Inside the Pontefract film studios where Adolescence was made
Stood in an empty and echoey 14,500 sq ft (1,350 sq m) room as tall as a four-storey building, it is hard to imagine some of the most intimate scenes in Adolescence were filmed in what is known as Studio 005.Crews spent six weeks here building key sets, including the police station and young offenders institute."We know how much detail and attention went into the production. We saw it first-hand," says Production Park's head of external affairs, Jim Farmery."Me and my colleagues would walk around with the artistic director and get lost - we were transported into a completely different space," adds the facility's head of production services, Richard Blair.Mr Blair says real police stations and hospitals "tend to be quite difficult to film in", especially for extended periods of time."It makes it much more practical to come into a studio like ours."Adolescence was filmed at or near Production Park over six months between March and September 2024.
The show's producers, WARP Films, had "envisioned it being a northern production from the very beginning", says Mr Blair. The Sheffield-based company's previous projects include This is England, The Virtues and Everybody's Talking About Jamie - all set away from the capital."There's no reason why Yorkshire can't host these sort of productions," says Mr Farmery, who reveals other production companies have expressed an interest in using Production Park since the release of Adolescence.
The school scenes in Adolescence were filmed at Minsthorpe Community College, just a five-minute drive from Production Park, while a nearby suburban setting was used to shoot the opening scene, which sees a 13-year-old boy arrested for the fatal stabbing of a teenage girl.Young couple Dylan Naylor and Bethany Fletcher's 1960s semi-detached home in South Kirkby stood in for the house where Graham's character Eddie Miller lives. They moved out with their children for three months for filming to take place after they responded to a letter of interest posted through their door."Everything needed to be within a 10-minute drive of Production Park to facilitate the one-shot approach," says Mr Blair."It makes it feel so much more engaging and like you are in the room with them," he adds.
As well as TV and film production, some of the biggest names in music - including Beyoncé, Pink and Coldplay - have prepared for world tours at Production Park. The 30-acre (121,400 sq m) site hosts six adaptable studios to allow for stages to be built, rehearsals to take place, lighting and sound checks and more."They treat it as if they are going to an arena," says one of the 500 staff working at what their colleague describes as a "production ecosystem".It also plays host to about 200 students undertaking courses related to the live entertainment industry.
Staff claim the rigging system on the ceiling of Studio 005 is so big it could hold a Boeing 747 aeroplane, meaning even the most ambitious productions can be supported on this industrial estate in a quiet corner of West Yorkshire.Classic theatre productions including Les Misérables and Wicked have also come to life here, while a life-size boat was built in another studio to recreate a vessel at sea as part of filming for the 2023 show Boat Story.Elsewhere on site, a state-of-the art LED screen can display different environments - from kitchens to snow-topped mountains - to create and extend scenes, providing a variety of different backdrops for productions and reducing their carbon footprint by cutting down on the amount of travel needed for filming.
"The possibilities in here are kind of endless," says Mr Blair."It's exciting to see what happens next.""The missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle had been a large-scale drama," adds Mr Farmery"We are really, really proud of Adolescence. To help make a production like that was fantastic."

Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley's 'real reason' for shock split after 13 years of marriage
This Morning presenter Cat Deeley and The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty have announced their shock split after 13 years of marriage in a joint statement On Tuesday, TV stars Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty shocked fans by announcing their split after more than a decade of marriage in a bombshell statement. Now, insiders have revealed the 'real reason' behind the former couple's seemingly sudden split after 13-years of marriage. Patrick, 54, and Cat, 48, sent shockwaves when they confirmed their split joint statement to the PA news agency. Their statement read: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.' The former couple met while hosting BBC 's Fame Academy together in 2002, but it wasn't until 2011 that they finally decided to take their friendship to a romantic level. The two wed a year later in September 2012 at a ceremony in Rome and have two children, Milo, 9, and James, 6, together. Following their shock split, insiders have now claimed that their equally busy work schedules got in the way and drove a wedge between their marriage. Cat has hosted ITV 's This Morning alongside Ben Shephard since early last year, and previously lived in Los Angeles for more than 10 years. Meanwhile, Northern Irish presenter Patrick is the host of RTE talk show The Late Late Show, having taken over from Ryan Tubridy in 2023. Despite living in the UK, Patrick would travel to Dublin every week to present the show from the RTE studios. Due to their clashing schedules, it became difficult for Patrick and Cat to spend quality time together, according to insiders. Shedding light on the apparent reason behind their marriage split, the source said: "It is such sad news. They were so happy after they moved back to London, and would talk about their grand plans to renovate the house for the family. "But sadly, as so often happens with relationships, work got in the way and it put a huge strain on the marriage." The insider told Mail Online: "When Cat took the This Morning job in 2024, they were becoming more and more like ships in the night. "Patrick, in particular, has been spending more time in his native Dundrum where he has had a home for 25 years. His aunt died on Christmas Eve, and his mother's health was up and down before her death in March. His brothers John and Cahal have been such a comfort to him." The sad news of their split comes following concerns from fans that the couple would struggle with their different schedules when Cat and co-host Ben Shephard took over from Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on ITV's This Morning. It has even been claimed that Cat and Patrick were living separate lives before their shock split was announced on Tuesday. However, Patrick previously hit back at the idea that the TV stars were struggling to spend time together, insisting they had developed a routine that worked for them and their two sons. When asked by The Times if the couple were like "ships passing in the night", Patrick denied this 'because Cat's doing her stuff in the morning, she would normally be back just after lunchtime". The comedian added: 'And we've got the start of the week and the weekends together, so it's not 'Hi/bye'.' Despite providing a positive outlook on the situation during the interview, Patrick also acknowledged that the couple went through a "tricky" period when Cat had to film So You Think You Can Dance in the US for seven weeks. He recalled: 'There was a moment after Christmas that was tricky, when Cat's show [So You Think You Can Dance] came back in America, and she had to fly to Atlanta for seven weeks. "There was a wee bit of a juggle there. But I think with all these things, as long as you have a routine, it doesn't take as much fizz out of you as some people think.' However, just a couple months on from Patrick's comments, he and Cat announced their separation. Prior to their unexpected announcement, the couple had moved their family from Los Angeles to London in 2023, and Patrick was commuting to his job on The Late Late Show. It came after living in the States for 15 years. They hadn't been pictured together in public for over a year, however, and Cat also missed Patrick's mother's funeral in March. At the time, a spokesperson told the Mirror that Cat had remained at home to care for their sons, explaining: "Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day." The Mirror has approached Patrick and Cat's respective representatives for comment on this story.

EastEnders confirms new romance in early iPlayer release as passion erupts
George has potentially found someone else… (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) This article contains spoilers for tonight's episode of EastEnders, which airs on BBC One at 7.30pm or can be streamed now on iPlayer. George Knight (Colin Salmon) has moved on from wife Elaine (Harriet Thorpe) – with an unlikely local. The two separated earlier this year, when she believed he'd been unfaithful at Christmas with his ex-wife Sabrina. Son Junior (Micah Balfour) dropped the revelation out of the blue, with no real motive to expose his father other than wanting Elaine to know what he'd done. She was enraged to hear that Sabrina had tried to kiss him, and George didn't exactly make things better when he turned to his other ex-wife, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), for a shoulder to cry on. Elaine contacted old mate Drew Peacock (Paul Clayton) for a pep talk, and when he told her to take consideration of her own self-worth, she made the brutal decision to sleep with a stranger she'd just met moments before. Guilt-ridden, she couldn't keep quiet any longer and confessed all to George. His attempts at making amends and apologising