Bengal won't remain silent over torture of migrant workers: TMC

Rajya Sabha member Samirul Islam said on Monday.
"These migrant workers are being detained without any police records. Authorities are not even contacting the state govt to verify their citizenship. What, then, is the motive of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah?" Samirul, who is also chairman of West Bengal Migrant Worker Welfare Board, said on X.

"Do they intend to punish Bengal in this illegal way — bypassing all Indian laws — simply because they failed to win the state electorally?" Samirul wrote, adding: "If the govt led by @narendramodi and @AmitShah believes it can continue to torment Bengal in this manner, they are mistaken.
Bengal will not remain silent. Under the leadership of @MamataOfficial, we will not allow the voices of the poor to be crushed simply because they speak Bengali.
We will fight this battle — and we will fight it on our terms."
Samirul said if infiltration had taken place, the responsibility lay with BSF. Reiterating what CM Mamata Banerjee had brought up many times, he said: "There are many migrant workers from other states living in Bengal. Have you ever heard of them facing such treatment?"
Samirul also questioned the legality of the detentions.

In many of these cases, Bangladeshi immigrants sneak into Bengal, get hold of fake documents from the Barasat-Basirhat area, and then spread into different parts of the country.
This has triggered antagonism against migrant workers from Bengal. Moreover, Trinamool's narrative of outsiders has alienated people from Bengal," he claimed.

With the construction of the by-pass road from to Khajuri village (Garhwa district), the residents heaved a sigh of relief. The by-pass from Shankha village (Palamu district) to Khajuri village (Garhwa district) links about two dozen villages in Palamu and Garhwa. He also sanctioned Garhwa-Ambikapur four-lane road and few other projects worth around Rs 2,460 crore in Garhwa district. Sri Ram Sene's protest march stopped by police in Belagavi
Belagavi: Hundreds of Sri Ram Sene activists, led by their chief Pramod Mutalik, attempted to launch the 'Ingali Chalo' protest march from Belagavi on Thursday, condemning the recent assault on cow vigilantes at Ingali village in Hukkeri taluk. However, police detained the activists before the march could commence. The protest was in response to the incident where five Sri Ram Sene members were allegedly tied to a coconut tree and assaulted by locals in Ingali village. Belagavi police have since arrested four accused and registered a suo-motu case in connection with the attack. According to Belagavi superintendent of police Dr Bhimashankar Guled, the conflict was triggered after the activists allegedly entered the residence of a Muslim family, causing panic among women inside. He said this intrusion provoked the reaction from villagers. The SP also raised concerns about the background of one of the assaulted individuals, who is a rowdy sheeter, and questioned whether he officially represented the Sri Ram Sene. Rejecting the SP's version of events as 'false' and 'misleading,' Sri Ram Sene launched the 'Ingali Chalo' campaign. Teachers to be relieved of midday meal duty
Dharwad: Following the failure of Mission Vidyakashi to achieve the target in SSLC examination-2025, the district administration has taken several reformative measures to ensure that the Mission succeeds atleast in 2025-2026. Burden of non-teaching, non-educational assignments on teachers was said to be one of the main reasons for the dip in passing percentage in SSLC examination and there was demand from the teachers to reduce this burden. The passing percentage in Dharwad district has come down to 67.6% in 2025 from 72.6% in 2024. The school education and literacy department has issued a circular on July 1, 2025 barring the officials of education department and other departments from summoning orally or in writing, the teachers for non-teaching, non-educational works during school hours. The circular even says that no competitive examinations will be held in schools during working days. Immediate steps are required in this regard, Divya said. Representatives from Iskcon and Adamya Chetana, the two organisations currently distributing mid-day meals in the district, said that they would discuss the matter with their trust heads and respond.
