Suvendu urges R.G. Kar victim's parents to join march against Mamata
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mr. Adhikari said they had agreed to participate in the rally.
The rally marks a year since the gruesome crime that brought people on the streets of the city demanding safety for women in public spaces. The parents have in the past 10 months participated in numerous protests seeking justice for their daughter, also referred to as Abhaya.
'In the next one month I will make all efforts to make the movement successful. We will participate without any flags. The only thing which we require is that we should not be humiliated,' Mr. Adhikari said. The BJP leader lauded the difficult fight that the parents had put up against the State government.
'The R.G. Kar Hospital victim had shed blood from her eyes, not tears. The current ruling dispensation offers protection to rapists and torturers, that's why they must go. I will visit the victim's parents soon and seek their blessings for organising this march to Nabanna on her death anniversary, which we will hold without party flags.' the BJP leader has said.
One person was arrested and sentenced to a life term in January 2025 in the case. The victim's parents, however, have not been satisfied with the outcome of the investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and have said that they have been failed by both the State government and the Union government.
The parents of the deceased doctor have approached Calcutta High Court with questions on the investigation by the CBI. Recently, the counsel of the parents urged the court to allow them access to the scene of the crime.

Amid the political sparring over Hindi imposition charge by the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar on Sunday compared the agony of the Pahalgam terror attack, where Hindus were killed in the name of religion, and those getting 'beaten up' in the name of language. He said that these incidents were distressing for him. 'All these incidents cause pain, suffering, and mental distress. In Pahalgam, they shot them after asking about their religion. And here, they beat up the innocent Hindus just because of the language they speak. Such cases create a disturbance,' Shelar said. His remarks come after some incidents of violence and vandalism were reported in the state amid the ongoing Hindi-Marathi controversy. Five workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were arrested in connection with the vandalism at entrepreneur Sushil Kedia's office in Worli, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered against them under Sections 223, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 191(3), and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Kedia, who found himself in the middle of the language row in Maharashtra over his recent remarks against MNS and its chief Raj Thackeray, stated that he made these comments in haste and has now realised his mistake. In another incident, as per a viral video, a group of men allegedly associated with a regional party beat up a shop owner for not speaking in Marathi. The incident occurred in the Mira-Bhayandar area near Mumbai. On Friday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned of strict legal action against those engaging in 'hooliganism' in the name of Marathi. He said that the Mahayuti government will not tolerate violence against commoners. Although the Maharashtra government withdrew its April 16 orders on the implementation of the three-language policy that made Hindi a 'mandatory' third language for school students in Classes 1 to 5 studying in English and Marathi medium schools, the political controversy over the same has brought together long-time estranged Thackeray cousins after nearly two decades. Woman loses 21L in money laundering scam
1 2 3 Pune: Cybercrooks, who posed as officers from TRAI , CBI , and even a Supreme Court Judge, duped a 39-year-old woman from Pimple Saudagar of Rs21 lakh by scaring her by saying her Aadhaar card number was misused for money laundering. The fraud occurred between June 26 and July 4 this year. The crooks told the woman to transfer her money to a bank account for verification purposes and duped her. The woman lodged a complaint with the Sangvi police on Saturday. Inspector Amol Nandekar of the Sangvi police told TOI that the woman, who is well-educated, works with a private company in Pimpri Chinchwad. According to the complainant, on June 26, she received a call from an unknown cellphone number. The caller introduced himself as an officer from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and told her that someone obtained a SIM card by misusing her Aadhaar details. He also told the woman that the person sent obscene photographs and lewd messages to several people from that SIM number. "The man told the woman that the department had several complaints against her and even a case of money laundering was registered against her, which was being investigated by the Mumbai crime branch and CBI," Nandekar said. The officer said that the woman was told to download a telecommunication app and a 'senior officer' from Mumbai police spoke with the woman. Later, the crooks claimed to be the director of CBI and a 'Supreme Court Judge' told the woman that she could be arrested in the money laundering case. They took the details of her balance and told her to transfer the money to a bank account. The crooks promised her to return the money after the verification," the officer said. Nandekar said that the terrified woman transferred Rs21 lakh to a bank account number provided to her. While the woman was waiting to get her money back, she received a call from another unknown person. "The caller told her that earlier she was dealing with fraudulent people and told her to give all details about the case to him. She then became suspicious and approached us," Nandekar said. He said that a case under sections 308 (extortion), 316 (criminal breach of trust), 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the relevant sections of the Information and Technology Act was registered against the unknown persons. "Our investigations are on," he said.
