Sarah Michelle Gellar's Goal Is to 'Bring Back Everyone Who Has Died' on ‘Buffy' for Reboot

Sarah Michelle Gellar is hoping some original Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters rise from the dead in the forthcoming reboot.
The actress, who led the original series for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, is reprising her role as Buffy Summers in the reboot. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong has also been cast in the new Hulu series as a new young Slayer.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Gellar teased the Buffy reboot as well as who she would like to see return. 'It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original,' she shared. 'We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.'
While the Dexter: Original Sin star admitted she's 'very lucky' she 'didn't feel the pressure that today's actors feel' with social media when she starred on Buffy, she also wants to make sure the reboot includes modern themes, issues and storylines.
'One of the surprising aspects of Buffy is that it's always been a crossover series,' Gellar added. 'We're trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.'
Most details surrounding the reboot, which Hulu is referring to as the 'Untitled Buffyverse Pilot,' are being kept under wraps. Gellar is also executive producing the series.

ABC Cancels Beloved Show After One Season and Fans Are Devastated

ABC Cancels Beloved Show After One Season and Fans Are Devastated originally appeared on Parade. Sigh. Well? Another one of my primetime guilty pleasures just went right out the window. Or maybe it sank to the bottom of the sea. ABC has officially canceled after just one season, and this news is such a huge bummer, I really don't even know how to process it. The medical drama, starring Joshua Jackson as the beyond-hot-AF ship's doctor, Max Bankman, and Don Johnson as the Odyssey's captain, Robert Massey, wasn't exactly the most riveting thing on TV, but man, it was such a fun weekly watch. According to Variety, the cast's contracts expire on Monday, and the series will not be coming back to ABC's schedule. So I guess this is it. The last episode, "The Wave" was, well... the LAST episode. Honestly, maybe we should've anticipated this? Let's consider how the finale of season one left things. *SPOILERS AHEAD* While most shows end with some sort of unfinished business or cliffhanger, things kind of came full circle on Doctor Odyssey. Captain Massey was reinstated as the head of the ship. Dr. Max made it safely back on board after being stranded after an earthquake in Mexico triggered a tsunami. Avery (Phillipa Soo) realized she really does love Max and wants to be with him even though she's headed to medical school. And Tristan (Sean Teale) was totally cool with the whole thing and didn't make a stink about her choosing Max over him. So. In essence, that last episode set things up for an impending cancellation. Womp womp. Needless to say, I'm not the only one who's disappointed with the news that I won't be setting sail from my couch this fall. Other fans of the show took to social media to voice their opinions on the show's departure. That tweet sums things up perfectly. Was it a deep, intense show that left you on the edge of your seat and made you ponder your life's choices? No. But was it a fun, light-hearted, no-brainer you could successfully watch while scrolling TikTok at the same time? Yes. Here's another gem I just can't resist sharing. LMAO. Priceless. Another fan boldly declared on X, "I'm genuinely so fu----g devastated. As unhinged as this show was, it gave me so much joy and deserves another season." And someone else said, "I'm so sad! What a bummer. What a fun show that didn't take itself so seriously." I guess there are quite a few of us who will need to find a new guilty pleasure show to watch going forward. Two-time Emmy-winning Jimmy Kimmel holds the distinct honor of being the lone comedian leading the late-night TV effort on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel Live! After 20 years on the air, the series continues to provide entertainment for those willing to stretch their bedtimes. Since the program's inception, Kimmel's chairs have been a routine stop for a number of ABC show stars including those of Grey's Anatomy and Station 19, which are both headed into season 20 and season 7 respectively. Additionally, a wide range of TV and film stars, musicians and politicians have appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! making for a number of memorable moments. As Kimmel continues to provide a funny space in the late-night genre, we will keep you up to date with his latest guests. It looks like Jimmy Kimmel Live! is taking a break from new episodes during the week of June 30. The episodes airing will all be ones that previously aired. The comedian has been a staple on late-night TV for over 20 years. Kimmel has earned two Emmys, but it was not for his work on his talk show. Wearing his executive-producer hat, Kimmel earned one trophy for Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: All In The Family And Good Times and the other for Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: Norman Lear's All In The Family And The Jeffersons. Kimmel hosted the Academy Awards in 2017, 2018 and 2023, and hosted the Emmys in 2012, 2016 and 2020. Cleto and the Cletones are the house band for Jimmy Kimmel Live! Band leader Cleto Escobedo III once was a neighbor of Kimmel's, and the musician has previously toured with the likes of Marc Anthony and Earth, Wind & Fire's Phillip Bailey. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is an ABC original series and as such, new episodes air live directly on the broadcast network. For those that have cut ties with traditional cable/satellite television, ABC is available to stream on live TV streaming services such as Fubo, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. New episodes become available to stream the next day on Hulu.
