Today, under DAY-NRLM, we have 10 crore women who are part of 91 lakh self-help groups. The social capital formed through this programme is unmatched. In every sphere of development, these women are the torchbearers and leaders,' Chouhan said.
The rural development ministry called it a 'significant step towards realising the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and fast-tracking the Lakhpati Didi mission, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).' Speaking at the event, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the collaboration reinforces the government's commitment to transform rural women into confident entrepreneurs and to realise the vision of 3 crore Lakhpati Didis across rural India.

Tribal protests, Union minister Shivraj Chouhan's push force MP government to halt proposed Sardar Patel Wildlife Sanctuary

BHOPAL: Massive protests by tribals accompanied by pressure by union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has compelled the Dr Mohan Yadav-led Madhya Pradesh government to put on hold the process of creating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Wildlife Sanctuary in Sehore district of the central Indian state. 'In pursuance with the directions from the government, the proposal to create the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Wildlife Sanctuary in parts of the Sehore Forest Division is put on hold. Entire process on the issue is put on hold till further orders,' principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF-Wildlife) Subhranjan Sen wrote to the DFO-Sehore on Monday. Importantly, the proposal to create the sanctuary in the Sehore Forest Division (which comes under the home district and parliamentary constituency of the current union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan) was first mooted during the Congress government in the state, when the current Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar was the state's forest minister. Around six years later, in May 2025, the present BJP regime headed by Dr Mohan Yadav had set the ball rolling again on the issue, seeking a revised proposal from DFO-Sehore to create the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Wildlife Sanctuary. Just a month later, 50 houses of the tribal community were reportedly demolished by the forest department for removing encroachments from the Khivni Wildlife Sanctuary in the adjoining Dewas district on June 23. Four days later, massive protest by tribals was reported in Sehore district, where the local MP and union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was attending a development meeting at the district collectorate. The tribal protestors, including men and women from Sehore and Dewas districts were protesting the June 23 demolition of houses and the proposed Sardar Vallabhbhai Wildlife Sanctuary, which they alleged would affect 2 lakh people in Sehore and Dewas districts.

U.S. President Donald Trump is also preparing to hold key meetings with his trade team this week to determine tariff rates for individual countries unwilling to negotiate with the United States.'We will hear about a trade deal with India very soon,' said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a media briefing. While she did not specify a timeline or details of the negotiations, her remarks indicate that India remains a priority in the Trump administration's evolving trade and the United States are currently locked in high-stakes negotiations for a trade agreement, with pressure mounting ahead of a July 9 deadline. The talks, underway in Washington, aim to prevent the reimposition of a 26% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods, a levy that was originally announced by the Trump administration and temporarily suspended in April for 90 days.A senior Indian official confirmed to PTI that India has hardened its stance, particularly on demands for duty concessions in agriculture and dairy sectors—areas considered politically and economically sensitive. Indian negotiators, led by Special Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, have already extended their stay in Washington to try and clinch a deal before the deadline the U.S. is pushing for market access for apples, tree nuts, genetically modified crops, dairy, and electric vehicles, India is seeking relief in labor-intensive sectors such as textiles, garments, leather goods, and chemicals. Agricultural liberalization remains the biggest hurdle. Experts and policy groups like the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) have warned that cutting tariffs on U.S. farm products—many of which benefit from heavy subsidies—could threaten India's food security and expose small-scale farmers to global price volatility. GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava argued that permanent tariff cuts would be 'strategically unwise' and could impact over 700 million rural the challenges, both sides are also aiming for a broader bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by fall 2025, with an ambitious target of increasing bilateral trade from $191 billion to $500 billion by 2030.

Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Image: X/@CMOMizoram Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma announced on Monday that the Center has approved a Rajdhani express to connect the northeastern state with Delhi. This comes after Lalduhoma met with railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and asked to provide for a Rajdhani that will serve as a direct rail link between Aizawl and Delhi, Kolkata, and Tripura, as reported by PTI. The announcement was made when Lalduhoma was addressing the celebration of Remna ni, marking the anniversary of the signing of the Mizoram peace accord in Aizawl. "The railway minister has complied with our request. We will get Rajdhani express service. There will be train service between Aizawl and Delhi and two other cities Tripura (Agartala) and Kolkata," he said. The event was hosted by the apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), and was held at Lammual in Aizawl. The construction of the 51.38 km long Bairabi-Sairang railway line has been completed and is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per chief minister Lalduhoma. The chief minister said he had requested the Centre to upgrade Sairang railway station into a world-class facility, a proposal that has been approved. "The railway line is ready for inauguration. We are waiting for the Prime Minister to open it," he said. The Bairabi-Sairang railway line marks the first-ever direct rail link to Aizawl, connecting it to the national railway grid via Silchar. The project features numerous bridges and 48 tunnels and overcame difficult terrain and significant logistical challenges. Noting that the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) is nearing its completion, Lalduhoma commented that Mizoram is set to emerge as a key commercial hub and gateway to ASEAN countries. "When the KMMTTP is completed, it will be a commercial link to not only Mizoram but the entire country. Mizoram's gateway will be shifted to the southern side," he added. The KMMTTP project aims to connect the Kolkata port with Sittwe port in Myanmar by sea, then via the Kaladan river to Paletwa in southern Chin state in Myanmar, and then connect by road to Mizoram.
