NBA Summer League
The culture at Michigan State basketball is simply different, and former Spartans star Jase Richardson further proved that in the past few days. Richardson just finished up an impressive showing in his first career professional action during the NBA Summer League so what's next for him? Maybe a tropical trip or some other destination before preparing for his rookie season in the NBA? Nope, he's right back at Michigan State. Richardson posted an Instagram picture on Sunday showing he was back at the Spartans' practice facility with a simple comment about his return to East Lansing, Mich. -- "always home." As a true freshman, Richardson became the Spartans' top player and helped lead them to a Big Ten title and Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. Former players and those close to the program always talk about how the culture at Michigan State is different from many other places. Former UNC pitcher named amongst ESPN's Top 50 MLB Trade Deadline candidates
Don't be shocked to see this former Diamond Heel on a new MLB team come August. Athletes will struggle, even at the professional level. Just ask Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen, the former UNC standout who is mired in the worst season of his MLB career. Gallen, who finished top fiv ive in NL CY Young voting for the 2023 MLB season, currently sports a 7-10 win-loss record with a 5.40 earned run average. Despite striking out 110 batters, good enough for 30th amongst all pitchers, Gallen just gave up six runs in a Saturday loss to the sub-.500 Los Angeles Angels. Sometimes, players just need a change of scenery to rediscover their talent. Such could be the case for Gallen, whom ESPN recently named a Top 50 Trade Deadline Candidate. "Gallen was excellent for the past three seasons but now, in a contract year, is posting career-worst numbers in almost every category," Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan wrote. "His stuff looks similar, but he's allowing much more damage when hitters make contact. That said, his strikeout-to-walk ratio is back to normal in his past five starts, at 29-to-5, despite a 6.04 ERA in that span. Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said the team does not plan to deal away players at the deadline, but if Arizona doesn't make a run, it could reap a huge return with all its impending free agents." Arizona is in a comfortable spot itself, sitting at .500 and eight games out of first place in the NL West, with a deficit even closer in the wild card race. I'm sure the Diamondbacks want the former Diamond Heel for their playoff push – and they have until July 31 to decide. Gallen compiled a 14-13 win-loss record at North Carolina, compiling a 3.36 ERA and striking out 231 batters. Gallen was part of Arizona's World Series run in 2023, starting Game 1 as its staff ace, then followed that season up with a 14-6 campaign in 2024.
