17 civic bodies to be declared plastic-free by October: AP Chief Secretary Vijayanand
He held a video conference with Collectors and officials of related departments from the Secretariat on Thursday, discussing issues such as Swarnandhra P-4 Foundation, Swarnandhra, Swachhandra, MSME parks, and Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana.
Speaking on the occasion, the CS said that steps are being taken to control single-use plastic items in a phased manner. By next October, 17 municipal corporations will be declared plastic-free. He added that steps will be taken to ban plastic items in all government offices across the State.
Vijayanand said that the government has launched the Swarnandhra P-4 Foundation programme with the noble goal of eradicating poverty and eliminating economic inequalities in society.
The government has set a target of adopting 15 lakh Bangaru Kutumbalu in the State by August 15 under this initiative.
He instructed Collectors to pay special attention to the successful implementation of Swarnandhra P-4. He also mentioned that 1,027 villages have been selected under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana, of which 765 villages have already been declared model villages under the Village Development Plan (VDP).
Regarding MSME Parks, Vijayanand said it is a Centrally sponsored scheme implemented with World Bank financial assistance. He directed Collectors to take appropriate steps in its implementation.

Collective efforts needed to ban plastic usage: Minister
Banaganapalle (Nandyal district): In a major step towards achieving a cleaner and greener Andhra Pradesh, Swarnandhra-Swachh Andhra (SASA) campaign was held at Kovelakuntla village on Saturday. Minister for Roads & Buildings, Infrastructure, and Investments BC Janardhan Reddy participated in the campaign. He led a rally from Kovelakuntla bus stand circle, accompanied by students, teachers and officials from various departments, forming a human chain to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic usage and the benefits of tree plantation. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Reddy emphasised that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was organizing Swachh Divas on the third Saturday of every month with the vision of achieving a 'Swarnandhra by 2047.' He informed that the theme for July is, 'Ending plastic pollution – avoid non-essential plastics and related pollution.' Awareness campaigns were being conducted across the State as part of this initiative. He urged that this movement should begin at the grassroots level to make it truly successful. Highlighting the health hazards of plastic pollution, including the rising cases of cancer due to plastic consumption by cattle and humans alike, the Minister stressed the need for collective efforts to eliminate plastic from homes, villages and towns. He also announced that the Kovelakuntla gram panchayat would pass a resolution against plastic use, giving shopkeepers one month to switch to alternatives like paper plates, cotton bags and reusable utensils. Minister Reddy proudly shared the success of his wife BC Indiramma's efforts in transforming nearly 80% of Banaganapalle into a plastic-free zone and called upon Kovelakuntla to emulate the same model. He appealed to teachers to educate students daily on plastic hazards and encouraged students to influence their families. 'A plastic-free Kovelakuntla is possible only with your cooperation,' he said, urging everyone to segregate waste at home and maintain cleanliness to ensure a healthy, oxygen-rich environment.

TIRUPATI: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday unveiled a comprehensive development agenda for the State, emphasising a commitment to public hygiene, technological innovation, and a decisive purge of criminal elements from politics. He also set a target to make the Secretariat plastic-free by August 15 and extend the ban to all municipalities by October, implementing a statewide ban by December. Addressing the gathering in Tirupati's 'Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra' programme, Naidu articulated his vision for 'Swarnandhra Pradesh' (Golden Andhra Pradesh) through 'Swachhandhra Pradesh' (Clean Andhra Pradesh), drawing parallels with Japan's renowned cleanliness culture. The Chief Minister expressed pride in Andhra Pradesh securing five Swachh Survekshan national awards, underscoring the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. Emphasising promoting reusable items such as steel glasses and raising awareness among government employees to lead by example, he urged citizens to 'chase away the plastic ghost,' promoting recycling and the concept of 'waste not being waste.' On the occasion, Naidu outlined several ambitious projects aimed at propelling Andhra Pradesh into a new era of development. A 'Quantum Valley' will be established in Amaravati, focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and aiming to make the capital a hub for quantum technology.
