Harry Potter film ranked as worst but fans definitely don't agree
The Harry Potter movies have finally been ranked from best to worst
Rotten Tomatoes has compiled a ranking of the entire Harry Potter film series, including the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs. While the top spot may come as no surprise, the lowest-ranked film has left some fans perplexed, with one commenting: "The rating of this absolutely confounds me."
The final instalment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, emerged as the highest-rated with a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald fared poorly, securing only 36% in review scores.
Despite its star-studded cast, including Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Zoë Kravitz, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, and Kevin Guthrie, the David Yates-directed film was met with lukewarm reception from critics.
Penned by JK Rowling, the sequel to the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them failed to captivate critics, with one reviewer stating: "The Crimes of Grindelwald's lack of awareness goes much deeper than a mere miscasting."
A particularly scathing review went as far as to compare the experience to "About as exciting as a trip to Hogwarts's most neglected lavatory."
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, released in 2018, marks the second instalment in the Fantastic Beasts series and tenth overall in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, reports the Mirror US.
Set in 1927, the film charts the journey of Albus Dumbledore and Newt Scamander as they devise a plan to defeat Gellert Grindelwald, the formidable dark wizard who poses a significant threat in this universe.
The narrative unfolds against a backdrop of escalating tensions and unexpected challenges, depicting a wizarding world more fractured than it has ever been.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald managed to rake in roughly $654.9 million globally at the box office, against its estimated $200 million production cost, earning it the distinction of being the least successful Harry Potter film financially – a record it maintained until the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022.
The film earned two BAFTA nominations for Best Production Design and Best Special Visual Effects. Its sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, hit cinemas in April 2022.
Penned by JK Rowling, the screenplay of the film was released as a book titled Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - The Original Screenplay, following the precedent set by its predecessor, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Audiences were more lenient than critics in their assessment of The Crimes of Grindelwald, with one fan commenting: "This is probably my favorite of the fantastic beast movies.
"I love the in depth characteristics and that you see what's going on in the characters heads for each decision that they make. As well this movie was made to be for the older fans that younger fans could still enjoy."
One viewer raved about the film with enthusiasm: "The rating of this absolutely confounds me lol this movie is so good! ! Of the 3 this is probably my favorite.
"The story is lovely, acting is great, special effects, all of it. I particularly loved how they tied multiple characters and storylines to the Harry Potter series.
"Overall it's just really pretty and exciting so I have no idea where all the negativity is coming from." A particular fan disclosed their unique standpoint: "Unpopular opinion but I think this movie was the best of the series to date.
"It had tons of magic, intensity and most importantly a great story." Someone else recommended ignoring any harsh criticism: "Beautifully shot, wonderfully written, and some fantastic performances.
"Forget the negative reviews, this is worth watching."

Netflix is quietly adding ‘tearjerking' fan favourite
Film lovers, mark your calendars as a perfect story of love and loss is set to be added to Netflix next month. We Live In Time is finally finding its home on Netflix UK on July 5, but warning, prepare for all the feels. It's a film that will make you laugh and cry, but most importantly, it teaches the audience that time is precious, following themes of grief in such a beautiful way that connects with so many watching. Starring the Hollywood dream team, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, We Live in Time will take you on a bittersweet journey through years of love, heartbreak, and enforcing the age-old message that life is a ticking time bomb. It follows the decade‑long, non-linear journey of Almut Brühl (Pugh), an ambitious chef, and Tobias Durand (Garfield), a marketing exec for Weetabix, as their relationship weaves through love, family, illness and everything in between. Hopeless romantics will need to grab the tissues as the film cleverly explores the life cycle of a relationship, cutting between timelines, past and present snapshots of a couple's story show how their love weathers recovery, birth and death. Directed by John Crowley, the film was released earlier this year and had cinema-goers sobbing and blubbering throughout the beautiful time-hopping story. Reviews say 'this broken timeline approach is part puzzle, part emotional puzzle – and more often than not, it works', while it was also echoed that the structure mostly avoids confusion thanks to cues like pregnancy bump and baby Ella's presence. In our four-star Metro review, Tori Brazier wrote that 'it is a wholesome and touching portrayal of a relationship acted out by two of the UK's biggest stars right now. And it's the perfect movie for when you want to sit in your feelings and be taken on an unashamedly emotional journey.' Still, not everyone bought in. The Telegraph described it as 'calamitous' and argued that some emotional impact is lost when you see outcomes before knowing their back stories. Viewers praised the film for how 'intimate' it felt – 'like watching a real couple in their private moments instead of watching a movie couple sharing big romantic gestures,' wrote @meb6x on Reddit. Another fan, @literary_bonna, described the box office hit as 'a classic 'wish you were them' love story'. More Trending With a 79% Rotten Tomatoes score, critics have labelled the film as a 'powerful melodrama'. If you did end up spending your weekly budget on the cinema trip (obviously you had to get that Tango ice blast), then you will be delighted to know that you can watch this firm fan fave again and again and again when it lands on Netflix next week. Whether you want to pretend you have something in your eye or you just need to weep on the sofa, We Live In Time is guaranteed to take you on an emotional rollercoaster, so buckle up! TV fans vow to 'never watch again' after drama makes controversial twist
