'What a journey': Arsenal fans sent emotional message as summer exit confirmed
Kieran Tierney has bid an emotional farewell to Arsenal after rejoining Celtic.
The Scottish left-back is departing north London this summer after six years following the expiration of his contract, one of 20 players released by the Gunners across their men's, women's and youth teams.

Tierney had long since been linked with a return to Celtic, where he previously spent 14 years, graduated from the academy and made 170 senior appearances before leaving for Arsenal in a £25million deal in 2019, winning eight domestic trophies in total.
That homecoming has now been officially announced, with the defender penning a five-year contract to head back to Glasgow and rejoin a dominant Brendan Rodgers side who almost won another domestic treble this season, only to be dramatically pipped to Scottish Cup glory by Aberdeen in extra time.
Tierney has now written a heartfelt goodbye to Arsenal after that move was confirmed, writing on social media: 'Full of emotions these last few weeks! To be part of this special club for 6 years has meant so much to me and I'm grateful for every single second of it.
'To every member of staff and team mate I've had the pleasure of working with, thank you for everything you've done for me. I'm so lucky to have worked with many amazing people who I learned so much from and helped me every day.

'To the fans, what a journey these last 6 years have been. All I can really say is thank you for the support and love you've given me through the good and the bad times.
'I appreciated everything and never took any of it for granted. It's been fun. North London forever.'
Tierney was initially a mainstay at left-back after joining Arsenal, forming a key part of the side that lifted the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta in 2019/20, their last major trophy, as well as winning two Community Shields as he made 144 total appearances across all competitions.
However, he also struggled with injury and ended up slipping down the defensive pecking order under Arteta, who replaced him with Oleksandr Zinchenko as his new first-choice left-back in the summer of 2022.
Tierney, who earned his 50th international cap for Scotland last week, spent time out on loan in Spain with Real Sociedad last season, returning to Arsenal and being limited to just 20 outings this term, only four of which were starts.

Gill and Jadeja broken by England after 203-run stand at Edgbaston
BIRMINGHAM, England — India cruised to lunch on 419-6 as Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja collected easy runs against England on the second morning of the second test at Edgbaston on Thursday. The captain and Jadeja ate up ideal batting conditions — a flat pitch under sunny skies — in a partnership of 203 runs. Gill moved from 114 overnight to 168, his maiden 150-plus score. Jadeja advanced from 41 to 89 when he tried to fend off a Josh Tongue short ball that reared up. Jadeja gloved it to the wicketkeeper about 10 minutes before lunch. That wicket finally exposed India's wobbly tail and bowling allrounder Washington Sundar was with Gill on 1 at lunch. India scored 109 runs in the session in a slow 25 overs. Until Tongue's breakthrough, England didn't look like taking a wicket. The only disturbance to the serenity was very early when England complained to the umpires about Jadeja running on the pitch. Jadeja's reply was to cut and drive England captain Ben Stokes for consecutive boundaries. He reached his 50 in 80 balls, his ninth 50-plus score against England. Gill flicked, drove, pulled and punched Brydon Carse for fours, and reverse swept spinner Shoaib Bashir for another. Closer to lunch, both batters hit sixes off Bashir in the same over; Jadeja over long-on to bring up India's 400 total, and Gill a sweep. They were smiling and chuckling in the middle. But the smiles were gone moments later when Jadeja was out after a 173-ball knock including 10 boundaries and a six. Gill has 18 boundaries and the six. ___ AP cricket:

Diogo Jota: 'exceptional player, exceptional boy'
Diogo Jota was quickly hailed by the Liverpool support as "better than (Luis) Figo" and the shocking death of the Portuguese international on Thursday has left the English champions in mourning. The 28-year-old died alongside his younger brother Andre after their vehicle veered off a motorway in northern Spain before bursting into flames. Advertisement A product of the Pacos de Ferreira academy on the outskirts of his native Porto, Jota made his name and played the majority of his professional career in the Premier League. His precocious talent caught the eye of Atletico Madrid who snapped him up in 2016 but he never played a game for the Spanish giants. Instead, after a loan spell at Porto, Jota was among the first wave of Portuguese talent parachuted into England at then second-tier Wolves due to the club's connections with super-agent Jorge Mendes. Jota's goals helped fire Wolves from the Championship to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in just three seasons. Advertisement That caught the eye of Liverpool, who splashed out a £45 million ($62 million) transfer fee for the versatile forward even in the midst of the economic meltdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. "Exceptional player, exceptional boy," said former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during Jota's early days at Anfield. "He has everything that a Liverpool player in this squad needs." Jota took little time to deliver some return on Liverpool's investment, becoming the first player in the club's history to score in his first four home games. Once supporters were back in the stands after the pandemic, Jota's popularity was reflected in a chant proclaiming him to be better than Portugal legend Figo, who played for Real Madrid and Barcelona during his decorated career. Advertisement He was a key part of the side that won the League Cup and FA Cup in 2021/22, narrowly missing out on the Premier League and Champions League for what would have been an unprecedented quadruple. - 'Extraordinary person' - In total, Jota struck 65 times in 182 appearances for the Reds, the last of which won the Merseyside derby against Everton in April to edge Liverpool ever closer to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title. But not for the first time in Liverpool's rich history, tragedy has struck to overshadow triumph. Jota's last public act as a player on Merseyside was taking part in the trophy parade through the city, which will be remembered for a car ploughing into the crowds, injuring 109 people. Advertisement Fans began laying shirts, scarves and flowers in tribute at Anfield, where there is a permanent memorial to the 97 fans killed in the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 which still leaves a scar on the club. Cristiano Ronaldo was among those to express his disbelief that his international team-mate has passed. "It makes no sense," the five-time Ballon d'Or winner posted on social media. "Rest in Peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you." Ronaldo and Jota, who won 49 caps for his country, had been part of the Portugal team that won the Nations League last month. Jota then wed his long-time partner and mother of his three children, Rute Cardoso, less than two weeks ago. Advertisement "Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all team-mates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in his community," said Portuguese football federation Pedro Proenca. Off the field, Jota was well-known for his passion for video games and even had his own esports team Luna Esports. During the pandemic, he won a Premier League competition among players on the FIFA game, defeating future team-mate Trent Alexander Arnold in the final. His passing was described by Liverpool as an "unimaginable loss" not just of a star player but as a newlywed husband and father of three. kca/pi
