'You know, you're not alone. I have my own…'
Five months ago, NCIS: Origins viewers were left hanging with that incomplete thought, wondering what Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Hayes was about to say next after probie Leroy Jethro Gibbs made clear that the loss of his daughter was too fresh for him to help watch over a young girl.

NCIS' Returning Character Revealed! LL COOL J to Guest-Star in Season 22
When CBS' already-renewed freshman drama resumes its season this Monday at 10/9c, you will get that answer — though it may not be quite what you predicted, and it is delivered in a wonderful episode that also illustrates exactly all that Mary Jo does at NIS, and how her work has incredible ripple effects.
TVLine spoke with Tyla Abercrumbie about finally getting to shed light on the NIS Camp Pendleton office's 'HSIC' (Head Secretary in Charge).
TVLINE | It's been a minute since Episode 4, where we got this half of a half of a hint that Mary Jo has something in common with Gibbs. Is it finally time to learn some things about the 'HSIC'?Yeah, it has been a while! And it's nice because, like you said, it was a little hint dropped that most people probably forgot about it, and then you get to this episode and you're like, 'Oh, now I see.'
TVLINE | Had you been asking the showrunners, 'When's it all going to come out?'I actually knew when it was going to come out; they told me that it wouldn't air until around March Madness. Now, as a person that doesn't follow March Madness, I was like, 'Well, when is that?' [Laughs]
TVLINE | What sets in motion this Mary Jo-centric episode?Well, she has been taking care of everyone else and kind of moving through her life — I think of her as very optimistic and loving the life she's built for herself — when these papers arrive for her, bringing the past forward. You see her be thrown back into a reality. We can forget, sometimes, that there are things lingering out there, unresolved, because we focus so much on others' problems, and that's what Mary Jo does. She focuses on helping other people get through whatever they're trying to get through, so she can avoid thinking about her own problems.
TVLINE | Had you been fully debriefed on what her backstory would be? Or was there anything in this script that surprised you a bit? There was a lot that surprised me in this script. And no, I hadn't been debriefed on the backstory, but I did have a really wonderful couple of conversations with [showrunners] Gina and David, where we talked about what we wanted to do with Mary Jo and what I wanted to see in this character. You don't always get such a luxury, because people have their ideas and you just show up and say the words, but this was a really nice collaboration. We did talk about things that we wanted, I wanted, for her. I wanted to show that she had family and friends that were from her world that reflected her, meaning from the African American, Black, community that she has outside of work.
TVLINE | Yeah, we get a glimpse of a dinner party she hosts.Yes, and we get to see Hattie [Hoskins] from Episode 4, who plays Millie. You see that she's building community, that people don't just leave her life but become her family. I also wanted to deal with giving her real issues that are outside of [the office] and the victims of crimes, that she had something else. They took that and ran with it.
TVLINE | A lot of Mary Jo's workplace dynamics have focused on her and Franks (Kyle Schmid), and to be sure, it's a wonderful thing they have going. But were you excited, in this episode, to really get some scenes with Mariel [Molino's Lala] and Diany [Rodriguez's Vera]?I was, and we all said that. We were like, 'We want more of these, where the girls just connect and bond as women and coworkers.' It was really nice because I'd watched them work, I admire their work. They're both so talented, and they really helped, in my scene with them, to move the moment emotionally forward because I now know them as people, and not just as characters. You always hope your scene partner is listening while you're talking, you're listening while they're talking, but when you know the people you're working with and you feel that honest energy, it's really nice. And it showed.
TVLINE | Meanwhile, Mary Jo's scenes with her assistant secretaries are like the comic relief of the episode….They are! I love those two characters because they're there and you don't really see much of them, and so they create this comic relief. But at the same time, you see Mary Jo kind of in charge of two tiers of people. You've got the agents who are independent of her and doing something totally different, but then you have these young ladies who will probably run an office someday.
TVLINE | Is this another episode that tugs at the heart? It tugs at the heart a couple times, for a couple reasons. Not only is it written and performed lovely, but it's also for anyone who has been enjoying Mary Jo and her quips and seeing her as this really, really cool character, but wanting to know more about her, because they've fallen in love with her, I believe. I hope they love me! And I think that with anybody you care for, when you see them go through something, that emotion tugs at your heart. So, yeah, I believe this episode is going to do that to a lot of fans.Best of TVLine

The Challenge Premiere: Cara Maria Sorbello Breaks Down That ‘Wild' First Challenge, Why [Spoiler] Was Eliminated

