Security forces conduct mockdrills in Kashmir ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Ahead of Amarnath Yatra, security forces conducted mock drills at various places in Kashmir on Wednesday. Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel during a mock drill on coordination and emergency response, ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, at a transit camp at Pantha Chowk, on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday. The yatra will begin on July 3 and will conclude on August 8. The drills were held at various places on the route of yatra, camps and other places. It was part of an exercise to meet any contingency.
Inspector general of police Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that the Amarnath yatra begins from next week and J&K Police and other security agencies had made all the security arrangements. 'Compared to previous years this time in depth and multi-layered security arrangements have been made for security of yatra. We have distributed security of yatra in zones and sectors and today in Kashmir at every place weather camps, roads or interior sections SOP drills were conducted. The aim of these drills is to make constigency response more refined.'
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah had already urged yatris to visit in good numbers as adequate security arrangements are already in place.

Russian woman, her two daughters found in Karnataka cave, visa expired in 2017
A spiritually-inclined Russian woman and her two young children were rescued from a remote cave nestled in the serene yet treacherous Ramatirtha hills of Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada district, police said Saturday. Police identified the woman as Nina Kutina, 40, alias Mohi, who had journeyed from Russia to India on a business visa and found her way to Gokarna via Goa, drawn deeply by the Hinduism and Indian spiritual traditions. Her children, Preya (6) and Ama (4), had accompanied her into the forest, where they had been living in complete seclusion for nearly two weeks. They had made a humble home inside a natural cave surrounded by dense woods and steep slopes. There, Mohi kept a Rudra idol and spent her days in 'Puja' and meditation. It was during a routine patrol Friday, following a recent landslide that Circle Police Inspector Sridhar and his team spotted clothes hanging outside the cave. The officers made their way through the thick shrubs of Ramatirtha Hill and found Mohi and her two children in the cave. Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M Narayana, speaking to PTI Saturday, said, 'Our patrolling team spotted saree and other clothes hung for drying outside the cave in Ramatirtha Hill. When they went there, they spotted Mohi along with her children Preya and Ama.' He added, 'It was surprising how she and her children survived in the woods and what they ate' According to him, the woman may have reached the cave from Goa. It was also found that her visa had expired in 2017. How long she has been living in India remains unclear, he said. Narayana said, 'We have arranged her stay in an ashram, run by a Sadhvi. We have initiated the process to take her to Bengaluru from Gokarna and begin the deportation process.' With the help of a local NGO, the Russian Embassy was contacted and formalities set in motion to deport her.

Air India crash report: 49 hours of raw data retrieved from black box using US ‘Golden Chassis'
A 'Golden Chassis' sourced from the United States enabled the successful download of 49 hours of flight data from one of the black boxes of Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, claiming 260 lives. Wreckage of Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, one month after the crash in Ahmedabad.(PTI) The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) had retrieved the Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFRs), commonly referred to as black boxes, and transported them to New Delhi on June 24. Typically, when flight recorders are damaged in an accident, investigators rely on a Golden Chassis—an identical recording unit—and compatible download cables sourced from other international agencies to extract data. In this case, the AAIB confirmed on Saturday that the 'Golden Chassis' and the necessary download cables to access data from the EAFR were provided by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The data extraction from the forward EAFR was attempted at the AAIB laboratory in New Delhi on June 24. Investigators found the Crash Protection Module (CPM) intact and in good condition. 'The CPM was mounted on the Golden Chassis, and the raw data was downloaded from the EAFR. The downloaded flight data contained approximately 49 hours of flight data and 6 flights, including the event flight,' AAIB said in its preliminary probe report on the crash. 'The recovered audio was two hours in length and captured the event. Initial Analysis of the recorded audio and flight data has been done,' the report added. The report noted that the aft EAFR had suffered significant damage and could not be accessed using standard procedures. Investigators opened the CPM to inspect the memory card but found the damage to be extensive. The investigation is being led by Sanjay Kumar Singh, who has been appointed as the investigator-in-charge. Jasbir Singh Larhga is serving as the chief investigator. The investigation team also includes Vipin Venu Varakoth, Veeraragavan K, and Vaishnav Vijayakumar. To support the technical and operational aspects of the probe, the AAIB has roped in experienced pilots, engineers, aviation medicine specialists, aviation psychologists, and flight recorder experts as subject matter specialists. 5 dead, one critical as SUV falls into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban
AI image JAMMU: Five people died and one was critically injured when an SUV they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir Friday evening. One person died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag. Another passenger died at a hospital in Srinagar on Saturday, an official said. Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh condoled the deaths and assured all possible assistance to the bereaved families. Ramban deputy commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan announced ex gratia relief of Rs 1 lakh each for the bereaved families and Rs 25,000 for the injured.
