Lewis Capaldi says drummer was in ‘floods of tears' at secret Glastonbury set

Lewis Capaldi has said his drummer was in 'floods of tears' when he performed a secret set at Glastonbury Festival 2025, two years after the singer struggled to manage the symptoms of his Tourette syndrome at the festival.
The 28-year-old performed a 35-minute surprise performance on the Pyramid stage, having taken a two-year break from performing after his last appearance at the Somerset festival, and revealed he had to leak his own secret set after he was worried people would not turn up.
Capaldi said: 'I'm not great at keeping secrets, I wanted it to be a surprise, but we had to start leaking it out a couple of weeks before because it would have been strange to come out to an empty field.
'By that weekend it was the worst-kept secret. It was genuinely the best day of my life, I loved every moment of it.
'Almost immediately, I was overcome with emotion and I started to well up, so I was like, 'get it together', but then I turned around and looked at my drummer, and he was in floods of tears.
'It was weird, I knew it was going to be fine this time around. I had nerves and butterflies, but it wasn't the same as 2023 when I was so stressed and I knew something bad was going to happen. It was spectacular.'
Capaldi was speaking as part of the launch of Apple Music's Music That Soothes Me series of curated playlists, with the singer himself putting together a track list including the likes of Fontaines DC, Lana Del Rey and The 1975.
The series, which features music intended to help listeners relax and unwind, also features playlists curated by Renee Rapp and Bring Me The Horizon.
Speaking about how he relaxes, the Scottish singer said: 'I use music in meditation a lot – ambient music, not what I usually listen to. But when I'm going to bed, I'll listen to a lot of green noise and rain noises, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep, to soothe me.
'Slowing down and being outside helps, I like meditation, and I also go to therapy, which has really helped me with stress.
'I'm not someone who enjoys going for long walks or spending a ton of time outside, but I force myself to do it these days because the effect it has on my mood and my stress levels is just mind-blowing.
'I think for a long time I was either working or going to the pub, and these days I spend a lot more time with friends in a way that isn't just going out.
'Doing wholesome things with friends is always a nice change. Get outside, go to therapy, do some meditation and hang out with people.'
The singer says he plays the 'older' work of rapper Eminem and his own demos to relax, joking that the latter 'really knocks me out'.
Capaldi recently said he had the 'most incredible, surreal feeling' after his 17-date UK and Ireland comeback tour sold out.
During the 2025 Glastonbury show, Capaldi performed his new track Survive, which has since gone to number one on the singles chart, and ended his performance with Someone You Loved, the track that Glastonbury crowds helped him to sing when he struggled with his Tourette symptoms in 2023.
Tourette syndrome causes sudden, repetitive sounds or movements and while there is no cure, treatment can help manage the tics, according to the NHS website.
Prior to the festival slot, the Glaswegian star performed a number of secret gigs and guest appearances, saying in an interview with online therapy platform BetterHelp that he felt a 'rush of adrenaline' before managing to calm himself before his first warm-up gig in Edinburgh.

Mathew Horne struggles to contain his emotions as he reveals Gavin And Stacey crew member died suddenly

Gavin and Stacey actor Mathew Horne struggled to contain his emotions after revealing a member of the crew - who has not been pictured - had suddenly passed away. The actor, who played Gavin Shipman in the BBC hit show, was being interviewed on stage at his 'In Conversation With...' show in Taunton, Somerset. According to The Sun, Mathew was talking about how the cast were all still chatting to each other on a Whatsapp group, when he became emotional. He said: 'Sorry. I got distracted. Earlier on... we had a driver on the finale called Rob and he was in his early 40s... and I found out via the Whatsapp group earlier that he has passed away and I got slightly distracted there. 'It's really really sad. I got distracted by losing Rob. He was a really lovely guy and he's left a four year old behind and that is really really really sad.' He went on to tell the crowd how all the cast and crew had become close after working together for almost two decades. He said: 'In 2019 before the Christmas special - part one of the finale if you like - aired, I lost my mother and Alison [Stedman, who played his onscreen mother Pam], really stepped up and she became my surrogate mother off screen as well. 'Whenever she texts me even now she signs it "Mum". And that is cool. That is so beautiful. And she says "How are you, my little prince?' It means the world to me."'

Eerie demise of Noel Edmonds' 90s theme park left to decay with graffiti-covered rides after opening for only 13 weeks

NOEL Edmonds jetted to New Zealand to invest £15million in property and start a new life down under. Fans are hoping that his new business ventures are more successful than his Blobbyland theme park, which closed after just 13 weeks. 8 The park in Cricket St Thomas, in Somerset, was based on the BBC's hit show Noel's House Party, and first opened in 1994. Blobbyland welcomed 650,000 guests, making it even more popular than Buckingham Place, which welcomed 200,000 fewer visitors in the same year. Inside was a mocked-up high street with a Blobby store, but the crown jewel of the resort was Mr Blobby's house. It was named Dunblobbin and was painted bright pink with yellow spots and had a blue roof. Locals often complained of a loud doorbell that could be heard for miles - which rang through their houses every time someone visited the little pink home. But the noise didn't bother guests as young fans went mad for its quirky look, which included a giant stuffed Blobby dog kipping on the ground. When visitors roamed in they were met with a view of a cake-only dinner that the fictional character and his family ate for tea. The entertainment show ran for eight years between November 1991 and March 1999, and Mr Blobby became a kids' craze. Although the bustling fantasy-fueled land attracted thousands of fans, it didn't last long. According to DorsetLive, when the area was re-discovered by urban explorers in 2009 it rekindled the public's interest, and soon groups of people started trying to break into the forgotten den. As a result, the land's owners blocked an access tunnel and had the remains demolished in 2014. Noel, 76, returning to TV screens to document his new life in New Zealand in June - but insisted the ITV show will be nothing like Clarkson's Farm — because he's not as funny as the former Top Gear star. Noel exclusively told The Sun: 'When we were filming our show, some people who knew about Clarkson's Farm said to me, 'Oh, is it like Clarkson's Farm?' 'And I said, 'No, it couldn't be more different.' First of all, I'm not like Jeremy in many ways, though I wish I were. "He's brilliant. He can articulate an argument beautifully and deliver a sharp, humorous line like no one else.' Noel went on to crack a joke about his years in the showbiz wilderness. His last big gig was on I'm A Celebrity in 2018, when he was voted out after only nine days. Noel laughed: 'People still ask, 'Noel Edmonds? Didn't he die? Is he still around?' 'Yes, I'm still here — and living life to the full.' You can stream all the episodes of Noel Edmonds' Kiwi Adventure on ITVX. 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
