While Siddaramaiah claimed he was not consulted before Shivamogga event, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote 2 letters to Karnataka CM, urging him to join physically or via video
Ahead of the inauguration of infrastructure projects in Karnataka's Shivamogga, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote two letters to the chief minister urging him to join physically or through video. Earlier during the day, Siddaramaiah said he was not consulted before finalising the Shivamogga National Highway projects' dedication and foundation ceremony on July 14, despite his name being included.
According to Gadkari's office, the letters were sent on July 11 and July 12. He also posted them on social media platform X, highlighting the Centre's commitment to cooperative federalism and coordination with state governments.
'In a major step towards boosting regional connectivity, the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony for multiple key infrastructure projects is being held today in Shivamogga, Karnataka. An official invitation was duly extended to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri @siddaramaiahJi, on 11th July 2025, inviting him to preside over the programme. In light of any possible scheduling challenges, a subsequent letter was sent on 12th July, requesting his virtual presence," Gadkari posted.

In the first letter, Gadkari 'informed" the CM about the project and 'requested to grace the occasion and preside over the programme".
In the second letter, it was added that in case the chief minister is unable to attend the event in person, 'we would be honoured if you could join us through video conferencing".
Gadkari on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone and dedicated nine National Highway projects spanning 88 km, with an investment exceeding ₹2000 crore.
'Due to prior commitments in Vijayapura, I have written to Shri @nitin_gadkari requesting the event be rescheduled," Siddaramaiah posted on X.
In the letter, Siddaramaiah told Gadkari that it has come to his notice that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways along with National Highway Authority of India is organising the ceremony on July 14.

'… and my name has also been printed in the draft invitation card. However, I have not been intimated about this programme in advance, and an inauguration programme of various developmental schemes is already scheduled under my Chairmanship in Indi Taluka, Vijyapura District on the same day," he added.
Siddaramaiah suggested that it would have been more appropriate for MoRTH to have consulted with the State Government before scheduling the State Level programmes.
'Therefore, I request you to instruct the department to coordinate with the State Government while organising such programmes. Also, I request you to postpone this programme and provide me with a couple of dates convenient to you, so that I would be able to join you in this significant state level programme," he added.

There's no power struggle, Siddaramaiah will continue as CM: Reddy

Mysuru: "There's no revolution (Kranti) or any power struggle in the state. Chief minister Siddaramaiah himself has put an end to all such talks by clearly saying he will continue as CM for five years," said transport minister Ramalinga Reddy. Speaking to the media, Reddy clarified, "I have no knowledge of any power-sharing discussions within the high command. Siddaramaiah's statement is clear–—he will be the chief minister for five years. There's nothing more to say on this." On reports of AICC leader Randeep Singh Surjewala seeking feedback from MLAs, Reddy responded, "I am unaware of any complaints against ministers or discussions between MLAs and Surjewala in Delhi. If meetings happen behind closed doors, how would I know? The high command handles all internal matters." Responding to some Congress leaders referring to Siddaramaiah as an "outsider," Reddy said, "Wherever he may have come from, today he is a Congress leader. He became chief minister because people support him. He's a mass leader and has worked hard both earlier and now as CM. He has given, and is giving good governance to people." Asked about the possibility of deputy CM DK Shivakumar becoming CM, Reddy said, "DK Shivakumar has been a loyal Congressman since his student days. He will definitely become chief minister—when, I can't say. His time will come." Pressed further on whether Shivakumar could become CM during the current term, Reddy concluded, "I have no information on that."

Centurian govt school gets facelift under CSR

Pic: The renovated building of Govt Primary School, No.04, in Kamalapur of Dharwad Dharwad: The century-old government model school at Kamalapur in Dharwad, which was in a bad shape, is wearing a new look, thanks to funding by Coal India Limited under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The building of Govt Kannada Primary School No.04 has been renovated and modern facilities to provide hi-tech education have been installed. Former mayor Iresh Anchatageri who represents the area in HDMC said he had approached Union minister Pralhad Joshi seeking help to rejuvenate the school and the latter had obliged by getting Coal India Ltd to provide necessary funds to the school under CSR. "Coal India Ltd has provided Rs 1.6 crore and additional fund of Rs 36 lakh has come from HDMC under the corporator's local area development fund," Anchatageri said. With the new facilities, this govt school surpasses the private institutions as far infrastructure is concerned and now the onus is on the teachers and students to make use of the facilities to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the school. The school has high-quality classrooms and toilets. "Union minister Joshi has shown his concern for education by providing complete funding to transform this 100-year-old govt school into a model school, giving priority to the education of underprivileged children," Anchatgeri hailed. The formal inauguration of new facilities will be done soon, he added.

Non-fossil sources now supply 50% power to India's national grid

New Delhi: India's non-fossil power generation has reached 50% of the overall installed power capacity well before the deadline, the Union ministry of new and renewable energy said on Monday. The milestone has been achieved five years prior to the committed timeline of 2030 under India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement. The total non-fossil capacity has reached 242.8GW, half of the total installed capacity of 484.8GW, showed data from the ministry. The non-fossil capacity includes 184.62GW of renewable power, 49.38GW of large hydro projects and 8.78GW of nuclear power capacity. Taking to social media platform 'X', the union minister for new and renewable energy Pralhad Joshi said: "In a world seeking climate solutions, India is showing the way. Achieving 50% non-fossil fuel capacity five years ahead of the 2030 target is a proud moment for every Indian." "Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji's leadership continues to drive Bharat's green transformation—paving the path towards a self-reliant and sustainable future," he added. The development gains significance in the backdrop of the government's target to install a total of 500GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 and achieve net zero carbon emission by 2070. The ministry statement said that India's progress assumes greater significance in the global context and despite having one of the lowest per capita emissions globally, India remains among the few G20 countries that are on track to meet—or even exceed—their NDC commitments. "At international platforms such as the G20 and the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, India has consistently advocated for climate equity, sustainable lifestyles, and low-carbon development pathways. By achieving the 50% non-fossil milestone well ahead of schedule, India further reinforces its leadership as a clean energy frontrunner, demonstrating that economic growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand," the ministry said. The ministry said artificial intelligence (AI) is set to emerge as the backbone of India's future energy infrastructure. AI will play a central role in demand forecasting, predictive maintenance, automated grid management, and system efficiency enhancement, it said, adding that with AI-driven platforms, rooftop solar, electric vehicles, and smart meters will function within intelligent energy marketplaces, enabling consumers to become active energy producers—so-called 'prosumers'. Demand forecasting is key as India has been witnessing record demand in the past three years. In May last year, the country's peak power demand touched 250GW, the highest ever. It is expected to hit 270GW this year. However, amid early onset of monsoons this year, demand has not hit new highs so far. In February, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) issued an advisory on co-locating energy storage systems with solar power projects to enhance the cost efficiency and stability of the grid. With the solar and wind being intermittent sources of energy, they may impact grid stability. With these concerns in sight, the government is also making efforts to boost energy storage systems in the country.
