Newbie set to open 10th UK store at the Lexicon, Bracknell

Sustainable kidswear/lifestyle brand Newbie is having another growth spurt with its latest UK store opening at The Lexicon, Bracknell, Berkshire, on 10 July.
The Swedish Kappahl Group-owned brand promotes 'timeless design and a nostalgic style' in its clothing for babies, children, and women. This includes its latest Summer Fields collection features strawberry prints and gingham checks in soft pink, yellow, and green, alongside ruffles, accessories, and matching outfits.
The Bracknell opening becomes the brand's 10th UK store following recent openings in Bromley in South London, and Windsor in Berkshire, while a store is also set to open in Ealing in West London during November.
Gemma Keenor, Newbie UK country manager, said that "on our opening weekend, Windsor broke sales records for a UK store opening, and we very much hope for the same reception in our Bracknell store.'
Kappahl Group said it has a clear long-term growth strategy for Newbie 'where the focus is on a three-pillar strategy of establishing a presence in key markets'.
This includes 'meeting increased demand and creating inspiring in-store experiences [with] success built on creating an inspiring shopping environment and on its firm focus on sustainability, characterised by quality, timeless design and a nostalgic style'.
Thomas Kusoffsky, VP at Newbie, added: 'The British market is exciting and full of potential, and we are eagerly looking forward to continuing our growth journey here. Our British customers have given Newbie a very warm reception and they clearly appreciate our focus on timeless design, our nostalgic style and our PreLoved concept. The UK is an important market in our global expansion strategy, as we aim to also establish the Newbie brand in more markets across Europe.'

Umbro: NewAge and Bolivox ink Italy distribution deal, first monobrand store planned for 2026

Umbro has ambitious plans for Italy. NewAge, the exclusive licensee for Italy of the long-established British sportswear brand founded in 1924, has signed a deal with Bolivox, a local distribution agency active in fashion, which operates the Wivian's Factory, Voxa Group and Showroom Libenzi companies. The Umbro name is associated with some of the most memorable events in the history of football, and the brand is now expanding into the lifestyle segment, with collections appealing to a cross-sectional audience, blending functionality with streetwear, performance and design. The relaunch plans very much involve Italy where, thanks to the new agreement, the brand intends to boost its commercial position not only in sportswear, but also in the urban lifestyle segment. 'Umbro is currently distributed via approximately 300 Italian multibrand retailers and about 100 concessions in leading chains,' said Pino Magno, CEO of Umbro Italia, speaking to 'The strategies we're implementing aim to expand our retail footprint as extensively as possible, especially in the lifestyle segment, at all levels of the distribution matrix. We're keen to establish a partnership that will actively involve both [NewAge and Bolivox] on all collection development aspects, from creativity and style to production and distribution. Our short-term goals are to target multibrand lifestyle stores, which will make our online positioning easier too, and subsequently to plan the development of monobrand stores, the first of which could open in 2026,' said Magno. 'The work we've done to build this partnership is the result of a common vision and a highly practical approach. We're convinced that Umbro's potential on the Italian market still needs to be fully exploited, and we're happy to contribute with our organisation and experience,' said Mattia Bodini of Wivian's Factory. Umbro currently generates in Italy just under 10% of its total revenue. The brand's main markets are South America, where it has a long-standing presence, and central and northern Europe.

NBA Raptors drop Ujiri as president after 13 seasons

The 54-year-old English-born executive has British, Nigerian, Kenyan and Canadian citizenship. He was named the NBA's Executive of the Year in 2013 while with Denver, the only non-US winner of the award. "During his 13 seasons with the Raptors, Masai has helped transform the organization on the court and has been an inspirational leader off it," MLSE President and chief executive officer Keith Pelley said. "He brought an NBA championship to Toronto and urged us to believe in this city and ourselves. We are grateful for all he has done and wish him and his family the very best." The Raptors, however, went 30-52 this past season, missing the NBA playoffs for the third year in a row and fourth time in five seasons. They haven't won a playoff series since getting past Brooklyn in the 2020 opening round. "As we plan for the franchise's future, and its return to the NBA playoffs, a search for the successor as president of the Raptors, led by CAA Executive Search, will begin immediately." The move came a day after the NBA Draft and just ahead of next week's start of NBA free agency. The Raptors announced they would keep key front office personnel, including general manager Bobby Webster, who received a contract extension, the terms of which were not revealed. "We are confident that the Raptors organization, under the guidance of Bobby and his team, is in a great place," Pelley said. "They have a plan in place for next season and beyond as the team continues its rebuild, and we have confidence in their ability to execute and ultimately, to excel. "We feel the team is in a strong, stable place, and we believe the addition of a new president will continue to move the Raptors forward, towards our next NBA championship." Ujiri played his entire on-court career in Europe, including a stint with England's Derby Rams, before joining the Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets as a scout. He was hired by the Raptors as global scouting director and in 2008 became Toronto's assistant general manager. He returned to Denver in 2010 as executive vice president and general manager, the first African general manager in major American sports. The Nuggets won a club-record 57 games in 2012-13, with Ujiri being named the league's top executive, and Ujiri signed with the Raptors as executive vice president and general manager in May 2013.

Trafford Centre becomes first BFC sponsor in the North West

Key Manchester's mall Trafford Centre has become the British Fashion Council 's (BFC) first North West of England patron. With a series of activations kicking off this autumn/winter (there are no details of these just yet), Trafford Centre will 'become part of a community committed to future-proofing the fashion industry' while 'supporting the UK's design talent of the future'. Simon Layton, centre director at Trafford Centre, said: '[Our] patronage of the British Fashion Council is an incredibly exciting relationship for us, and we are thrilled to be joining a community that advocates for fashion industry excellence. We look forward to sharing more on the activations we are currently planning for later this year.' Antonia Wigan, Commercial Director for BFC, added: 'Trafford Centre's… commitment reflects the strength, creativity, and commercial opportunity that exists within the region. As one of the UK's most iconic retail destinations, Trafford Centre offers a powerful platform to support and spotlight British fashion talent and businesses. This partnership plays a vital role in extending the BFC's reach, ensuring our work resonates nationally'. The shopping centre joins 69 existing BFC patrons including major retailers John Lewis, Selfridges, and M&S and it's interesting that with so much designer fashion being London-focused, the Trafford Centre link reflects the BFC looking beyond the capital to spread its message country-wide.
