City Civil and Sessions Court Judge Madhu N R passed an interim order in a suit filed by the Kannada Sahitya Parishattu and its President, Nadoja Dr Mahesh Joshi, Live Law reported. An ex-parte injunction is a temporary court order granted without hearing the opposing party. The plaintiffs contended that Haasan's statement has caused immense pain and anguish to Kannadigas. Haasan's remark that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil" sparked anger in Karnataka, leading to a ban on his film Thug Life, which hit theatres on June 5 in other parts of the country. During a promotional event for 'Thug Life", Haasan said: 'You are my family that is residing in Karnataka, and hence, you came all the way here. When I started the speech, I said that my life and my family are Tamil. Your language was born out of Tamil, and hence you are part of it," said Kamal Haasan to Shiva Rajkumar. Later, Haasan defended his remark, saying that he said it out of love and that a lot of historians have taught him the history of languages. First Published: July 04, 2025, 21:05 IST
