BMW M2 Competition & Porsche 911 GT3 RS Meet Shocking End
The Nürburgring has earned its nickname as the Green Hell once again after an explosive crash between a BMW M2 Competition and a 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS collided on a high-speed section of the circuit, completely destroying both German sports coupes. The videos uploaded to social media show the moment of impact from the Porsche driver's perspective and from a surveillance camera alongside the track, revealing that a misunderstanding between the two drivers led to both of them jockeying for the same bit of tarmac at the same time, and the internet is divided over which driver should take the bulk of the blame.
How The Fiery Crash Happened
The video from the GT3 RS driver's perspective shows that the Porsche driver was approaching the Bimmer at high speed after exiting a right-hand turn. As the circuit curved to the left, the slower-moving M2 moved over to the right side of the track. It seems that the fast-approaching Porsche driver had assumed this was an invitation to overtake, as passing on the Nordschleife during these Touristfahrten sessions (when the circuit turns into a tolled public road) should always be done on the left unless it cannot be avoided. Normally, the slower car indicates to the right and moves over, thereby informing the following driver that the slower car is aware of their presence and won't cut across the track, but in this case, the M2 driver didn't activate their turn signal.
This suggests that the M2's movement to the right side of the track was to prepare the car for the approaching left-hand bend, not to yield to the Porsche. Thus, both cars arrived at the same apex with the Porsche marginally ahead, the Bimmer driver turned into the right rear of the 911, effectively performing a PIT maneuver on the 911. This caused the Porsche to deviate right, and as it careened toward the barriers, it took the Bimmer with it. On impact, a fiery explosion occurred, and the Porsche was sent flying through the air. The entire front end was ripped off, and a suspension arm (still attached to the brake disc and caliper) landed nearly a hundred feet away. Happily, both drivers survived, but things could have been much worse.
Our Take
Perhaps the M2 driver ought to have been aware of the approaching GT3 RS; slower cars are obliged to move over for quicker traffic on the Nordschleife, but as discussed above, there is a correct way to do this: in conjunction with a turn signal activation. It should also be noted that slower traffic should move over when it is safe to do so, not the very instant they see another car in their rearview mirror. With the preceding turns being rather technical, it seems a little unreasonable for the M2 driver to be prepared for a move up the inside when the Porsche appeared to have only just closed the gap to its rear bumper.

On the other hand, the Porsche driver might argue that the speed with which they were approaching should have been obvious to the BMW driver, and the way in which the M2 abruptly moved to the right side of the track might have looked like an invitation to pass. We don't have more video evidence of the preceding miles, but based on the crash itself, we're inclined to side with the Bimmer driver on this one. Sure, both drivers could have done something differently, but the M2 driver had the right to that piece of asphalt, and the Porsche driver seemed a little overeager to prove that the GT3 RS was quicker. Some commenters have proclaimed that this sort of incident is the result of amateurs trying to replicate YouTube personality Misha Charoudin's style of Nürburgring video, but his fans will argue that Charoudin has always campaigned for greater safety and has tried to discourage reckless behavior on the Nürburgring. It costs £150k but it might be the most capable 4x4 you can buy off the peg

The Ineos Grenadier was already one of the most versatile and off-road focused cars on sale, but it just got even more capable thanks to off-road experts at Letech. The German firm famous for modifying the Mercedes G-Class has just added portal axles and other upgrades to both the Ineos Grenadier and the Quartermaster pick-up. Advertisement - Article continues below Orders for the Ineos Grendaier Trialmaster X Letech have opened in Europe with the Grenadier costing 170,000 euros (roughly £150,000) and the Quartermaster costing 1,000 euros more - excluding VAT. That marks a steep increase over the regular Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster, which both kick off at £62,495 here in the UK. There's a good reason though because Letech has added all the necessary modifications you need to take the Ineos almost anywhere. The most significant change is indeed those portal axles - something we've seen previously on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4². Portal axles essentially elevate the ride height via gears in the wheel hub - Mercedes saw a gain of 110mm to the G-Class' ground clearance by employing the tech in the G 63 4x4². The Ineos gets a giant increase of 186mm to give a total of 450mm and it's not just ground clearance where it impresses because wading depth is up from 800mm to 1,050mm as well. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Powering both vehicles are the same BMW-derived straight-six turbocharged petrol and diesel engines - meaning that the 3,500kg towing capacity is retained. The Station Wagon (the SUV style model) has a payload capacity of 540kg while the Quartermaster pick-up comes with a 642kg capacity. Letech's Grenadier and Quartermaster Trialmaster are also fitted with a new heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension layout and 37-inch Mud Terrain off-road tyres from BFGoodrich. The 18-inch forged alloy wheels are also new, while Letech has added a high performance braking system, extended wheel arches, a front-mounted winch and a rear ladder attachment. There's also a jerry can, which might be just as well because we struggled to get over 20mpg in the Quartermaster recently. Making sure you can see where you're going off-road, Letech has added six old-school roof lights, plus there's a roof rack a spare wheel carrier and exclusive 'Trialmaster x Letech' Door Sill Scuff Plates and A-pillar badging to ensure no one mistakes it for a regular Ineos. The standard Ineos' five-year/unlimited mileage factory warranty is retained with Letech's additions being covered by a two-year warranty. Ineos Grenadier gets portal axles for £147k

