The religious conversion racket under investigation in Agra involved coordination with handlers based in Pakistan and used online platforms and gaming apps to influence youth, police said on Saturday.

According to Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the suspects allegedly introduced Islamic teachings and created doubts about Hinduism through sustained communication.
The case came to light after two sisters, aged 33 and 18, were reported missing from Agra. One of them had posted a photo on social media holding an AK-47.
This led to the arrest of 10 people from six states, followed by four more as the investigation progressed.
Some of the girls were reportedly influenced by Kashmiri women who were part of the network and criticised Hinduism while promoting Islam, reported Hindustan Times.
'We have interrogated 14 arrested individuals and spoken to the rescued girls. It was found that they were in contact with people in Pakistan, who spoke to them about Islam, and with some girls in Kashmir who reportedly influenced them to adopt the religion," Agra police commissioner Deepak Kumar said.
Police have identified Abdul Rehman, a Delhi resident who converted to Islam in 1990, and Ayesha from Goa as key figures in the operation.
The network allegedly targeted girls from several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. The rescued individuals were reportedly added to WhatsApp groups where ideological indoctrination continued.
Commissioner Kumar said the operation involved individuals with knowledge of the dark web and encrypted messaging platforms like Signal, which were used to evade detection.
He named two Pakistan-based individuals, Tanveer Ahmed and Sahil Adeem, as playing a key role in the ideological campaign. The case remains under investigation, with further leads being pursued.

3 killed as gunmen fire at protesters in Pakistans Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province
Peshawar, Jul 27 (PTI) Unknown gunmen fired at a gathering protesting against counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan's northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, leaving three dead and many injured, a top official said. A day earlier, a mortar strike claimed the life of a girl in the Zakha Khel area of the Khyber District, sparking the Sunday demonstration, during which locals placed the girl's body in front of the Momand Ghuz security checkpoint. Suhail Afridi, the special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, said three people died and eight were injured in the firing by terrorists on the demonstrators in the Tirah Valley. ‘Cleric' booked for derogatory remarks against Dimple Yadav
Lucknow: Lucknow police late on Sunday registered an FIR against orthodox Islamic cleric Maulana Sajid Rashidi for allegedly making objectionable, inflammatory, and misogynistic comments against senior Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav during his appearance on a television channel and public platforms. The complaint was lodged on Saturday by one Pravesh Yadav, a resident of Gomtinagar's Vikalp Khand. In his written complaint, Yadav alleged that Maulana Sajid made derogatory and indecent remarks on media forums that not only hurt the personal dignity of a woman but also appeared to be aimed at inciting religious and communal disharmony in society. DCP (East Zone) Shashank Singh said that an FIR against Maulana Sajid was registered under the sections of 79 (outraging modesty of women), 196 (promoting enmity between groups), 299 (outrage religious sentiments), 352 (intentional insult) of the BNS and section 67 of the Information Technology Act at Vibhutikhand police station. "Further investigation into the matter is underway," said the DCP (East). The radical cleric has been known for making controversial statements. Soon after Delhi assembly polls in Feb, the cleric had claimed in a video to have voted for BJP. Amit Malviya had then shared the video in a post on X, saying, "Sajid Rashidi of All India Imam Association says he voted for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election.
