Assam: Two arrested for pro-Pak stand on social media
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Dilbar Hussain and Hafizur Rahman.
Hussain was taken into custody in the Sonitpur district, while Rahman was arrested in the Kamrup district.
According to CM Sarma, a total of 81 anti-nationals are now behind bars for sympathising with Pakistan.
He said, "Our systems are constantly tracking anti-national posts on social media and taking action."
Among the 81 arrested people, the most prominent is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam.
He was the first person to be arrested in the state for the "pro-Pakistan" stand.
Aminul Islam, an AIUDF MLA from Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was arrested on May 1 on sedition charges following his provocative statement regarding the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
In a video clip circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader is heard claiming that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of a "government conspiracy".
Aminul Islam said, "Six years ago in Pulwama, when the RDX blast happened and 42 soldiers died, I said on that day that the Pulwama blast happened at the behest of a conspiracy of the Central government, and it was a conspiracy to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls."
He added that what happened in Pahalgam is that the "BJP has been peddling that the terrorists asked about religion and opened fire only on Hindus, and they let go of Muslims".
"But the victims said that the terrorists opened fire without asking about anybody's name, and I doubt that the nexus which was involved in the Pulwama attack in which RDX was used, is behind the Pahalgam incident," he said.
"If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government does not conduct a fair investigation into the incident and tries to bring a division between Hindus and Muslims, I would believe that this incident happened because of a conspiracy," Aminul Islam said.
However, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from his party legislator's comments.
Ajmal said, "AIUDF stands with the government. The terrorists have no religion, and those who spread terrorism are against Islam."

US pauses visa processing at embassy in Niger, State Dept says
WASHINGTON, July 26 (Reuters) - The United States is pausing all routine visa services at U.S. embassy in Nigerien capital Niamey until further notice, according to a State Department spokesperson and an internal State Department cable seen by Reuters on Saturday. The July 25-dated cable did not provide a reason for the move but a State Department spokesperson said the pause, which would cover all immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories, was in place until Washington addressed "concerns with the Government of Niger." The spokesperson did not provide further details on the reason, but said that most diplomatic and official visas were excepted from the pause. "The Trump Administration is focused on protecting our nation and our citizens by upholding the highest standards of national security and public safety through our visa process," the Department spokesperson said. The diplomatic cable also instructed consular officers in other visa processing posts to apply "heightened scrutiny" when assessing non-immigrant visa applications for Nigerien nationals, whose overstay rates it said were 8 percent for visitor visas and 27 percent for student and exchange visas. Consular managers should make an effort to reduce the number of overstays by nonimmigrant visa holders in the United States, the cable said and added: "In this regard, particular vigilance is needed in adjudicating Nigerien NIV applicants." Trump recalls India-Pakistan conflict as he speaks to leaders of Thailand and Cambodia
U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday (July 26, 2025) said he spoke to the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand amid escalating tensions between the two neighbours, as he recalled, yet again, the conflict between India and Pakistan that was 'brought to a successful halt.' On Saturday, in a post on social media, Mr. Trump said he had spoken with Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet 'relative to stopping the War with Thailand.' Mr. Trump said he also spoke with Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai to 'likewise request a Ceasefire, and END to the War, which is currently raging.' Mr. Trump described the conversation with Wechayachai as 'very good' and said, 'Thailand, like Cambodia, wants to have an immediate ceasefire, and peace.' 'After speaking to both Parties, Ceasefire, Peace, and Prosperity seems to be a natural. We will soon see!' Thailand and Cambodia have for the third consecutive day witnessed clashes at the border that left over 30 dead and more than 1,50,000 displaced. 'I am trying to simplify a complex situation! Many people are being killed in this war, but it very much reminds me of the conflict between Pakistan and India, which was brought to a successful halt,' Mr. Trump said. Shabbir Ali asks BRS to clarify its stand on Muslim inclusion in 42% BC quota
Advisor to Telangana Government and senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Saturday demanded that leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) clarify their stand on the inclusion of Muslims under the proposed 42% BC quota in Telangana. Addressing a condolence meeting organised by the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation, he questioned whether BRS leaders, including former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and former Ministers K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, are supporting the BJP's demand to remove BC-E Muslims from the OBC category or backing the Congress party's efforts to enhance the BC quota. The silence of BRS leaders on BJP's stand raises suspicions that they were supporting the BJP's stance over removal of Muslims from OBCs, he said. Mr Shabbir Ali, who attended the event to pay tributes to senior Urdu journalists Syed Shaik Naseeruddin and Syed Khader Mohiuddin Quadri (Waheed Quadri), also extended immediate financial assistance to their family members. He also called for proper documentation of the contributions and legacy of Urdu journalists, suggesting that their work be compiled into short books to preserve their memory and inspire future generations.
