SA Weather Service issues warning for severe thunderstorms
The South African weather service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 warning for isolated showers and thundershowers expected in southern KZN today (8 June), with conditions becoming scattered to widespread over most parts of the province tomorrow.

Some of the areas expected to be hit are uMhlathuze, Mtubatuba, Hluhluwe, Ulundi and Nongoma.
'Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe along the south coast of KZN today and over most parts of KZN tomorrow,' said SAWS.
The severe thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours leading to localised flooding, large hail or large amounts of small hail and damaging winds.'
Impact include localised damage to infrastructure, settlements and mud-based houses; localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges; minor motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and poor visibility; and difficult driving conditions on dirt roads.

SAWS advises the public to take caution or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low lying areas as these may be susceptible to flood and there may be sinkholes; avoid outdoor activities as lightning, hail and flooding may result in injures and death.
They also said to stay indoors, keep clear of windows, shelter pets and cover vehicles; move livestock and cars to safe sheltered area to avoid flying debris.

South Africans should prepare for a distinctly chilly and wet week as a cold front sweeps across the nation, ushering in isolated showers and a noticeable plunge in temperatures. From Monday, residents in various regions will encounter a dramatic shift in weather, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) predicting scattered rainfall and a 60% probability of showers particularly affecting the Eastern Cape, southern KwaZulu-Natal, and along the southern coastline. The inclement weather does not stop there; isolated thunderstorms carrying a 30% chance of rain have been forecast for pockets of the Northern Cape, Free State, and Limpopo. However, it is worth noting that most areas in the central and north-eastern parts of the country, including Gauteng and Mpumalanga, are expected to remain dry, with no severe weather warnings currently in effect.

These four Durban beaches have been closed for almost a month
Four of Durban's popular beaches have remained closed for almost a month now. According to the municipality, since 26 June, four Durban beaches have been closed for swimming due to poor water quality. These beaches are: ANSTEY'S BEACH REUNION DOONSIDE BEACH BRONZE BEACH 'This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can't swim.' the municipality said.