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats! New threats have officially invaded The Challenge! More from TVLine Destination X Winner Revealed! Grade Season 1 and the Finale Leanne Morgan Tees Up Her Netflix Comedy From EP Chuck Lorre, Reveals How Her Real-Life Husband Feels About TV Hubby Ryan Stiles NBC Reveals Fall Premiere Dates for #OneChicago, SVU and More - Plus, Organized Crime Returns! In the competition series' Season 41 premiere, 16 veterans are each paired with a rookie partner for a rough-and-tumble battle for all the glory. And with most of the early housekeeping having been taken care of in the Day Zero launch special, this episode hurls us directly into the season's first challenge, which sees players diving into a huge mud pit to collect balls worth varying degrees of points. The kicker? Partners are tied together and must move in tandem. 'The hardest part about this type of challenge is just making use of the area that you're in,' two-time winner Cara Maria Sorbello tells TVLine. 'You could be in a muddier area, a drier area. You might have to make your way around. And then you're tied to your partner. So when you're running down, you could be going for one thing, they could be going for the other thing. I thought Jake and I did incredibly well, so I was actually surprised when they counted the balls. I was like, 'What the heck?' I thought we crushed it, and then as soon as I come out and I look at everybody else's baskets and I'm like, 'Holy hell, how did they do this?' I heard people were kicking balls to each other, people were partnering up, so I don't know, it was a wild one. It was tough, but I like that. I like the type of challenges where you have to grind it out.' This season, the Top 8 teams of each challenge will earn and accumulate points. The results of 'Mud Ball Madness' are as follows: Nia and Justin (came in 8th place, earned 1 point), Leroy and Sydney (7th place, 2 points), Ashley and Gabe (6th place, 3 points), Michaela and Will (5th place, 4 points), Olivia and Cedric (4th place, 5 points), Theo and Izzy (3rd place, 6 points), Aviv and Yeremi (2nd place, 7 points) and Bananas and Dee (1st place, 8 points). Bananas and Dee win safety, along with the power to save one team from elimination. As for Rogan and Adrienne, last place sends them directly into to the Arena. TJ flips a coin to determine whether it's going to be a male or female elimination, and unfortunately for Rogan, he's doomed to hit the sand. New threat Justin is then voted in to join him. In 'Intertia,' players must maneuver a large hamster wheel-like contraption along a three-bump track. The first person to get down the track and back wins and stays in the game. But the elimination turns out to be a lot harder than it looks. 'Looking at what this is off the bat, I'm thinking, 'Oh my God, Justin doesn't stand a chance,'' says Sorbello. 'He's a little peanut in this hamster cage. All Rogan has to do is give one hard ram into it and he's a rugby player, you know? Game over. This thing's gonna flop around and he's got this in two seconds. And boy was I wrong!' A totally spent Rogan doesn't have what it takes, and underestimated Cheer vet Justin wins the elimination and his Challenge stripes in one fell swoop. 'It took a really long time. It was really frustrating,' Sorbello continues. 'I know Rogan got gassed because I think Rogan was going for pure brutality and strength, and Justin didn't have that. So he had to be creative. He had gymnastics and he had cheerleading, and he started using a really good strategy and did it just the way it was supposed to be [done], and with a little flair too, to be honest.' Destination X Winner Revealed! Grade Season 1 and the Finale

Destination X delivered a dramatic Season 1 finale on Tuesday — but did the best contestant win? Let's recap. At the top of the hour, we meet our final three competitors — Rick, Biggy and Peter — for the last time before the field gets narrowed down to two in a high-stakes game of trivia. For Biggy, the challenge brings about the stinging bite of betrayal: He finally learns about Peter and Rick's secret alliance, and the pair use their correct answers to conspire against Biggy in hopes of advancing to the final stage of competition together. More from TVLine Save the Dates: South Park Sets Return, Kelly Clarkson's NBC Series and More NBC Reveals Fall Premiere Dates for #OneChicago, SVU and More - Plus, Organized Crime Returns! America's Got Talent Season 20 Resumes With 'Unreal' Comeback Audition (Exclusive Sneak Peek) Despite Biggy's surprise at the backstabbing from his pal Rick, the man stays in the game until the last possible second. Rick finishes on top, but Biggy and Peter finish out the challenge in a tie. It all comes down to one last tie-breaking question to determine who moves on in the competition: How many islands is Venice made up of? Peter guesses 27, while Biggy guesses 210. The correct answer? 118, meaning Peter inches ahead of Biggy by just one island. (One dadgum island, as Biggy puts it!) Peter and Rick advance in hopes of winning the cash prize, as each must solve a string of rather random geographic riddles. Finally, both men receive three clues to Jeffrey's final Destination X: a $100 bill, an hourglass and a photo of Queen Elizabeth. Peter thinks the money and royalty point toward the Tower of London, home to the Crown Jewels. Rick, on the other hand, connects the mighty Benjamin Franklin with telling time, and guesses Big Ben. In the end, it's Rick who is presented with a briefcase full of $250,000 within the walls of the iconic towering clock, and becomes the Season 1 winner of Destination X. Are you happy to see Rick walk away victorious in the finale? Grade the finale, and Season 1 overall, then sound off in the comments!
