Noida issues a heatwave advisory

Time of India20-05-2025

Noida: With temperatures in NCR continuing to climb, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Noida has issued a public advisory urging residents to take strict precautions against the ongoing heatwave and hot winds, or loo.
"Awareness programmes are being carried out in schools and factories to ensure community preparedness," said district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma. "Citizens are advised to stay indoors between 12pm and 3pm, wear light cotton clothing, keep hydrated, and use home remedies like ORS, lemon water, and raw mango drinks to prevent dehydration."
It cautions against consumption of alcohol, tea, and coffee, which may worsen dehydration.
It also urges residents to carry water, and use umbrellas, caps, or sunglasses when stepping outdoors. Additionally, DDMA emphasised the importance of caring for animals, advising residents to keep pets in shaded areas with access to clean drinking water.
Safety measures include avoiding stale or high-protein food, not staying on the top floors of buildings during peak heat hours and not leaving children or pets in parked vehicles.
The public has also been encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates and seek immediate medical help if any symptoms of heatstroke — such as dizziness, nausea, or high fever appear.
The advisory was issued under the direction of DM Manish Kumar Verma, and supervision of ADM (Finance & Revenue) Atul Kumar.
Meanwhile, a health department team on Tuesday conducted inspections across hospitals, Community Health Centers (CHCs), and Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in the city to ensure heatwave preparedness. According to the CMO, all facilities were found ready to handle heat-related emergencies.

Uttarkashi SP inspects landslide zones on Yamunotri NH, reviews safety measures amid heavy rains

Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], June 30 (ANI): Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarita Dobhal on Monday inspected the landslide-affected areas along the Yamunotri National Highway and reviewed the safety measures in place to manage the situation. 'SP Uttarkashi Sarita Dobhal inspected various landslide zones on the Yamunotri National Highway and reviewed and assessed the safety management today, ' posted Uttarkashi Police, Uttarakhand on X. Earlier in the day, the Yamunotri National Highway was blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri due to parts of the road being washed out, according to officials. In a post on X, Uttarkashi Police wrote, 'The Yamunotri National Highway is blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri due to some parts of the highway being washed out. It may take time to restore the route.' The police further stated that the highway between Brahmkal and Mahargaon was also blocked due to debris. According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the average rainfall recorded in Tehri Garhwal on Sunday was 79.2 mm. Heavy rain disrupted the electricity supply in Agrakhaal, Chamba, Jakhindhar, and Dughamandar areas. The water supply was also affected in the Chamba block. Meanwhile, officials stated that the 24-hour suspension of the Char Dham Yatra has been lifted. The ban was imposed following a heavy rain alert. The Yatra was suspended after a cloudburst near Barkot triggered a massive landslide, killing two workers and leaving seven others missing. Earlier, the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district, which had been damaged by a landslide, was repaired. However, search operations for the missing individuals are still underway. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed to ANI that 'repairs have been completed on the washout before Silai Band, and that efforts are ongoing to restore other damaged portions of the road.' 'The washout that happened due to a cloud burst before Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road of the district has been repaired and the road has been made smooth, while the work of making the other washout smooth is going on,' Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said. COVID-19 exposed harm of consumption-driven culture to humans, animals, environment: President Murmu

LUCKNOW: Emphasising that the COVID-19 pandemic had exposed the harmful impact of a consumption-driven culture on humans, animals, and the environment, President Droupadi Murmu stressed the need to organize Animal Health Melas to promote grassroots-level animal care and suggested holding veterinary camps in villages. While addressing the 11th Convocation of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly on Monday, the President expressed concern over the decreasing visibility of domestic animals in rural areas and emphasised the need to protect and promote livestock wealth as a national responsibility. She said such activities could play a vital role in strengthening public health. 'These animals have historically supported agriculture. While we have embraced technology, essential soil partners like earthworms are vanishing, leading to barren lands. Restoring soil fertility requires collective efforts from farmers, scientists, veterinarians, and citizens,' she said. The President urged the graduating veterinary doctors to let compassion and empathy guide their work as doctors and researchers, especially in their service to voiceless animals. During the ceremony, the President conferred degrees and medals to meritorious students. Reflecting on the deep bond between humans and animals, she said the relationship was much like that of a family. 'While we now live in a modern, tech-driven world, in earlier times, animals were our tools and companions. Farmers could not progress without them. Animals were once considered our wealth, life without them was unimaginable,' she said, adding that the Indian ethos perceived the presence of the divine in all living beings. She stated that IVRI, established in 1889, has achieved numerous milestones in its 135-year journey and lauded the research contributions of scientists, along with the patents, designs, and copyrights held by the institute. The President emphasised that the adage 'Prevention is better than cure' applies equally to animal health. Vaccination, she said, plays a vital role in disease prevention, and it is a matter of pride that IVRI has developed several vaccines under the National Animal Disease Control Programme.
