LSU football closing in on adding five-star defensive end to 2026 recruiting class
LSU football is closing in on a five-star recruit. According to a report from On3/Rivals, LSU is the favorite for the services of EDGE Trenton Henderson, a native of Pensacola, Florida.
The report states LSU's biggest competition is Florida and Texas. Henderson took official visits to all three schools this Summer.
247Sports labels Henderson a five-star, slotting him as the No. 4-ranked EDGE in the country. He's 247's No. 28 overall recruit. The On3 Industry Rankings slot Henderson No. 59 overall and No. 11 at his position. The Tigers have yet to add a pass rusher to the 2026 group, meaning Henderson would fill a key need.
"Sprouting linebacker that can get after the quarterback as he comes screaming around the corner. Size has not been third-party verified, but is believed to be over 6-foot-4 and tipping the scales right around 225 pounds. Took a major step forward between sophomore and junior seasons – evoking much more confidence and physicality," wrote 247Sports' Director of Scouting Andrew Irvins.
According to On3/Rivals, LSU's 2026 class ranks No. 6 in the country. Landing Henderson would put Brian Kelly and crew back in contention for the No. 1 class in college football.

2026 5-star DL reportedly '50-50' between choosing Texas A&M or LSU
Texas A&M is reportedly in a dead heat with the LSU Tigers for the top-ranked defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class, as five-star Lamar Brown is set to make his announcement on Thursday, July 10. After taking back-to-back official visits to LSU and Texas A&M over the past two weekends, the versatile lineman is reportedly "50-50" heading into next week. This week, coach Mike Elko and his staff are focused on 2026 five-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster and four-star linebacker Tank Jones, who are set to commit on Friday. While the Aggies are slight favorites to land both standout athletes, nothing is guaranteed until both players sign with the program. On Monday, On3's AggieYell recruiting insider Landyn Rosow provided another update regarding Lamar Brown's status ahead of his commitment, noting that the progress Elko and defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie have made has truly made his decision a coin toss. "2026 Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab defensive tackle Lamar Brown has long been the biggest A&M target on the board, and he is set to make his decision July 10. Over the past few months, you've seen twist and turns in this recruitment, and this one is shaping to come down to LSU and A&M, and with talking with some sources they believe A&M has just as good as shot to land this one as LSU sources described it as a 'True 50-50'. If the Aggies can land some of these highly-rated commits, Texas A&M recruiting for 2026 will be in outstanding shape. If they were to add all of them, they'll have a real shot at walking away with the number one class in the nation." As Rosow notes, even LSU sources feel like the Aggies are in great shape to pull off one of the most significant recruiting victories of the summer, as Brown is seen as a future first-round NFL draft selection and an immediate contributor during his freshman season. According to On3, Brown is currently positioned as the 7th-ranked 2026 prospect, and the No. 1-ranked athlete and prospect out of Louisiana. DJ Lagway has 'eye-opening' conversation with top QB prospect in 2027 class
The top quarterback in the recruiting class of 2027, Elijah Haven, recently capped off his two-week tour of seven schools at the University of Florida and left saying a conversation with sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway was "eye-opening" for him, according to Manny Navarro of The Athletic. '(Lagway) said the relationships he built in his recruitment process with the coaches is what separated them for him,' Haven said. 'They didn't fake it or anything, and they were always welcoming to him and to his family. That's a big thing for me. It's just about fit for me, whether it's LSU or if it's their rival.' Navarro also reported that Haven's mother likes Florida and his dad is backing whatever decision Haven makes, despite growing up a Georgia fan. A Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native, Haven grew up rooting for Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers. As most of the state's top prospects are, Haven is linked to Brian Kelly's squad. Alabama, Michigan and Ohio State are all major players as well. Lagway is draft-eligible after the 2026 season, so Haven would spend a year behind him at most. Some of the other quarterbacks on the roster may develop into a bridge starter, but Haven would be the natural successor to Lagway as the only current five-star quarterback in his class. Florida has plenty of work to do before landing a commitment from Haven, though. Miami recently entered the mix, and Cam Ward's record-setting season has Haven interested in the Hurricanes. Playing for a national championship contender and seeing the field early are two items on his wish list, but neither is a deal breaker. Scouting Report "I was expecting to see more rawness out of (Haven) from a mechanical perspective walking into this event," wrote On3's Cody Bellaire in a June 28 scouting report, "but he appears to have cleaned up some of those issues during this offseason. During the routes on air portion of the workout in the morning session, Haven threw with good touch and was letting the ball rip over the middle of the field. "Then we got to the afternoon session and started the 7-on-7 period, it was quite refreshing watching him go through his reads and pick apart the defense. He ended up throwing touchdowns on his first four drives of the afternoon and showed great decision-making. This was easily his best in-person showing for us and showed quality improvement to his game on Saturday."