Ineos will sell the extreme portal-axled version of the Grenadier 4x4 shown at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, with prices starting at €170,000 (£147,000). Called the Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech, it can be had as both an SUV and a pick-up, with a choice of BMW-supplied 3.0-litre straight sixes powered by petrol or diesel. Built by German firm Letech, it replaces the regular Grenadier's coil suspension with a new portal-axle design with five reinforced links at its front and rear ends, and offset wheel hubs. Combined with a set of 18in Hutchinson Industries beadlock wheels and 37in BFGoodrich tyres, this raises the Grenadier's ground clearance by 186mm to 450mm and its wading depth rises to 1050mm. The new axles are also said to provide greater wheel articulation and better weight distribution, further improving the 4x4's off-road capabilities. Advertisement Completing the package are flared wheel arches, a ladder with a jerry can mount, spotlights, a spare wheel carrier and a front winch capable of lugging 4.5 tonnes. The conversion will be offered first in European Union and European Economic Area (EEA) markets. Ineos has yet to confirm whether it will be launched in the UK, saying only that a wider roll-out is 'subject to future announcements'. It added that it has received more than 1000 expressions of interest from customers, such as from rescue services. The decision to offer the portal-axle conversion officially confirms Autocar's previous report that it was being considered alongside a range of other special editions, in a bid to maximise the brand's revenues from relatively few sales.

Iconic car brand ‘axes plans for new EV & slashes plans on electric car spending' as firm ‘shifts focus'

AN ICONIC car brand has axed plans for a new EV and slashed its electric car spending as it "shifts focus". It comes as a struggling motor industry is second guessing its roadmap toward full electrification. 2 2 Honda has pulled the plug on developing some future models including cancelling plans for a large electric SUV. It was due to launch in 2027 but according to new reports, development for the model has now been halted. In addition, the brand has slashed how much it plans to spend on EVs through 2030. Honda will cut EV-related funding from $68.6 billion to $48 billion. The company is reportedly shifting its focus toward building more hybrids which are already in development for the US. But plans remain to launch their flagship electric sedan and midsize SUV EVs which were showcased earlier this year. Those models are scheduled to arrive next year. Honda also has plans to launch seven EVs by 2030 but it's not yet clear how many of those are still in development. The scale back comes as motor companies have come to realise their EV plans don't align with consumer demand in the last six to nine months. Some have starting closing the purse strings on EV investments as a result. Moment iconic car maker enters space race after launching reusable rocket Lotus cancelled its proposal to go fully electric in November 2024, instead focusing on hybrids like Honda with many other companies heading in the same direction. Porsche also announced it would shift to offering more hybrid options after admitting it would not meet its initial goal of 80% fully electric sales by 2030. Nissan scrapped plans for a small electric SUV in January and Mini said it wouldn't be abandoning petrol engines anytime soon. Even Volvo has admitted defeat in achieving its EV plans. Elsewhere, motor companies are also trying to keep the combustion engine alive. BMW insist the combustion engine is its foundation while Lamborghini is hopeful synthetic fuels will take off. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz is looking to extend the life of its engines while Audi has announced it will build petrol engines for another 10 years. News of Honda's EV scale back comes as the company is set to bring back one of its much-loved electric vehicles to rival Hyundai and the Fiat 500. Honda's Super EV concept is due to appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The"futuristic successor" to the Honda E is set to include a new EV platform, batteries and motor, giving the beloved car a significant upgrade. The FL5-generation Honda Civic Type R is being culled in the UK and Europe from 2026 - but is set to go out with a bang.
