'Ted Lasso' Season 4 first look revealed as filming begins in Kansas City
Apple TV+ has released a first look photo from the upcoming fourth season of "Ted Lasso," which has officially started production in Kansas City. Filming is also set to take place in London, the streamer said.
The photo shows Jason Sudeikis' titular soccer coach seated at a restaurant alongside his old colleagues Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift), Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple).
Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent and Brendan Hunt's Coach Beard aren't pictured in the image, but both characters are also returning for the new episodes, Apple has confirmed. Goldstein and Hunt are also producers on the new season.
Several supporting characters from the first three seasons of "Lasso," including Nick Mohammed's Nate and Phil Dunster's Jamie Tartt, have not been announced as part of the Season 4 cast.
The glimpse at Season 4 comes more than two years after the Emmy-winning soccer comedy aired what appeared to be its final episode in May 2023.
The show's first three seasons followed college football coach Ted as he is recruited from Kansas to coach a British soccer team, AFC Richmond. By the end of Season 3, Ted said goodbye to the team and moved back home to the U.S. to be with his son, Henry (Gus Turner). Sudeikis and his fellow "Lasso" producers had said in interviews that a three-season arc was planned from the start of the series.
But despite the finality of the Season 3 finale, which also tied up many stories for the supporting characters, Apple never explicitly confirmed that it was the end of "Lasso." After years of fan and media speculation that the show could continue in some form, a fourth season was officially announced in March of this year.
'Ted Lasso' fans can believe it: The show is back for a Season 4, with Ted coaching women
In Season 4, "Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team," Apple's plot synopsis says, using the British word for soccer. "Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."
Sudeikis teased in a March statement that "as we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to 'look before we leap," in Season 4 "the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be."
Speaking to USA TODAY in April, Goldstein said he "cried and we had such an emotional goodbye" at the end of Season 3 of "Lasso," but "I do think a part of me thought this wasn't the end."
Brett Goldstein on 'wonderful' 'Ted Lasso' revival and his first HBO stand-up special
"I just felt like it's such a lovely world," he added. "It sort of felt like surely there'll be a way to do more."
Newcomers to the cast in Season 4 include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern. Grant Feely will take over the role of Ted's son, Henry.

Owen Farrell returns to Lions bench. Andy Farrell makes 3 changes to starting XV for second test
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Owen Farrell has been selected on the bench in a British and Irish Lions overhaul for the second test against Australia that includes three changes to the starting lineup that won the first test 27-19 in Brisbane last weekend. Farrell led the Lions in their last midweek tour game — a win over the First Nations and Pasifika squad — and is now set to make his first test appearance since England's World Cup campaign in 2023 on Saturday. He is on his fourth Lions tour. His father, head coach Andy Farrell, recalled Bundee Aki to start at inside center to replace Sione Tuipulotu in the only change to the starting backline. England's Ollie Chessum was drafted in to partner skipper Maro Itoje as a replacement for injured Ireland lock Joe McCarthy and Andrew Porter replaced Ellis Genge at loosehead, giving the Lions an all-Ireland frontrow. Joining Owen Farrell on the bench will be Jac Morgan, restoring a Welsh player to the test squad after an historic absence last weekend. 'We have put ourselves in a good position after the first test, but we know there will be a massive reaction from this Wallaby team,' Andy Farrell said. 'We will have to be a lot better than we were last week.' The Wallabies need a win on Saturday in Melbourne to keep the three-test series alive. Australia coach Joe Schmidt made three changes to his starting pack with blindside flanker Rob Valetini and lock Will Skelton and hooker David Porecki all returning from injuries to add some size and weight. Langi Gleeson returns as forward cover on the eight-man reserves bench which only has two backs — scrumhalf Tate McDermott and utility Ben Donaldson. Australia trailed 24-5 two minutes into the second half last week in Brisbane but rallied to close the margin to eight points. 'The squad has recovered well after a very physical first test,' Schmidt said. 'We took some confidence from the second half last week, but we know we'll need to improve further against a Lions team that will bring plenty of fire to the contest.' The Lions are now 7-0 in Australia, including the victory in the first test and wins over Super Rugby franchises Western Force, Queensland Reds , Waratahs and Brumbies and two invitational teams. The Lions have taken leads into the Melbourne match in the last two tours to Australia in 2001 and 2013 but lost the second test there both times. In 2001, Australia rallied to clinch the series in Sydney in the third test. The Lions won the Sydney decider 12 years ago. ___ Squads: Australia: Tom Wright, Max Jorgensen, Joseph-Aukuso Sua'ali'i, Len Ikitau, Harry Potter, Tom Lynagh, Jake Gordon; Harry Wilson (captain), Fraser McReight, Rob Valetini, Nick Frost, Allan Ala'alatoa, David Porecki, James Slipper. Reserves: Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, Tom Robertson, Jeremy Wiliams, Langi Gleeson, Carlo Tizzano, Tate McDermott, Ben Donaldson.
