Operation Kalanemi: 23 fake babas arrested in Uttarakhand
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, the arrested individuals were allegedly preying on people's religious sentiments and were involved in duping unsuspecting victims.
While speaking to ANI, the SSP said, "Under this campaign, the police took action in various police station areas on Saturday and arrested 23 fake babas roaming around in the guise of saints and sadhus. Among the arrested fake babas, 10 persons are residents of other states."
The Chief Minister has instructed to identify all such persons and take strict action against them. As part of the initiative, Dehradun Police on Saturday arrested 23 individuals posing as sadhus in different areas of the district.
Singh told ANI, "In line with the instructions, all the station in-charges have been instructed to identify such persons in their respective police station areas, who disguise themselves as saints and mislead people, especially women and youth, and lure them to solve their personal or domestic problems and commit fraud with them, and take strict action against them."
Meanwhile, Hindu religious groups welcome Uttarakhand Govt's 'Op Kalanemi' targeting fake seers.
'Operation Kalanemi' is a campaign against anti-social elements who are hurting religious sentiments and duping people under the pretext of 'Sanatan Dharma' by posing as seers, and have called for strict action against such fake people.
President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, welcomed this decision and asserted that strict action should be taken against the people who cheat Kanwariyas.
Speaking to ANI about this initiative, Puri said, "Kanwar is being conducted in Haridwar and we welcome this decision by the Chief Minister and thank him as well... The fake saints ask for money from and cheat Kanwariya and abuse those who refuse to give money; these people should be subjected to strict action... Our Chief Minister's vision is a safe Uttarakhand, and doing justice to all the Kanwariya and all of us are with him."
The president of Akhand Parshuram Akhada stated that the Aadhar cards of such imposters should be verified, and action must be taken against such people.
"We welcome this campaign... There are some fake seers who bring disgrace to our respected saints, the Aadhar card of such imposters should be checked... While India is about to become Vishwaguru, only original saints must be there... There are some seers (fake ones) who have committed a crime, and action must be taken on such people..." he said.
State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt said that there are people who try to disturb the society and strict action should be taken against them.
"Some criminal elements try to ruin social environment. Everyone must follow the laws made by the government... There are numerous people who try to disturb society, and they will be subjected to strict action..." Bhatt said.

MDMA worth over Rs 10 crore seized near Nepal border in Uttarakhand; woman arrested
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 12 (ANI): In a major breakthrough under the 'Drugs Free Devbhoomi Mission,' the Uttarakhand Police on Saturday seized synthetic drugs worth over Rs 10.23 crore in the international market. Champawat Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Ganpati revealed that 5.688 kg of MDMA (methamphetamine) was recovered during a checking drive at Gadhigoth Bridge in Pampapur (Tanakpur). A 22-year-old woman, identified as Isha, wife of Rahul Kumar and a resident of Pampapur in Champawat district, was arrested after she was seen acting suspiciously and attempting to flee towards a canal with a black backpack. The search, conducted in the presence of Tanakpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP) Vandana Verma, led to the recovery of the high-value synthetic drug. Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the police team involved in the successful operation. The seizure was made during a joint operation by Champawat District Police, Pithoragarh Police, and the Special Task Force (STF) near the Nepal border. Delhi: Two minors held for firing at woman's house over extortion demand in Mukundpur
New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): Two minors were apprehended in connection with a firing incident in Delhi's Mukundpur area on Thursday, after they allegedly demanded extortion money from a local woman and opened fire when she refused to pay, an official said on Friday. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at Bhalswa Dairy police station around 10:40 PM on July 10 regarding gunshots fired in the Mukundpur locality. 'On 10 July at around 10:40 PM, a PCR call was received at PS Bhalswa Dairy about reporting a firing incident in the Mukundpur area, on the statement of Heera Devi (45) resident of Mukundpur in which complainant alleged that two minors came to her house and demanded extortion money of Rs 30,000/- per month and when she refused to pay the extortion one of them fired two round towards her house and one of the bullet hit her daughter Nisha (18) on her upper left arm,' Police said in a statement. A search operation was launched, and both assailants, aged 17 and 15, were traced to DDA Flats, JJ Colony, Bhalswa Dairy with the help of secret information, local intelligence, and technical surveillance. A country-made pistol and one live 7.65 mm cartridge were recovered at the instance of one of the minors, the official said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 17-year-old accused was previously involved in murder and robbery cases. During interrogation, he confessed that he, along with two others, Vivek alias Tilla and Shivchandan alias Pandit, had committed the murder of Amit alias Langda in September 2024. All three were arrested in connection with that case. The accused further disclosed that Vivek alias Tilla had received a phone call from Shivchandan alias Pandit, who is currently lodged in jail. Pandit allegedly instructed Tilla to collect a monthly extortion of Rs 30,000 from Heera Devi and to open fire if she refused. Tilla then directed the 17-year-old to execute the plan, identifying him as a CCL (Child in Conflict with Law). The weapon of offence, a country-made pistol, along with one live 7.65 mm cartridge, was recovered at the instance of the Child in Conflict with Law (CCL). Both the CCLs have been apprehended as per law, and Sections 308(4) & 61(2) BNS have also been added to the case. Further investigation is going on. (ANI)
