‘Pakistan is the emperor with no clothes,' says BJP MP Baijayant Panda after all-party delegation's Middle East visit, claims countries now ‘stand with us'
NEW DELHI: BJP Lok Sabha MP Baijayant Jay Panda, who led an all-party parliamentary delegation to four Islamic nations, launched a sharp critique of Pakistan's global image, calling it "an emperor that has no clothes" in an interview with India Today, as cited by news agency ANI.
His comments came after the delegation's visit to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria, where he said India received a 'phenomenal reception' and found a shared stance with these countries against terrorism.
"Pakistan is like the emperor that has no clothes. It's pretty shameless, but everybody knows what it is," Panda said. He claimed that while the four nations are Islamic, they have diverged sharply from Pakistan by cracking down on jihadist and Salafist elements.
"All these four countries have taken very strong actions against jihadism... Pakistan has gone in the opposite direction," he said, adding that Islamabad continues to encourage fundamentalism and misuse aid meant for development.
Panda further said these countries are frustrated with Pakistan's use of financial assistance. "They have seen that the aid has been misused... instead of developing schools, roads, and hospitals, Pakistan has used it to finance terrorism," he said.

According to him, these countries now 'stand with us' and view India as an opportunity, unlike Pakistan which they consider a 'problem child.'
The BJP MP also underlined that the delegation highlighted Pakistan's return to supporting terror groups after being removed from the FATF grey list. 'This message found a great deal of resonance,' he said, noting that India's anti-terror stand was welcomed.
On the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed civilians, Panda said all four countries issued strong statements condemning terrorism.
"They are on the same page when we go with this message,' he said. He also expressed hope that these countries would take steps behind the scenes that would 'not be very encouraging for Pakistan' and possibly push it towards self-correction.
Emphasising India's assertive new approach, he said, 'We were there to explain the new normal. We will retaliate and specifically target terrorist bases.' However, he clarified that India did not want to escalate tensions or provoke nuclear threats. 'If they escalate, we will hit them back... but never go near the nuclear threshold,' he added.
The delegation included MPs Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Harsh Shringla and Satnam Singh Sandhu.

The court stated that Rule 8 (II) Column (5) of Schedule-III, Serial No. 1, of the Chhattisgarh Public Health Engineering Department (Non-Gazetted) (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2016, is "illegal and without jurisdiction." They cited the Supreme Court's judgement in the Puneet Sharma & Others v. Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited & Another case, which directed states to allow degree holders to participate in recruitment processes. The State, represented by the Deputy Advocate General, argued that the 2016 rules maintained the same qualification criteria as the earlier 1979 and 2012 rules. The State also submitted that the 5% promotion quota for in-service candidates, which includes diploma and degree holders, was a separate provision for existing employees who may have acquired higher qualifications during their service. The Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CGPEB), the recruiting agency, stated that it acts based on existing rules and departmental requisitions. The intervenors supported the State's contentions. The High Court observed that excluding degree holders, who possess superior knowledge and technical skills, was unreasonable and counterproductive to recruiting competent individuals. The court noted that this restriction undermined principles of fairness and equal opportunity, violating Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution of India. 'The exclusion of degree holders, who possess the necessary knowledge and technical skills, from eligibility for the post is arbitrary, unreasonable, and counterproductive to the goal of recruiting competent individuals. It violates the principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and the fundamental rights under Articles 14, 16, and 21 of the Constitution. An interim order was issued on 25 March 2025, allowing degree holders to provisionally apply for the posts, subject to the final outcome of the petitions. The court clarified that this order would apply to all similarly situated candidates. Following the declaration of the rule as "ultra vires," the High Court has directed the respondent authorities to proceed with the selection process, ensuring that engineering degree holders are allowed to participate, provided they meet other prescribed criteria in the advertisement.

