Santi Cazorla Extends Contract with Real Oviedo at 40
Cazorla, who turns 41 in December, joined Oviedo in August 2023 and last season guided his boyhood club back to the top flight for the first time in 24 years.
During his 81 appearances for Spain he won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012.
Cazorla also lifted the FA Cup twice during his time in England.
'With this renewal, Santi Cazorla, a symbol and emblem of Oviedo, proves that dreams, when pursued with the heart, come true,' the Asturian club said in a statement.
'Real Oviedo have secured the leadership of a footballer who embodies the club's values like few others, both on and off the field,' they added- AFP

The Argentine claimed 34 trophies with Barcelona and departed as the club's all-time leading scorer with 672 goals, although he left after the 2020-21 season due to the club's financial troubles. The number 10 shirt at Barcelona was also worn by greats such as Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho, but Yamal said he would not be weighed down by its legacy. "Messi paved the way with the number 10, I will make mine," Yamal told reporters. "They are three soccer and club legends. Every kid dreams of having something from Messi, Ronaldinho and Maradona... I'll try to carry on that legacy. "First, my dream was to debut for Barca and wear the number 10. Everyone who grows up here dreams of that. I'm grateful to the club." Following Messi's exit, the jersey was passed to young winger Ansu Fati but the now 22-year-old failed to live up to his early promise and he was eventually loaned out to Brighton & Hove Albion. Fati will spend next season on loan at AS Monaco, clearing the way for Yamal to inherit one of football's most famous shirt numbers. Having also won the European Championship with Spain last year, Yamal said his next goal was to win the titles that are missing from his trophy cabinet. The defending champions credited their resurgent performances, including a 4-0 victory over the Netherlands, to rediscovering their identity following a disappointing 2-1 loss to France in their opening match at the European Championship. "Proper England is who we are and what we want to show and of course it has to do with our tactics, how we want to play, but also our behaviours, how we want to support each other together, work really hard, and, of course, play to our strengths too," England coach Sarina Wiegman said at a press conference on Wednesday. "When we do that, I think the chance of winning is the highest." Defender Lucy Bronze, who at 33 is England's oldest player, said the term was a throwback to a time when the team was not among the world's best. "We're a new team, we have a lot of new players who have very different experiences of playing for England compared to the likes of myself, where we knew that England used to have to dig deep all the time," said Bronze, who is playing in her seventh major tournament. "Like 2015 was the first time we beat Germany. That's insane to think of right now. But England in the past, it was you have to dig out performances and you are maybe the underdog, you're not the favourite," she added. "Whereas this England team has developed, obviously, we're a very talented team, a lot of technical ability, tactics, all that comes in the game. England are in for a tough encounter against a Swedish team that have not lost a game in more than a year, and cruised to three victories in the group stage. England and Sweden drew their two most recent matches against each other in Euro qualifying last year. But Bronze said that confidence was high after their 6-1 thrashing of Wales, and at Wednesday's training her teammates were eager for the tournament's knockout stage to get going. "Any player in the world wants to play in the big games, I think it's the most exciting quarter-final, both teams are talented," Bronze said. "We knew that coming into the quarter-final that it was going to be against a tough team. All the girls are really excited about what tomorrow is going to bring." Real Madrid midfielder Bellingham undergoes successful shoulder surgery
REAL MADRID midfielder Jude Bellingham has successfully undergone surgery to address a long-standing shoulder dislocation issue, the Spanish club said on Wednesday. Bellingham has been managing the injury since 2023, playing with his shoulder strapped, but the 22-year-old decided to go under the knife after Real Madrid's campaign at the Club World Cup, where they lost to Paris St Germain in the semi-finals. "Bellingham will now undergo a period of rehabilitation, prior to returning to training and starting his recovery," Real Madrid said in a statement. The club did not give a timeline on his return but Spanish media reported the England international could miss two to three months of action and potentially return in October.
