Good Morning Britain's Ranvir Singh was 'terrified' after her drink was spiked and left unable to walk
Ranvir Singh opened up on a terrifying experience she endured years ago on Tuesday morning's Good Morning Britain. The TV presenter spoke about a drink spiking incident that left her physically and mentally incapacitated, with no recollection of how she got home.
Ranvir's admission comes as Susanna Reid and Ed Balls interviewed spiking survivor Rachel Ovens and campaigner Ashley James on the programme about the alarming rise in such attacks.
Inspired by Rachel's courage, Ranvir recounted her own frightening ordeal that unfolded while she was working in Manchester over a decade ago, writes The Mirror.
Ranvir recalled: 'It was about 7.30pm, my very first drink. I had arrived early - I think it was for a work event, though I honestly can't remember exactly why I was there.'
Sitting alone at the bar, she ordered a glass of wine, sipping half or three-quarters of it before deciding to quickly go to the bathroom.
'The loos were down the stairs,' she explained, 'but even before I got there, everything started to swim.'
The 47-year-old described the terrifying loss of control that night, and explained that her legs turned to jelly.
She said: 'My legs just gave way beneath me, and I found myself going downstairs.'
By the time she returned to the main floor, she was disoriented and alarmed, unable to hear properly.
'I couldn't hear anything at all,' she said. 'I looked down at the bar and thought, 'I can't go back down there,' so I just left.'
What happened next is a blank spot in her memory. 'I can't remember that evening. I can't even recall getting home,' she admitted, her tone heavy with the weight of the unknown.
Concerned Susanna went on to ask if Ranvir had reported the incident to the police at the time.
'I didn't,' Ranvir replied. 'This was around 12 or 13 years ago. Back then, it didn't even occur to me to report it.'
Highlighting how widespread this issue is, Ranvir shared with viewers that she's not the only person in the room it happened to.
She said: 'Just now, while we were talking about it, my female producer - who's right there in the gallery said it happened to her too.'
She shook her head, amazed and saddened by the frequency of such attacks. 'It's incredible how common it really is.'
Prevalence of spiking is continuing to grow, with 11 per cent of UK adults report being spiked at any point in their lives. 9% of males report thinking they have ever been a victim of drink spiking and 13 per cent of females.

All the Pride parades happening across the UK this summer
Cities and towns across the UK will be taking it in turns to celebrate Pride this summer with dozens of parades and events planned over the coming months While June is officially Pride Month, many cities and towns will be hosting their Pride events and parades over the summer - and they can range from small-scale marches to huge affairs with celebrity performers. The Parade, set to start at 12pm and finish at 6pm, will run from Hyde Park Corner, through Piccadilly Circus, down to Trafalgar Square, before finishing at Whitehall Place. More than 500 groups will be taking part, making a total of 33,000 participants led by the Mayor of London. Bristol Bristol Pride will welcome more than 200 performers across five stages on The Downs, including Allie X, Kim Wilde, Cascada, and Brooke Lynn Hytes on July 12th. The walking parade will meet at 10am from the Bandstand end of Castle Park before setting off at 10.45am. The two-mile route will take about an hour to complete and will end at the Amphitheatre. Glasgow Glasgow Pride will be held on the outdoor stage at Glasgow Barrowlands on July 19th and performers include Katie Price, Kelly Llorena, Subwoolfer and Karen Dunbar. It will be hosted by Bev Lyons and Miss Bella Houston and other acts set to perform are Roisin McCarney, Lee Cammy and Just the Brave. Parade participants are set to meet at Kelvingrove Park at 10am if part of a registered group, and 11am if not required to register. The parade will move through Glasgow City Centre down Sauchiehall Street, through the Merchant City, and towards Barrowland Park. Brighton Brighton Pride welcomes more than 300,000 people to the city's streets for the Parade which will take place on Saturday August 2nd and the theme will be 'Ravishing Rage'. There will also be the Pride on the Park event, supported by Hayu, on August 2nd and 3rd with performances from Mariah Carey, Sugababes, Fatboy Slim, Confidence Man, Loreen, Will Young, Natalie Imbruglia, Ashnikko, Slater, Sister Sledge, and Ultra Nate, among others. The Pride Street Party will also take place on the weekend with multiple stages and areas as well as bars and food. Artists performing include Danny Beard, Sonia, Freemasons, Tayce, Jaguar, Chico, and more. Manchester Manchester Pride is held between August 15th and 25th this year and will feature a host of events including Mardi Gras, Gay Village Party, Candlelit Vigil, The Rally, Superbia, Family Pride MCR, and Youth Pride MCR. The parade will be on August 23rd and is set to start at midday. The exact route is yet to be announced, but it will weave its way through the city centre and typically runs all afternoon. 'I was a London tour guide for a historic killer - I was screamed and spat at'