'Desperate bid' to revive political fortunes: BJP leaders attack Thackeray cousins over joint rally
BJP leaders in Maharashtra on Saturday attacked Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, saying their joint rally in Mumbai was a "desperate attempt" to revive their political fortunes and recover the lost ground ahead of the civic polls, and added that the event was more like a "family reunion". Uddhav and Raj on Saturday shared the public stage and hosted a victory gathering, titled 'Awaj Marathicha' in Mumbai's Worli to celebrate the rollback of two Government Resolutions (GRs) issued earlier by the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation introducing Hindi as a third language from Class 1 in state schools. During the rally, Uddhav, who heads the Shiv Sena (UBT), said he and his cousin Raj, the president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have come together to stay united, and hinted at contesting the upcoming civic elections together. Raj took aim at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying he managed to do what Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and others could not by bringing the two cousins together. State minister Ashish Shelar and BJP MLC Pravin Darekar targeted the Thackeray cousins over the event. Shelar described the Worli event as a desperate attempt by the Sena (UBT) to recover its lost political ground. "Did Pakistanis vote for us?...It was the Marathi voters who gave the Mahayuti a massive mandate. In Mumbai too, BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP's Sana Malik won with the support of Marathi people," he said. There was confusion on stage about party flags and special invites, which proved it was not a cultural event but a calculated political programme, he added. Asked about the remarks against CM Fadnavis, Darekar said similar statements were earlier made by NCP (SP) and they were possibly influenced by Sharad Pawar's proximity to Uddhav Thackeray. "Still, the fact that Uddhav is attacking Fadnavis shows the latter's popularity. People throw stones at those trees that bear fruit," the BJP legislator said. Responding to Raj Thackeray's remark that Devendra Fadnavis achieved what Balasaheb Thackeray could not, Darekar said it should be taken positively. He sought to know how many Marathi builders benefited when the Thackerays were in power. Darekar also highlighted the BJP's efforts to promote Marathi language. "It was Fadnavis who constantly followed up with the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who granted the status of classical language to Marathi. It should not be forgotten," he said. On Uddhav's allegation that BJP discards its allies after using them, Darekar countered saying it was the Sena (UBT) chief himself who abandoned his own leaders. "We allowed the (undivided) Shiv Sena to have its mayor in BMC despite the BJP being just a few seats short. But it was Uddhav Thackeray who exercised use-and-throw policy with Sena leaders like Narayan Rane, Chhagan Bhujbal, Ramdas Kadam, Ganesh Naik and even Raj Thackeray," he said. Commenting on Uddhav's newfound partnership with Raj, the BJP MLC said it was driven purely by political needs. "He never gave Raj importance in the party. But now, in order to save his own position, he is trying to bring him back," he said. While acknowledging the right to protest, Darekar warned that such movements must not lead to division. "Under the garb of protest, if there is an attempt to create division based on language, caste or religion, it should be avoided," he said.

He announced that his statewide campaign titled 'Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' (Let's Protect People, Let's Redeem Tamil Nadu) will begin from Coimbatore on July 7, covering eight districts in the first phase. The newly launched campaign logo featured two leaves with the AIADMK flag, a raised fist symbolising revolution, and the slogans 'Puratchi Tamizharin Ezhuchi Payanam' and 'Tamilagathai Kappom, Makkalai Meetpom', reinforcing the party's mission to protect and uplift the people of Tamil Nadu. While addressing the event, Edappadi Palaniswami said, "Following the footsteps of Perarignar Anna, our leaders MGR and Amma have lived their lives for people. AIADMK is following that and working for the welfare of people." Taking a sharp jibe at Chief Minister MK Stalin, Mr Palaniswami added, "Chief Minister MK Stalin says Opposition leader now only meeting the people. "Our goal is to remove this evil government," he added, setting a confrontational tone ahead of the 2026 state elections. "To defeat DMK, all like-minded parties should unite. He later added that Union Minister Amit Shah has already mentioned that AIADMK will head the NDA alliance in the State, and he will be the candidate for the Chief Minister post. Earlier, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan welcomed the reported remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the BJP-AIADMK alliance and the chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Assembly elections. He said that all was well within the BJP-AIADMK alliance and that Edappadi K Palaniswami would lead the state again.
