AIUDF MLAs protest eviction in Dhubri
Guwahati: A delegation of eight MLAs from All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which went to meet the families recently evicted in Dhubri district, was detained by police after they staged a protest blocking NH-17. Over 800 families were illegally occupying around 3,500 bighas of govt land in the Chapar revenue circle in Bilasipara co-district in lower Assam's Dhubri district. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that around 90% of the families vacated the land voluntarily, and the remaining 10% were evicted by the authorities after they tried to resist the eviction drive. The protest by the AIUDF MLAs and their party workers was staged in the Chapar revenue circle, under which Charuabakra, Santoshpur, and Chirakuti villages fall, demanding proper rehabilitation and sufficient compensation for the evicted families. AIUDF leaders led a large group of demonstrators onto the highway, bringing traffic to a standstill and triggering immediate police intervention. Organising general secretary of the party and Mankachar MLA, Aminul Islam, condemned the police's actions against the protesters, stating, "The police want to silence AIUDF leaders and workers, but our party will always stand by the people and speak out against injustice." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 반지 그 이상의 가치를 월 2만 원으로 만나보세요 굿네이버스 더 알아보기 Undo He said, "We stood today where thousands once lived; now turned homeless by the govt's brutal and unconstitutional eviction at Chapar in Dhubri district. With pain in their eyes and courage in their hearts, they (the evicted people) are fighting for justice, and we stand with them. This injustice will not be forgotten." Islam added that nine years of BJP rule in the state have trampled Articles 14 and 21 of the Indian Constitution, leaving over 11,000 families homeless and seeing seven individuals being shot for speaking out. "This isn't development—it's sadistic oppression. We demand compensation, rehabilitation NOW!" he added. Talking about the recent rehabilitation of a few families in upper Assam's Lakhimpur district, Islam said AIUDF is pleased that the govt has provided rehabilitation for the evicted families of Lakhimpur. "However, our question to the govt is, why has no arrangement been made yet to rehabilitate the minority people evicted from Garukhuti, Phuhuratoli, and Hasila Beel?" he added. However, Sarma said on Wednesday that the industrialisation in the area, if successfully done, would benefit the people of the entire region in the district.

2 More Pak Sympathisers Arrested In Assam, Total Arrests Reach 92
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that two persons have been arrested in the state for expressing their 'pro-Pakistan' stand on social media. The arrests happened from Nagaon and Lakhimpur districts in the state. The persons have been identified as Sabikul Islam and Dulal Bora. Islam was taken into custody from the Lakhimpur district while Bora was arrested by Nagaon police. According to CM Sarma, a total of 92 anti-nationals are now lodged in jail for sympathising with Pakistan. He said, "Our systems are constantly tracking anti-national posts on social media and taking action." Among the 92 arrested people, the most prominent is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam. He was the first person to be arrested in the state for the "pro-Pakistan" stand. Aminul Islam, an AIUDF MLA from Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was arrested on May 1 on sedition charges following his provocative statement regarding the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In a video clip circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader is heard claiming that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of a "government conspiracy". Aminul Islam said, "Six years ago in Pulwama, when the RDX blast happened and 42 soldiers died, I said on that day that the Pulwama blast happened at the behest of a conspiracy of the Central government, and it was a conspiracy to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls." He added that what happened in Pahalgam is that the "BJP has been peddling that the terrorists asked about religion and opened fire only on Hindus, and they let go of Muslims". "But the victims said that the terrorists opened fire without asking about anybody's name, and I doubt that the nexus which was involved in the Pulwama attack in which RDX was used, is behind the Pahalgam incident," he said. "If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government does not conduct a fair investigation into the incident and tries to bring a division between Hindus and Muslims, I would believe that this incident happened because of a conspiracy," he added. However, the AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from his party legislator's comments. Ajmal said, "AIUDF stands with the government. The terrorists have no religion, and those who spread terrorism are against Islam."

This came after Opposition All India United Democratic Front MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for claiming that the Pahalgam attack and the 2019 Pulwama attack may have been the results of conspiracies by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. Islam got bail in the sedition case on May 14, but was detained again under the National Security Act on the same day, PTI reported. The Act allows for long periods of detention without trial and suspends important rights of the accused person, including the right to legal representation and immediate information about the cause of the arrest.

"Indian Muslims harassed in name of identifying foreigners:" AIUDF submits memorandum to Assam Guv
Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 28 (ANI): The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya expressing their deep concern about identifying illegal immigrants and alleged that Indian Muslims are being harassed in the name of identifying foreigners. 'We express our deep concern and strong protest against the continued harassment of Indian Muslims in Assam under the pretext of identifying and apprehending so-called illegal foreigners. In recent weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of people, especially from the Muslim Community, who have been picked up, interrogated and even arrested on mere suspicion of being illegal immigrants. The actions have often been taken without credible evidence, legal notice, or proper verification of documents. While some of these individuals have later been released after being found to be genuine Indian citizens,' said the memorandum submitted by AIUDF. A delegation of AIUDF, led by its MLAs Rafiqul Islam and Aminul Islam, on Wednesday met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhawan in Guwahati and submitted the memorandum. The AIUDF urged the Assam Governor to intervene in this matter and to take necessary steps to - direct concerned authorities to exercise greater caution and legal diligence in identifying suspected foreigners, ensure that no Indian citizen is wrongfully detained or subjected to intimidation, investigate and hold accountable those responsible for wrongful arrests or misuse of power, establish a transparent and humane procedure with adequate legal aid for verifying citizenship claims, promote awareness among officials and the public to avoid communal profiling and ensure that enforcement measures are free of bias or prejudice. The AIUDF said in its memorandum that, most of the people of Muslim community living under poverty have to survive with daily wages as labourers, have hardly scope of defending themselves from such atrocities and facing such trauma, indignity and damage to reputation caused to them and their families cannot be undone. 'Such repeated incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among large sections of our population, particularly among poor and marginalised Muslims, many of whom lack the resources or literacy to defend themselves against arbitrary action. It is alarming that even individuals possessing valid documentation such as voter ID cards, Aadhaar and land records are being subjected to doubt and harassment. We like to state clearly and unequivocally that the AIUDF does not support illegal immigration. We believe in the sovereignty of the nation and the sanctity of its borders. However, our objection lies in the misuse of authority and targeting of Indian citizens in the name of identifying foreigners. Harassment, arbitrary detention and wrongful accusations not only violate the principles of justice and fairness but also undermine the trust between the people and the administration,' AIUDF said in the memorandum.
