Paul Finebaum Names the Best College Football QB He's Seen Since Tim Tebow originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
From 2006 to 2009, while playing for the Florida Gators, quarterback Tim Tebow showed he was one of the best players in college football.

He won a Heisman Trophy in 2007, earned the Maxwell Award in 2007 and 2008 while leading the Gators to a national championship win in 2008 and serving as a backup for another in 2006.
That's a lot of achievements, and during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN's "Get Up," analyst Paul Finebaum named one quarterback who could be just as great.
"Arch Manning is the best college football quarterback we have seen since Tim Tebow entered the scene in 2006," Finebaum said.
That's a lot of pressure for Manning to face, especially considering that this will be his first year serving as the Texas Longhorns' full-time starter after sitting for two seasons behind Quinn Ewers.

However, Finebaum's comments align with some of the many high expectations attached to the 21-year-old entering the 2025 season, as ESPN BET gives him the highest odds (+600) of winning the Heisman Trophy.
Last year, Manning got his first real taste of playing time for the Longhorns, appearing in 10 games, completing 61 of 90 passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions, accompanied by 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Those totals will need to rapidly increase for Finebaum's comparison to Tebow to hold up, as Tebow completed 234 of 350 passes for 3,286 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions while rushing for 895 yards and 23 touchdowns in his Heisman-winning season.

Manning will certainly be tested early on as Texas takes on the Ohio State Buckeyes, who last season were No. 1 in points per game allowed (12.9) and yards per game allowed (254.6), for a Week 1 matchup on Aug. 30.

Florida's legacy sophomore linebacker among ESPN's sleeper picks for 2025 season

Florida football looks to earn its first College Football Playoff appearance in 2025, but the road to the postseason is a long and grueling one for the Gators. Much like last season, the Orange and Blue face a veritable gauntlet of opponents that includes a punishing Southeastern Conference schedule. The key players in this coming fall's efforts are pretty clear, ranging from Heisman Trophy hopeful quarterback DJ Lagway to a trio of potential first-round picks in offensive tackle Austin Barber, edge defender Tyreak Sapp, and center Jake Slaughter. But this quarter cannot carry all the weight on their shoulders. Which leads us to ESPN's list of sleeper players for college football's top 25 teams in 2025, in which UF lands at No. 19. Florida's feature player is linebacker Myles Graham, who is a legacy through his father, running back Earnest Graham who played played for the Gators from 1998 to 2002. The younger Graham experienced a successful true freshman campaign in 2024 and is expected to take the next step this year. "We saw what Graham was capable of as a freshman for the Gators with 30 tackles. He also had three tackles for loss, one sack, an interception and a forced fumble," Harry Lyles Jr. begins. "With a line that should only be stronger in front of him, along with playing next to Grayson Howard, Graham has the potential to take another step in 2025. The great Florida teams of the 21st century have all had good linebacker play, and it feels like Graham could play that part for this team as it looks to rise again." Graham is a key component to Florida's defensive corps, which Lagway told Gators Wire "is going to be really strong this year." 4-star safety Devin Jackson announces commitment between Oregon Ducks, Florida Gators

The Oregon Ducks have been among the best teams in the nation over the past couple of years in recruiting the secondary, highlighted this season by the commitment from 5-star safety Jett Washington earlier this month. They added to that secondary haul on Thursday with a commitment from 4-star defensive back Devin Jackson, who joined the Ducks over the likes of the Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The 247Sports Composite rates Jackson as the No. 213 player in the 2026 class, and the No. 18 safety. Standing at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Jackson is a rangy safety who is expected to play deep or in the slot at the college level, which gives the Ducks some nice versatility in the 2026 class, seeing as they don't yet have a cornerback committed. Jackson took an official visit to Oregon earlier this month, and also went on the road to see the likes of Florida, Nebraska, Miami, and Penn State. Jackson is yet another example of Oregon's elite defensive back recruitment over the last few years under Dan Lanning, Chris Hampton, and Rashad Wadood. In the past two seasons, Oregon has picked up 5-star safety Jett Washington and 5-star safety Trey McNutt, plus 5-star cornerback Na'eem Offord, and 4-star cornerbacks Brandon Finney and Dorian Brew. There is one massive recruit remaining on Oregon's defensive back board, and that's 4-star CB Davon Benjamin, the No. 35-ranked player in the 2026 class. The Ducks will try hard to land him, but it's not going to be easy with the Washington Huskies, Texas Longhorns, and Michigan Wolverines also in the mix.
