Marang Bersatu backs Muhyiddin as PN's ‘poster boy' for GE16
PETALING JAYA : The Marang Bersatu division has unanimously nominated Muhyiddin Yassin as Perikatan Nasional's 'poster boy' for the 16th general election.
Division chief Razali Idris confirmed the nomination, which was made in conjunction with Bersatu's nationwide annual division conferences.
'The delegates of the Marang division fully support Muhyiddin as the 'poster boy' for GE16.
'The decision was made during the division's meeting last night,' he told FMT.
Razali, who is also the Terengganu Bersatu chief, said the state chapter has eight divisions out of 202 nationwide.

Last November, Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan said Muhyiddin should stay on as PN's 'poster boy' and prime ministerial candidate, despite calls for the role to go to someone from PAS, which holds the most parliamentary seats in the coalition.
PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said the coalition's leadership should be decided through proper discussion among all parties, stressing that PAS was not power-hungry but wanted consensus.
However, Gerakan and Bersatu leaders threw their support behind Muhyiddin, saying the former prime minister remained PN's sole candidate for the prime minister's position in GE16.
Although Muhyiddin announced at Bersatu's general assembly in November that he would step down, he reversed the decision two days later after his wife, Noorainee Abdul Rahman, persuaded him not to disappoint party members who still needed his leadership.

But as the degree of trust deficit widens in tandem with expansion in the Sales and Service Tax (SST) scope effective July 1, it seems that Malaysians at large who have grown accustomed to the 'potential investment' phrase have begun to equate it as nothing more than a 'promotional gimmick'. As spill-over effect from the SST and electricity tariff review will prompt traders to raise prices, thus burning a bigger hole in their pockets (coupled with concerns over the RON95 subsidy pullback soon), it seems that every action of the Madani government has come under scrutiny. This is evident with a ' self-praise' post on the PKR Facebook page of PMX unveiling that 'Malaysia is successful of netting RM8.13 bil in potential investment in Italy' which has since garnered 15K likes, 8.3K comments and 381 shares at the time of writing. 'What has been the outcome from potential investments unveiled during previous trips? Have they been realised? Hope there is news coverage on this … Or is the so-called 'potential'(investment) merely a DREAM,' wondered a commenter whose comment top the list with 1.3K likes. Others snubbed PMX for either deceiving either Malaysians with his 'billion' trademark every time he steps out of the country or 'only bring home rude surprises (ie in the form of new taxes)'. This is when a commenter advised PMX 'not to disclose (the figures) when still in 'potential' stage' but only to do so once he can confirm that the investments he brought home had been realised or approved. Bangladesh to cooperate fully with Malaysia in GMRB militant group investigation
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Bangladesh has pledged full cooperation to Malaysian authorities following the arrest of 36 Bangladeshi nationals in a recent security operation targeting alleged involvement in the Bangladeshi Radical Militant Group (GMRB). The Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur promptly engaged with the relevant Malaysian authorities and formally requested the identities of the individuals as well as information regarding the allegations brought against them. Five of the individuals have been formally charged in Malaysian courts, while the rest are undergoing further investigation or deportation processes, the ministry said in a statement yesterday. "The Bangladesh government is closely monitoring the developments, and the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is in close communication with the relevant Malaysian authorities and will extend necessary support to the expatriate Bangladeshis wherever needed,' it said. The ministry also reiterated Bangladesh's firm stance against all forms of terrorism, violent extremism, and militancy, reaffirming its commitment to cooperate fully with Malaysian authorities in this regard. Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail reportedly said that police initially detected the group's activities through social media accounts operated by Bangladeshi nationals using Malaysian IP addresses to spread IS ideology. Zahid tells Umno members to stop trampling each other, says internal feuds risk party's survival
SEGAMAT, July 6 — UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded the leadership and members to stay away from the culture of putting each other down which is not beneficial to the party. Comparing the action to 'crabs in a bucket', he said all members should instead work together to strengthen the party's internal security for the survival of the party ahead of the upcoming 16th general election (GE16). 'Don't be like crabs in a bucket... all the crabs want to get out, but step on the others so that they can climb up. 'In the end, not a single one comes out, all die in the bucket. Why are we dying in a bucket because we trampled on each other?,' he said at the closing of the Segamat UMNO Division Delegates Meeting at the Taman Yayasan Multipurpose Hall, here yesterday. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, stressed that the culture of pointing fingers and assuming that only one is right will only break the people's confidence in UMNO. 'Any differences of opinion among members must be expressed in a civilised and ethical manner, especially when discussing internal party issues. 'If today we are small leaders, God willing one day we can become big leaders, but if we are rude to others today, when we rise, more people will be rude to us,' he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, also called on the entire UMNO machinery to remain focused on efforts to strengthen unity among the grassroots and not make differences of opinion a cause for division.