A former Jack the Ripper tour guide has admitted she felt "uncomfortable" when tourists brought small children, or even dressed up, as the infamous killer A former London tour guide for Jack the Ripper has revealed the harrowing moment she decided to quit after she came face-to-face with a sex worker. Jessica O'Neil was studying a master's in Heritage Studies at university in 2014 when she saw a job advertisement to be an evening tour guide, where a two-hour private tour costs £195, and a three-hour tour, £275. With the ability to combine her academic pursuits with a part-time job, she jumped at the opportunity. She would lead tourists ranging from "10-40" people through the creepy streets of London, recounting the horrendous tales for entertainment. She would share infamous stories of Jack the Ripper, who was the unidentified murderer who horrifically killed at least five women, predominantly sex workers, in Whitechapel during the autumn of 1888. While the exact number of his victims remains unconfirmed, there are five he killed, including Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. Jessica would retell stories she had read about Jack the Ripper in front of crowds. However, she felt "uncomfortable" when tourists brought small children, or even dressed up, as the killer. But there was one night that prompted Jessica to stop conducting the popular Jack the Ripper tours. She was recounting the death of Polly Nichols to tourists, based on what she had read, when she was abruptly yelled at and accused of "misrepresenting" Polly as a sex worker. Jessica told The Mirror: "I vividly remember standing on what remains of Flower and Dean Street, once home to London's most notorious lodging houses, regaling a group of tourists about the death of poor Polly Nichols. I was misrepresenting her as a sex worker, as that is what I had always been told and had read – though all evidence actually points to her scraping by with odd jobs and sleeping outdoors some nights. "A survival-level sex worker approached my group and began to scream. "You don't care about real women. My friends get murdered and none of you care. But you come here for Jack the Ripper." Some in the group began to get defensive, but I paused and told them – 'she's right." I went back later that night to look for her. "Maybe I wanted to explain that my tour was different – even though it really wasn't – and have her absolve me of the creeping guilt I felt every time I told punters about the horrible things that happened to these women." Jessica, who has made a name for herself on YouTube as " The Museum Guide" with nearly 90,000 followers, now offers guided tours of museums and curiosities, leaving her Jack the Ripper-focused days in the past. The founder of 'The Museum Guide', has shifted her focus to learning about the lives of women rather than dwelling on "speculate about a pathetic loser." She said: "I personally prefer to learn about the women's lives and their histories rather than speculate about a pathetic loser who had to kill women to achieve any kind of notoriety."

Woman airlifted to hospital after being mauled by lion at zoo
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was flown to hospital with a 'significant arm injury', following he attack the zoo has announced it will be closed for the remained of today A woman has reportedly been airlifted to hospital after she had her arm ripped off following a horrific lion attack at a zoo. The woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, was reportedly mauled at Darling Downs Zoo near Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, at around 8.23am on Sunday, July 6. The woman was flown to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital with a 'significant arm injury'. In the early hours of this morning he zoo posted on Facebook: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the zoo will be closed all day today. One prerson commented: "Wishing the handler a speedy recovery," another said: "Sorry to hear. Hope the staff member recovers and the zoo continues to do the amazing work it does." No further information on the injured woman or her condition has been released as of yet. Darling Downs Zoo's managing director Steve Robinson has been keeping African Lions, and managing their husbandry and welfare, for nearly 50 years. With his wife, Stephanie, they began breeding lions in 1997. In 2002 they moved their animal collection to the Darling Downs and started building the Darling Downs Zoo. The zoo has tawny lions and rare white lions, as well as two lion cubs. The zoo also homes other big cat species like Sumatran tigers, cheetahs and leopards.
