SC closes PFI' leaders' interim bail case after State agrees to provide physio in Tihar

New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday closed the plea filed by Popular Front of India (PFI) leader and UAPA accused AS Ismail seeking interim bail on medical grounds, after noting the State authorities' assurance that physiotherapy facilities are available in Tihar Jail and will be provided to him as per medical advice.
The bench had earlier rejected Ismail's interim bail request and sought a response from the State on whether adequate medical care could be ensured within the jail premises.
Senior counsel Archana Pathak Dave appearing for the State authorities (Delhi government) informed a bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh that physiotherapy as sought by Ismail is available in Tihar jail one and if so required by the petitioner, the same can be provided in Tihar jail three as well, depending on the medical advice of an authorized doctor.
After noting the same, the bench disposed of the matter.
In the last hearing, the top court had refused to grant interim bail to Ismail over medical grounds and had asked the Tihar Jail authorities whether he could be provided physiotherapy inside the jail.
Ismail had moved a plea seeking interim bail on medical grounds.
He has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the UAPA for allegedly radicalising Muslim youth and inciting them against the Indian government and other organisations that do not support the establishment of Islamic rule in India. Ismail was earlier associated with the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), served as PFI's Tamil Nadu president, and later became a member of its National Executive Council.
After satisfying itself of the submissions in today's hearing, the Court closed the matter. (ANI)

All political parties, including the BJP, participated and voiced their opinions,' he said. 'After the Congress government, did Prime Minister Vajpayee, during his six-year tenure, or Prime Minister Modi, during his 11-year rule, ever hold talks with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister about reclaiming Katchatheevu? If Katchatheevu was truly the root cause of the fishermen's problems, the Indian government should have raised this with Sri Lanka,' Mr. Selvaperunthagai added. He said: 'Tamil Nadu fishermen are not arrested near Katchatheevu. Instead, they are arrested when they unintentionally cross the maritime boundary into Sri Lankan waters, especially during nighttime fishing. Waziristan attack: MEA rejects Pakistan army claim; says 'statement deserves contempt'
NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Sunday dismissed claims made by the Pakistan Army blaming India for a deadly suicide bombing in North Waziristan, calling the statement 'deserving of contempt. ' In a response issued in the early hours of the day, the MEA said, 'We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack in Waziristan on 28 June. We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves.' MEA's response comes after at least 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed and more than two dozen people injured in a suicide bombing on Saturday. The incident occurred in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a military convoy. 'A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy,' a local government official was quoted as saying to news agency AFP. He confirmed the death toll had risen to 16 from an earlier count of 13. The official requested anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media. The blast also damaged nearby homes. Counterfeit racket accused held in Sitapur
Lucknow: The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) on Saturday arrested a fourth accused in connection with a counterfeit currency racket operating across multiple states. Wit this, all four identified members of the racket are now in custody. The latest arrest was made in Sitapur, where the ATS apprehended Anas Ahmad of Gandhinagar under Sidhauli police station. He was picked up from Ahmedpur Jat Road area and found in possession of fake Indian currency worth Rs 1.05 lakh. Seized materials included 22 forged Rs 500 notes, 94 fake Rs200 notes, 8 counterfeit Rs100 notes, and A4-sized thread paper sheets valued at Rs74,400. Anas confessed he received fake currency from Gajendra Yadav, alleged mastermind who was arrested from Hapur on Jun 27. Gajendra, of Baghpat and railway employee, was arrested along with his associate Siddharth Jha near Bhojpur Road in Hapur attempting to deliver Rs3.9 lakh in counterfeit currency. Raid at a rented flat in Dinesh Nagar Colony uncovered their printing hub, yielding sophisticated equipment including security paper and printers . TNN
