UNC football lands big commitment over ACC program
The Tar Heels added to their 2026 recruiting class in a big way. Four-star wide receiver Keeyun Chapman committed to the Tar Heels on Thursday, picking UNC over Florida State in a big ACC recruiting battle. Chapman made his decision on Thursday afternoon, getting a total of 18 offers.

He took just two official visits, going to Florida State and North Carolina before making his decision. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Chapman hails out of Jackson, Alabama and also drew interest from Colorado, Arkansas, South Carolina and USC among others.
Chapman has a few connections to UNC, as well. His brother, Keegan, committed to UNC on Friday and his teammate, Jamarrion Gordon, committed to the Tar Heels last Wednesday.
The four-star recruit is ranked No. 188 nationally, the No. 28 wide receiver, and No. 11 player in the state of Alabama per 247Sports. He's the 30th player to commit to UNC's 2026 class and the highest-ranked player to do so. UNC class is now ranked No. 18 nationally.

Texas A&M is in a 'nice spot' to land the No. 1-ranked 2026 prospect in Iowa
Despite losing out on five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown and four-star edge KJ Ford this week, Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is in excellent shape. It is likely to land several priority prospects in the coming weeks. Outside of four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins and four-star safety Tylan Wilson, who are both predicted to land with Texas A&M, another recent visitor out of the Midwest has emerged. 2026 four-star tight end Evan Jacobson out of Waukee, Iowa, is considered the top prospect in the state and is also a standout basketball player with the intent to play both sports at the next level. Currently, Iowa State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M appear to be the programs with the best chance to land the versatile playmaker. However, given his desire also to play basketball, the Cyclones and the Aggies seem to be the frontrunners. This week, GigEm247's Andrew Hattersley provided an update on the remaining priority prospect in Texas A&M's 2026 cycle, including Jacobson, who took his official visit to College Station on June 5, followed by OVs to Notre Dame (June 12) and Iowa state (June 17) to finish out his summer tour. Iowa State getting the final visit is telling, but remember that he is less than 30 minutes from Ames (IA). Hattersley notes in his update that Jacobson is looking to announce his commitment later this month, and that the Aggies are the team to watch in the final weeks based on his strong relationship with the offensive coaching staff, especially OC Collin Klein. "In late June, Notre Dame was the program generating the most buzz but time has gone along, I get the sense this has turned more into a Texas A&M - Iowa State battle with Notre Dame still in the mix but their push has slowed a little bit after the addition of Ian Premer. While I'm not ready to count out Iowa State, I think Texas A&M sits in a really nice spot in this race right now." Notre Dame could be out of the running after Ian Premer's commitment, and Texas A&M has just one tight end commit in the 2026 cycle. Collin Klein's scheme is tight end dependent, meaning Jacobson would have a chance to see the field as soon as his second season, and also has a shot at playing under new Texas A&M basketball HC Bucky McMillan. According to 247Sports, Jacobson is currently positioned as the 175th-ranked prospect in the class, the 11th-ranked tight end, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Iowa. Iowa women's basketball continues quirky team tradition
Earlier this week during Iowa women's basketball's media availability following summer practice, senior forward Jada Gyamfi revealed a peculiar team tradition that will likely come as a shock to many Hawkeye fans and some unsuspecting teammates as well. During her rounds with the local media, Gyamfi was asked if she had any unique veteran jokes or pranks she performs with the team after being around the program for the last three seasons. The 6-foot-1 forward admitted to being the torchbearer of a long-standing locker room tradition, which she inherited from former Hawkeyes guard Kate Martin after Martin left the program following the 2023-24 season. According to Gyamfi, this tradition involves the random placement of fake cockroaches in teammates' locker room stalls, personal belongings (such as backpacks and shoes) and even throwing them following workouts. "Okay, so I have fake cockroaches in my locker. They have been passed down for many years. So Kate had them when I got here, and I took them from Kate when she left. So that's my go-to prank. Cockroach in your shoe. "If you bring a backpack in, you might find a couple of fake cockroaches in there. Or sometimes, when everyone's really tired after weights or something, I'll just grab one and throw it and see if anyone notices. It's really funny," Gyamfi said. When asked how long the tradition has been practiced within the Hawkeyes' locker room, Gyamfi was unsure, but said it had been occurring for around eight years. "Oh my god. Well, probably like eight years. I don't know. But I need to buy more," Gyamfi said. In a follow-up question on whether she believes Martin started the odd tradition, she immediately agreed and said that her locker currently has a jar of fake cockroaches waiting to be used. "I believe so," Gyamfi answered. "So if you ever get a tour of the locker room and open my locker, you will see a mason jar of fake cockroaches." While the tradition may cause some fans' skin to crawl, it has certainly created a lively locker room atmosphere for the Hawkeyes over time. And, in big-time collegiate athletics, whatever can help lighten the mood at times is a tradition worth carrying on.
