Former Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman joins Madden NFL's 99 overall club
Then on Monday, Johnson found out that he is a member of EA Sports and Madden NFL's 99 overall club. The members of the club are players who earned a 99 overall rating in EA Sports' Madden NFL video game series, the highest overall rating a player can attain.
Johnson will be a 99 overall in "Madden NFL 26" after receiving the news from fellow Eagle Saquon Barkley. He's been holding it down at right tackle in Philadelphia for over a decade, also helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LII following the 2017 season.
Johnson began his college football career at Kilgore College, a junior college in East Texas, in 2008. He transferred to Oklahoma in 2009 and spent the next four years with the Sooners. Over his five collegiate seasons, Johnson played quarterback, tight end, defensive end, and finally, offensive lineman.
During the 2011 season at OU, Johnson made the switch from defensive end to offensive tackle due to injuries to o-line starters that year in fall camp. He impressed coaches with his natural ability to play the position. He wound up starting 12 games at right tackle that season and 11 games at left tackle the next year as a senior in 2012. He protected quarterback Landry Jones, opened up holes in the "Belldozer" formation with quarterback Blake Bell, and was a third-team All-American after his last season.
Johnson has been with the Eagles for his entire career, after they drafted him fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has switched back to right tackle and is one of the league's most dominant forces on the offensive line. He's now the elder statesmen on a Philly team that looks to go back-to-back in 2025, with Johnson playing a pivotal role in the team's success.

'He's done it all': 2027 4-star QB commit explains why he committed to Texas A&M
Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class started things off with a bang after landing the first commitment in the class, four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, whose elite arm talent makes him a likely five-star prospect by this time next year. Under second-year OC Collin Klein, Texas A&M has become a destination for top quarterback prospects after landing 2026 4-star Helaman Casuga. This season, redshirt sophomore Marcel Reed enters the year as the starter after trading starts with Conner Weigman last season, and after the former five-star prospect transferred to Houston this offseason, Reed's future as the starter is set in stone. While he's expected to return in 2026, current backup Miles O'Neill and Casuga look like the immediate options if he were to leave the program. Looking ahead, Jayce Johnson is not your run of the mill quarterback prospect who lacks at least one or more traits, as the Georgia native possesses a live arm, and is already one of the more accurate passers in the class. After one or two seasons with the Aggies, he is destined to compete for the starting job. After his commitment on Sunday, Johnson spoke to 247Sports' Tom Loy, discussing his decision, choosing the Aggies over Tennessee, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Florida State. "I'm headed to Texas A&M. It's the place for me because the coaching staff is very loyal. They have been there since early in my recruitment. They have shown so much love. Also, the environment around the campus is exactly what I'm looking for. It's like what I'm living in now." Culture has been the winning factor on the recruiting trail for Mike Elko and his staff, developing strong and lasting bonds with every one of the 27 commits in the 2026 cycle, which has continued to win over elite prospects like Johnson. While he reportedly made up his mind during his last unofficial visit to College Station, his relationship with Collin Klein likely sealed the deal this early in the process. "I have known him since I was young. He's been through everything I want to do. He's done it all. He's been there and done that. The way he coaches, I went out there for a spring practice, and he takes so much pride in what he does. He's a family guy. I love that about him as well." Johnson's firm commitment to Texas A&M could result in more momentum this fall, as the standout signal caller further stated that several of his 2027 recruiting peers want to play with him at the next level, including a rising four-star wide receiver out of Florida. Elite FSU quarterback target commits to SEC program
The Florida State Seminoles were hoping to land the quarterback of their 2027 recruiting class on Sunday, but they were unable to make it happen. Jayce Johnson, a four-star prospect from Valdosta, Georgia, committed to the Texas A&M Aggies instead. He was one of their top quarterbacks in the cycle and someone they have heavily pursued since offering him a scholarship in October of 2024. He has visited multiple times this year and was one of the top localish prospects in the 2027 cycle. He is ranked as the No. 61 overall player and No. 3 quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 8 player from Georgia. Johnson had a productive sophomore season for Lowndes High School, leading them to a 10-2 record. Johnson completed 67.2% (123-183) of his passes for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry. The good news for FSU is that they have plenty of time to add a quarterback to their 2027 recruiting class. Their pursuit of Johnson might not be over either, they have shown the ability to flip blue-chip quarterbacks, doing so in the last two cycles. Two day after saying it's important to show up for team stretch, Tyreek Hill misses it
The more Tyreek Hill insists he is changing, the more he stays the same. He was late for practice on Sunday. Even though timeliness is supposedly one of the key aspects of the culture change that the Dolphins swear they're implementing this year. In fairness, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald explains that Tyreek wasn't late for the actual start of practice. Kelly said Hill missed the team stretch, which is something he has (per Kelly) 'rarely attended, and that includes his 2 1,700 yard seasons.' Frankly, that observation from Omar was almost enough to get me to pass on pointing out Tyreek's tardiness. But then I skimmed the transcript of his most recent press conference, from Friday, August 1. A reporter asked this: 'We've seen you make a considerate effort to be out here at the start of stretch. Is that intentional? Is that part of that same thing of holding yourself accountable?' Said Hill, 'Yeah, I think it's very important because football is a team sport. I think whenever guys are able to see me come out here and stretch with them, it just keeps the engine rolling with the whole team. It is important. The one day I did miss, I was just dropping the kids off to the pool. Besides that, I'm out here every day, dawg.' He wasn't out there today, dawg. And that has nothing to do with his ability to generate 1,700-yard seasons. It has everything to do with the Dolphins trying to become the kind of football team they desperately need to be. Hill showing up late brings back into focus the core question of whether he has changed from the guy who, after a frustrating 2024 season, said he wants out of Miami. Ignore the Super Bowl radio-row apology tour. Watch his actions. Beyond whether he's showing up on time for the 'very important' act of participating in the team stretch is whether he'll act up if/when the Dolphins are 1-4 and/or he only got a handful of targets in a game during which he was, in his view, open on every play. Once June 1 came and went, we wondered whether a team would make the Dolphins an offer for Hill. With the trade deadline now the Tuesday after Week 9, any early-season struggles by the Dolphins and/or discontent from Hill could become the two key ingredients for a true contender to try to make a trade. If said contender believes the positive of Hill's talent outweigh the negatives of, well, pretty much everything else.