Viewers have turned on The Bear as the critically acclaimed drama returned to Disney Plus for its fourth season, amid the continued presence of one particular character. As the third episode of the latest series played out, Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) issued an apology to old flame Claire Dunlap (Molly Gordon). In this moment, the show revisited one of its more memorable episodes – Carmy being locked in the fridge during a nightmare shift at the restaurant. In scenes which first aired in Series Two, Carmy had driven away Claire (on the outside of the fridge), by ranting that his relationship with her was distracting him from his restaurant duties. It took two more seasons after that, but Carmy finally apologised to Claire for his behaviour in the fridge, albeit very clumsily. However, the decision to revisit the events of this episode has alienated some fans, many of whom have reached their limit with Carmy and Claire. Writing on X as these scenes aired, some viewers shared their dismay at the emphasis on the star-crossed lovers. 'I can't bring myself to watch season 4 of The Bear. Claire ruined the show for me,' wrote kimseokjinsday1. 'Honestly, they could've never written another word about Claire in the script of the bear and I would have been totally okay with that,' said draft_x_. 'Why is claire still on s4 of the bear like wrap it up,' begged bloodrinkcheri. 'I turned off the bear szn 4 as soon as i saw claire,' said mags_pdf. This backlash marks a continued downward trend for the once universally beloved drama – Series One of which still holds a 100% 'fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The second series, by contrast, remains nearly as highly-rated, at 99%. This was followed by a respectable 89% for Series Three, and a lower 82% for Series Four. While most still recognised it as 'the best series on television,' its detractors have called out its lack of focus and slow pacing – especially compared to the more breakneck, panic-inducing earlier seasons. 'The Bear's failure to pick up the pace in a meaningful way this season has soured things,' wrote The Ringer, while Digital Mafia Talkies described it as 'really bad.' own Sabrina Barr was more positive, praising its character progression and, in particular, an episode co-written by star Ayo Edebiri. With all ten episodes of the show now streaming, viewers have been tuning in (and out) to make up their own minds, contributing to a 70% positive audience score on the review aggregator. The complicated relationship between Carmy and Claire may have proved controversial onscreen but, behind the scenes, their chemistry is going from strength to strength. More Trending Last year, Carmy and Claire stars Jeremy and Molly were spotted in a steamy clinch on the street – seemingly confirming rumours that they had begun dating. This came in the wake of his split from Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalia, who he is believed to have dated from 2023 to 2024. View More » The Bear season 4 is available to stream on Disney Plus. The Pitt: show with 95% rating still not available in the UK

It has a 95 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans of medical dramas continue to miss out on one of the most acclaimed shows of the year - at least in the UK. The Pitt debuted in America back in January 2025 but it still doesn't have a release date on this side of the pond. Noah Wyles, who was one of the stars of ER back in the 1990s and 2000s, has returned to familiar ground for this acclaimed Max show. Unlike other HBO shows it didn't immediately come to Sky Atlantic and Now TV. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad But why can't you watch it yet in the UK? Here's all you need to know: What is The Pitt about? Noah Wyle, Tracy Ifeachor in The Pitt | John Johnson/HBO The show, which brings together former ER collaborators Noah Wyles and R. Scott Gemmill, is a fresh twist on the medical drama. The synopsis for the first season on Rotten Tomatoes reads: 'A realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.' Across its 15 episodes, the show charts one single 15 hour shift in the titular hospital. Each episode covers roughly one hour of said shift - similar to how 24 worked back in the day. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It has a 95 per cent certified fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes - and an equally high 85 per cent audience score on the popcornmeter. So it seems like a real must watch. Why can't you watch The Pitt in the UK? Despite its critical acclaim and popularity with viewers in the US - it has already been renewed for a second series - it can't currently be watched legally in the UK. The show premiered on the streaming service Max (set to revert back to the name HBO Max soon) in January and it is not one that we have on this side of the pond yet. Unlike other HBO and Max shows, The Pitt has not been picked up for coverage by Sky Atlantic/ Now TV - which is a tad unusual. We reached out to Sky to see if they would be broadcasting it, but they did not respond. One wrinkle is that HBO Max is finally set to launch in the UK in 2026. It is set to bring together Max's streaming library with Discovery+ and TNT Sports - with further details in due course. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Unlike other European countries, HBO Max had not previously launched on our side of the pond due to Warner Brothers Discovery's deal with Sky - which is why shows like Game of Thrones and The White Lotus are broadcast on Sky Atlantic. However a deal has been struck and will see the ad-supported version of Max bundled in for Sky customers at no extra cost at launch, paving the way for its release in early 2026. The Pitt could be being saved as a potential draw to get people to subscribe to HBO Max upon its launch in the UK - but that is speculation on my part.
