83-year-old Athens man charged with attempted murder in son's shooting
Charles Lynn Lewis was being held in Limestone County Jail with no bail set as of Thursday afternoon.
The Sheriff's Office said they responded to a shooting call in the 15000 block of Sanderson Lane following a 911 call by the victim who said he was shot in the back by his father. When deputies arrived on scene, they took Lewis into custody.
Lewis was found to be in possession of the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.
"Based on physical evidence and witness statements, investigators determined that Lewis had lured the victim to the scene due to an ongoing personal dispute," the Sheriff's Office said. "Upon arrival, Lewis reportedly told the victim he intended to kill him before producing a handgun. As the victim attempted to flee, Lewis fired two shots, striking the victim once in the back."
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to the Sheriff's Office.
