BTS announced their plans to enlist in 2022. Jin, the first member of the group, was discharged in June 2024. Now, Suga's time in service is almost complete.
Suga, a member of BTS, is nearing his military discharge date, which is set for June 21. His enlistment is part of South Korea's mandatory military service, which all able-bodied men must complete before turning 28. As BTS prepared to enlist, there was much speculation about how the group would handle the situation, and the South Korean government even conducted a poll asking citizens what they thought should be done.
But BTS made their decision and announced their plans to enlist in 2022. Jin, the first member of the group, was discharged in June 2024. Now, Suga's time in service is almost complete. Ahead of Suga's military discharge, let's take a look at his journey.
Suga, born Min Yoon-Gi, grew up in Daegu, South Korea's third-largest city. His love for hip-hop began at a young age when he heard South Korean rappers Epik High and Stony Skunk. Before joining BTS, Suga was part of the underground rap scene and performed with a group called D-Town (Daegu-Town) under the name Gloss.
Suga initially joined Big Hit Entertainment as a music producer. Along with BTS members RM and J-Hope, he trained under the company for three years. In 2013, Suga debuted with BTS and performed their track No More Dream on Mnet's M Countdown. Over the years, Suga has written, produced and composed numerous tracks for BTS.
The K-pop idol has made his mark as a solo artist under the name Agust D. His mixtapes Agust D (2016) and D-2 (2020) were critically acclaimed. In April 2023, he released his first full solo album, D-Day. He has written for and collaborated with other artists like Suran, for whom he wrote the track Wine which won Best Soul/R&B track at the 2017 Melon Music Awards.
Suga is known for his contributions to various charitable causes. According to Tatler Asia, over the years, he has donated to organisations such as the Korean Paediatric Cancer Foundation, Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital and the Hope Bridge Association for National Disaster Relief.
Despite his fame, Suga has been open about the difficulties he faced in his early years, especially during his trainee period. In the Burn the Stage documentary series, he shared how tough it was mentally and financially. The rapper said that he used to buy lottery tickets in hopes of winning each week. He also opened up about how he would have to choose between taking the bus and eating.
Apart from his music career, Suga also has a passion for football. In fact, he was named as a brand-new NBA Ambassador for the 2022/23 season. His stage name, Suga, is actually inspired by his love for basketball. When he played as a shooting guard on his team, he opted to merge the first syllable of each word to form SUGA.

Shruti Haasan Calls 3 ‘Worse Than Heartbreak', Says It'd Trend Beyond Kolaveri Di Today

Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 2012 debut "3" is a cult classic known for "Why This Kolaveri Di." Shruti Haasan feels its take on love and mental health would resonate more today. Over a decade since its release, Aishwarya Rajinikanth's directorial debut 3 is still a cult classic, not just for its viral song Why This Kolaveri Di, but also for its layered take on love and mental health. Actor Shruti Haasan, who starred alongside Dhanush in the 2012 psychological drama, believes the film was ahead of its time and would have resonated more deeply with audiences today. Speaking in a recent interview with Prema, Shruti opened up about how much the project meant to her, and the emotional weight of seeing it underappreciated during its initial release. 'Regret I have is when some films I know are very special. And I know I gave a part of myself. And when they don't work, it's worse than heartbreak. But in general, I am not a regretful person," she said. When asked to name the films she had in mind, Shruti didn't hesitate to mention 3. 'I wish 3 was a more commercial success. Now, everybody talks of pan-Indian films. But even back then, it had to be dubbed in Hindi; there was no OTT. I feel like if that film were released now, it would've been a rage. Much bigger than just the Kolaveri song," she explained. She also mentioned D-Day as another film she wished had reached a wider audience. Released in 2012, 3 followed the story of Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruti), a couple whose seemingly perfect love story takes a tragic turn when Ram is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The film was praised for its emotional depth but struggled to find box office success despite the overwhelming popularity of its soundtrack. Why This Kolaveri Di?, composed by a then-debutant Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Dhanush, became an internet sensation in 2011. It crossed millions of views within days, even earning a nod from then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who invited Dhanush as a guest to Delhi. Meanwhile, Dhanush is gearing up for Idly Kadai and Tere Ishk Mein, while Shruti will next be seen in Coolie and Train. Bengalurus Skid Game: Journalists Turn Potholes Into Satirical Survival Challenge, Video Goes Viral

In a bold and satirical show of protest against the decaying city infrastructure, some Bengaluru residents and reporters organised a "Squid Game"-style protest on Thursday, July 24, outside St. John's Hospital. The novel act was designed to raise attention about the dangerous state of footpaths and roads, a recurring civic problem in India's tech hub. The protesters, clad in the green tracksuits sported in Netflix hit South Korean series Squid Game, were featured in a now-viral video on X (formerly Twitter). The video depicts them trekking on a broken pavement filled with deep holes of potholes, uneven floors, exposed cables, and open sewerage, recreating the survival tests on the show. One of the sights in the video is a participant slipping and almost falling into a pothole. The caption in the video joked, "It's Skid game for Namma Bengaluru Journalists." Its Skid game for Namma Bengaluru Journalists! @BBMPCOMM #foootpath #stjohnshospital @anusharavi10 @Ananthaforu @path2shah @Prakash94805561 — baadal nanjundaswamy (@baadalvirus) July 24, 2025 The demonstration was an innovative attempt at raising awareness about the dangers pedestrians face, especially in one of Bengaluru's most crowded parts. The theme of Squid Game struck a chord in many, representing the everyday battle residents experience as a result of neglected public infrastructure. The clip rapidly became viral, garnering every kind of reaction available on the internet. Though plenty thought the protest was "hilarious," with some hoping for the Squid Game theme song in the background, numerous users were annoyed and critical of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for its perceived inability to keep city roads and pavements in working order. Such remarks as "Skip jump and skid game" and "Bangalore is the worst city to live in. We need a lot of work to be done to make it world class" reflected the widespread underlying grudges. On the other hand, most users praised the protestors for their creative method. "Bravo Bengaluru's footpaths are a mess and the roads are full of potholes — the situation is terrible. Respect to all the volunteers who took this different approach to highlight the issues to BBMP. Hopefully, BBMP takes action and fixes them now," one appreciative user wrote. This Squid Game-inspired protest is only the latest such instance of Bengaluru residents adopting unusual methods to flag civic indifference. Last year, there was a similar incident in which residents in the Jayanagar neighborhood conducted a "pothole puja" (worship) to one particularly problematic pothole on Varamahalakshmi Vratham day, leaving flower petals, turmeric, and kumkum in a satirical appeal for repairs. The ongoing worsening of road and footpath conditions continues to be a priority concern for the people of Bengaluru, who hope that these innovative, if unvarnished, protests will at last elicit meaningful action from civic officials.