fell flat, as she wasn't willing to take half of the blame. In the aftermath, his world has dropped apart. He's lost his home and job at The Queen Vic after the boozer was sold to Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace), and he's had to move in with brother Kojo Asare (Dayo Koleosho). He separated from wife Elaine earlier in the year (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) George came dangerously close to discovering Harry's secret (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) Little does he realise, Kojo has become entwined in his housemate Harry Mitchell's (Elijah Holloway) drug dealing, after flushing a stash down the loo. Harry has been forced into selling the narcotics for Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), as the original lot belonged to him. To make matters worse, Ravi and his associate Okie (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu) have begun to use Kojo's flat as a base for their operations – and in today's instalment, which can be streamed now, George came dangerously close to finding out. He'd announced his intention to leave the flat and move in with best mate Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), but by the time Harry showed up to prepare for Okie's arrival, George still hadn't vacated the property. It didn't take long for Nicola to seduce him! (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) Follow Metro Soaps on WhatsApp and get all the latest spoilers first! Thinking fast, Harry told him that his mum Nicola (Laura Doddington) was holding interviews for a new bar manager at her nightclub, and that he should head down and apply. Upon arrival at Harry's Barn, he discovered that Nic' was actually searching for a bouncer, something which George wasn't interested in. She knew that she had to buy time, and after offering him a drink and having a heart to heart about recent events, seduced him! George couldn't resist her temptations, and it wasn't long before they were tearing one another's clothes off. Is this the start of a new relationship? 'Best crime thriller of 2025' gets season 2 on Netflix after 26,100,000 views
Kyle Turner will be back! (Picture: Ricardo Hubbs/Netflix) A new smash Netflix series has been renewed for a second season after dominating the global streaming charts. Untamed saw Eric Bana lead an all-star cast alongside Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, Wilson Bethel and William Smillie. The six-part drama follows Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service, as he takes on an investigation into a brutal death. However, the incident sends him 'on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past'. Many made their way through the episodes at warp speed, and, unsurprisingly, the show went on to top the global charts on Netflix with 26.1million views, and 127.1m hours watched. Netflix has now confirmed the thrilling procedural will be back for a second season, sharing the news on their official X account. Metro branded it the best crime thriller of 2025 so far in a glowing five star review. Although there is currently no news on how the Untamed story will continue, after the first season wrapped up fairly neatly, we've had some insight to tell us the setting likely won't be Yosemite. Shedding light on what more episodes could possibly involve, co-showrunner Elle Smith told TV Insider: 'If we got the opportunity to do it again, it would be getting to explore a different park, a different case. 'We would do this forever if they let us, but we'll see. We'll see how many adventures Turner has left in him.' Metro's thoughts on Untamed Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take… Created by Elle Smith and Mark L Smith (The Revenant scribe, so no stranger to conjuring an unforgiving setting), Untamed at first glance looks like another bog-standard police procedural. But what puts it head and shoulders above any of the crime thrillers Netflix has offered up so far this year – and more in the leagues of Broadchurch or Mare of Easttown – is the inventive setting, with a cast singing in perfect harmony. It's no easy task Kyle Turner is up against. Trying to enforce the rule of law on this wilderness is a fool's errand. CCTV is thin on the ground and the forensic experts called in are the type who specialise in vultures that pick over human remains. As the twists and turns take shape, bringing into question unsolved cases from years gone by, Untamed becomes a show you will struggle to look away from. You will gasp. You will sweat. Good thing there's already more on the way. He was joined in the cast by a string of huge names, including Lily Santiago (Picture: Netflix) The series has topped Netflix charts around the world (Picture: Netflix) Heaping praise on Untamed, Linda R commented: 'Fast paced with startling turns of event. Well cast with believable portrayals of individual characters while still maintaining a 'Hollywood pretty' aesthetic. Yosemite is stunning. 'I hope there's another season; get your friends and family to watch. It will be time well spent!' 'This was a wild ride, and I was immediately drawn into it from episode one to an unexpected streaming binge that I am so glad I decided to dive in and go with flow on,' Sai M said. 'This is a fantastic series with great actors and a compelling storyline paired with breathtaking scenery, and shockingly unexpected twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!' 'Pretty good miniseries. Binged in one sitting,' John M commended. As Chief M added: 'This isn't super original, but it's a really decent mystery. The story is pretty tight and logical. Good solid acting and the scenery is gorgeous. The first scene of the show had my pulse racing.' A version of this article was originally published on July 24. Untamed is available to stream on Netflix now. Got a story?
