Former Spartan Jase Richardson back around program following strong NBA Summer League
Richardson just finished up an impressive showing in his first career professional action during the NBA Summer League so what's next for him? Maybe a tropical trip or some other destination before preparing for his rookie season in the NBA? Nope, he's right back at Michigan State.
Richardson posted an Instagram picture on Sunday showing he was back at the Spartans' practice facility with a simple comment about his return to East Lansing, Mich. -- "always home." You can see the post from Richardson below:
Richardson starred for the Spartans in his lone year of college hoops this past season. As a true freshman, Richardson became the Spartans' top player and helped lead them to a Big Ten title and Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. That strong play resulted in him being selected by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA Draft last month.
Former players and those close to the program always talk about how the culture at Michigan State is different from many other places. This is just another example of how head coach Tom Izzo and others around the Spartans' program always make it a place where former players want to come back to and visit.

Report: Grizzlies' Cedric Coward expected to be ready for training camp
Memphis Grizzlies forward Cedric Coward is reportedly expected to be ready for the start of training camp ahead of his rookie campaign, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac. Coward didn't participate in the NBA Summer League as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury that limited him to six games last season at Washington State. He was considered doubtful to play and didn't join the team until July 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 11th pick said after the draft that he felt like he could play in the desert, but added that the decision to clear him would likely be made by the organization. A team executive told Smith that Coward is expected to be cleared when the team convenes in late September. On drafting Cedric Coward: 'We're so excited about having him. Cedric is going to be really good for us. He should be ready to go for camp. You have to have good wings to win big in our league, and I think Cedric with Jaylen (Wells) is going to be great for us,' a Grizzlies front office executive said. Coward averaged 17.7 points, seven rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 blocks on 40% shooting from 3-point range (12-of-30) last season as a senior. He produced a season-high 30 points and three assists on Nov. 18 in a win over Northern Colorado. The 21-year-old is highly touted for his ability to score at all three levels and defend multiple positions, boasting a 7-foot, 2 1/4-inch wingspan. He had a rapid rise after beginning at Willamette University (Division III) and playing two seasons at Eastern Washington. Coward was highly sought after by the Grizzlies and projects to be a player who can contribute immediately. They believe he has a bright future ahead and are eager to get him back on the court.

Colts make clear this isn't make-or-break season for Anthony Richardson
Colts management does not think this season will be the one that makes or breaks Anthony Richardson. Richardson is heading into his third season in the NFL, and during his first two, he's had plenty of ups and downs, inconsistencies and injuries, playing 15 games out of a possible 34 games. Even with this tumultuous beginning of Richardson's career, Colts general manager Chris Ballard said his young signal-caller doesn't necessarily have to have a breakout season. 'If you think, 'Hey he's on the right trajectory,' why are you gonna flush him, just because people outside think you should flush him, I don't agree with that.' Though Ballard has backed his quarterback, the Colts brought in former Giant Daniel Jones this offseason to provide competition for the starting spot. Advertisement But the Indianapolis GM cited examples of teams giving up on their quarterbacks as a cautionary tale for what could happen if they punt on Richardson too quickly. 'Do you think people regret Baker Mayfield's timeline? Sam Darnold's timeline?' Ballard said. In the case of the two quarterbacks Ballard mentioned, both flourished outside of the teams that drafted them. Advertisement 4 Colts GM Chris Ballard talked about Anthony Richardson on Tuesday. AP The Browns moved on from Mayfield after four up-and-down seasons, and he's now become a solid leader on the Buccaneers. Darnold took multiple teams to find his mojo after getting drafted in 2018 by the Jets. Last year on the Vikings, his fourth NFL team, he led the team to the playoffs and earned a spot in the Pro Bowl for the first time, and he is now the starting quarterback for the Seahawks. 4 Anthony Richardson last season against the Jets. Trey Hendrickson explains his holdout as Bengals drama deepens
Trey Hendrickson peeled back the curtain on why he's holding out on the Bengals. Speaking with The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the star pass rusher said he's in Jacksonville training after he didn't get what he wanted during negotiations with the franchise. 'I spent the last 30 days at my home in Cincinnati, which is across the river from the stadium,' Hendrickson told the outlet. We were given two offers within a 24-hour period, and (neither) of them had the guarantees we were looking for. I wanted to be there, but there's no way I would be able to sit there in the house and hear the practice whistles while also being a distraction. I don't want to ruin the other 10 guys' 2025 season on my contract language. Advertisement Defensive end Trey Hendrickson walks off the field following the Bengals' road win over the Titans on Dec. 15, 2024. 'I was more than willing to take less in some ways in order to make a deal work to accommodate the presented needs. I verbalized to the Bengals that I wanted to be a captain, to lead a young defense. And once rookie Shemar Stewart gets back at camp, I want to pass along the knowledge that I have, just like Cam Jordan once did for me. As I see it, Shemar and I are not competitors, we're teammates. I'm excited to go to work with him when the time comes.' Contract talks appeared to be trending in the right direction Monday before Hendrickson posted a photo to his Instagram story Tuesday with a location tag of Florida — hundreds of miles south of the Bengals' training camp. Advertisement Just one day earlier, Bengals owner Mike Brown expressed optimism on a potential deal with Hendrickson. 'We will get it done at some point, I think,' Brown told reporters. 'I think we are in a good spot. I hope this thing comes together soon.' Hendrickson had high praise for Brown in his conversation with The Athletic despite the tough negotiations. I don't think anyone in Cincinnati has a bigger heart, I understand this is part of the business… I don't want to repeat my actions at (mandatory) minicamp,' Hendrickson said. 'I have a great relationship with Zac [Taylor] and I want to keep it that way. The Bengals want me to be in Cincinnati and I want to be in Cincinnati.' The Bengals have reportedly only been willing to offer Hendrickson, 30, one year of guaranteed money. Fellow star pass rushers T.J. Watt, Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett have all received three years of guaranteed money in recent months. Hendrickson, who is set to make $15.8 million in the final year of his contract this year, led the NFL in sacks last season with 17.5, was named First Team All-Pro and was second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
