ITV drama streamed 30,000,000 times confirms season 4 a year after final episode

Metro09-06-2025
The hit ITV drama from the creator of Line of Duty is officially coming back for season four – after the show has been off the air for over a year.
The bomb threat drama Trigger Point stars Vicky McClure as Afghan war veteran Lana Washington, whose bomb disposal team is tasked with protecting the public from explosives and terrorist threats.
Produced by Jed Mercurio, the nail-biting show has been commissioned for a fourth season before the third has even aired.
Season three wrapped filming in London last month and is set to hit screens this autumn, with the freshly renewed fourth season coming in 2026.
The show averaged eight million viewers for its second series and became the second most-watched drama on ITV1 (behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office) when it aired way back in 2024.
McClure, 42, will film the batch of season four episodes this summer, sharing a short clip from the set of Trigger Point season three to confirm the good news.

McClure showed her blackened fingers, presumably from filming bomb stunts, and told fans: 'We're having a brilliant time. We're nearly wrapped. It's very explosive in there but I can't show you.
She then teased: 'What I can tell you is I've got a little secret. This is not the end. We're about to bounce straight into series four.'
McClure added: 'I can't wait to continue the story of Lana Washington and her colleagues and the brilliant people that make this show.'
In a statement the Line of Duty star said she's 'buzzing' ITV have backed the drama enough to greenlit season four before the third has even aired.
'I love working with the team, we have a great time making the show and I cannot wait to continue Lana's journey on Trigger Point,' said McClure. More Trending
ITV's Director of Drama Polly Hill praised the show as one of ITV's 'most-watched dramas' of 2024, adding: 'I'm delighted that this thrilling series is returning for a fourth series.
'I know audiences will be once again on the edge of their seat as Lana and the team take us on another thrilling ride to keep the capital safe.'
Mercurio and McClure are both listed as executive producers for the upcoming fourth season, with Bloodlands writer Chris Brandon on board to pen the scripts.

Fiona Phillips shares true feelings on Eamonn Holmes 20 years on from TV split

Eamonn Holmes' former ITV co-star made her true feelings clear about the GB News host, as she reflected on their time together as ITV co-stars 20 years on Eamonn Holmes ' former GMTV co-host, Fiona Phillips, has claimed he "wasn't the easiest person to work with". The duo presented the ITV morning programme GMTV together for nearly a decade, from 1996 until Eamonn's departure in April 2005. Upon his exit, he released a statement which read: "What a privilege it has been to wake up the nation over the years with stories that affected all our lives. I've covered every type of story imaginable at GMTV and it's the right time to move on. ‌ "I'll particularly miss my partnership with Fiona Phillips and I wish her and all the rest of the team the very best for the future." ‌ In her own farewell message, Fiona humorously noted that she had spent more time with Eamonn than her own husband Martin Frizell, adding: "This is our ninth year together. I will miss him more than words can say." Now two decades after his departure, the 66-year-old has made her true feelings clear. Writing for The Mail on Sunday alongside her husband Martin, Fiona claimed that Eamonn left the show because he felt it had become too "celebrity-obsessed". "He was a good journalist but not always the easiest person to work with," she further commented. After his exit, Fiona said it "felt like a new opportunity" for her, having previously felt sidelined as his co-host. ‌ "For years, if there was a big interview to be done with a politician, Eamonn would lead the conversation and I was supposed to chip in with a few questions near the end - and I hated that," she confessed. The mum-of-two revealed that she also later found out that Eamonn was paid "significantly more" than her. "It seems incredible that well into this century, no one had batted an eyelid at a man being paid more than a woman for doing exactly the same job," she said. ‌ After stepping away from GMTV, Eamonn went on to join Sky News, presenting the revamped Sunrise show. His work on screen has also included co-hosting ITV's This Morning and more recently, the GB News' Breakfast Show with Ellie Costello. ‌ As for Fiona, with the help of Martin, she remains focused on her writing career, which has included the release of her new book Remember When: My Life with Alzheimer's. The presenter was diagnosed with the disease in 2022, which she initially confused with menopausal symptoms. After going public with her diagnosis, Eamonn honoured his "dear friend" in a touching statement on-air. Speaking with his co-stars, he said Fiona "always did fear it would come after her", given her mother's struggle with the illness, and added: "We wish Fiona all the best."
