CM Stalin to launch ‘Ungaludan Stalin' aimed at delivering govt services at doorstep
He is reaching Chidambaram by train on Tuesday morning and this is the second time that he travels by train on an official engagement.
The camps will be held in both rural and urban areas from July 15 to November. This initiative aims to bring government services and welfare schemes directly to the people. While 3,768 camps will be conducted in urban centres, 6,232 will be held in the rural hinterland. A total of 43 services from 13 Departments will be provided in the urban areas, it will be 46 services from 15 departments in the rural areas. All applications received will be processed and action taken within 45 days.
Nearly one lakh trained volunteers have started visiting each household to create awareness about the massive initiative, which brings the administration closer to the people and inform about the nearest location of the camp in the respective areas.
The volunteers' role included explaining the various government services on offer and the criteria to avail them and the documents required to be submitted. Booklets containing the information have also been distributed for a wider reach.
Eligible women left out of the 'Kalaignar Urimai Thogai', the Rs 1,000 for women homemakers, have been asked to submit their applications. The applications are available at these camps.
Explaining the programme, Special Officer for Various Public Grievances Redressal Schemes P Amudha, Additional Chief Secretary told the media in Chennai that each camp will be held for four days a week and cover 10,000 people. A help and facilitation centre with 100 personnel with the contact number 1100 has been set up to help the people.
The opposition AIADMK has criticised the programme as a ploy by the ruling DMK to secure the phone numbers of the electorate ahead of the 2026 assembly election.
'It is an election drama aimed at voter outreach. The real objective is to collect voter information in the guise of receiving petitions,' alleged AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, adding, 'Government officials are distributing forms for this scheme to every household. The phone numbers collected are handed to the DMK's IT Wing for use to reach out to the voters at the time of polling.'

EPS mortgaged AIADMK to Amit Shah to save kin, says Stalin in Mayiladuthurai
MAYILADUTHURAI: Responding to criticism levelled by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami about the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday said Palaniswami was promoting the very scheme he attempted to criticise. Referring to Sundhara Travels, a comedy film, Stalin said, 'Like smoke coming out of the bus in the film, only rumours and lies come out of Edappadi's mouth.' He was speaking at a government event in Mayiladuthurai, on the second day of his two-day visit in the district. On Palaniswami's repeated claims that people have been 'fooled for a thousand rupees', Stalin countered that it's not the people who are fooled, but Palaniswami himself, by BJP. He also alleged that EPS had 'mortgaged AIADMK' with BJP leader Amit Shah out of selfishness and in order to protect his family members from raid. 'People are not deceived. Only you have been hoodwinked by believing the BJP. You have mortgaged the AIADMK itself with Amit Shah out of your selfishness and in order to save your family members from raid.' Stalin did not elaborate on what he meant by 'raid,' and also, did not specify any specific government agency.

Man gets three-day jail for Facebook posts scandalising Kerala HC judges; court rejects plea to suspend sentence
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has awarded a three-day simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on P K Suresh Kumar, Alangad, Ernakulam, for publishing Facebook posts that scandalised High Court judges. Though the condemnor requested to suspend the executions of the sentence, the court declined it and directed the Registrar General to make out a warrant to ensure detention of the accused. The division bench said that the accused has made serious and scurrilous allegations against the judges of the High Court, accusing them of having passed judicial orders for their advancement and with improper motives. Such allegations strike at the very foundation of the judicial institution and constitute gross contempt of court. The order stated that during the proceedings, Suresh Kumar filed an affidavit justifying his actions and running to nearly 30 pages. Significantly, he did not deny authorship of the Facebook posts in question. On the contrary, he expressly owned and justified each and every statement made therein. He offered explanations as to the circumstances that allegedly compelled him to publish the impugned posts, despite having tendered an unconditional apology in the earlier contempt proceedings. However, while tendering evidence and during oral submissions, he took a contradictory stand, denying authorship of the posts and contending that the said posts were wrongly attributed to him.
