Sarah Michelle Gellar's Goal Is to 'Bring Back Everyone Who Has Died' on ‘Buffy' for Reboot

Sarah Michelle Gellar is hoping some original Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters rise from the dead in the forthcoming reboot. The actress, who led the original series for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, is reprising her role as Buffy Summers in the reboot. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong has also been cast in the new Hulu series as a new young Slayer. 'It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original,' she shared. 'We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.' While the Dexter: Original Sin star admitted she's 'very lucky' she 'didn't feel the pressure that today's actors feel' with social media when she starred on Buffy, she also wants to make sure the reboot includes modern themes, issues and storylines. 'One of the surprising aspects of Buffy is that it's always been a crossover series,' Gellar added. 'We're trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.' Most details surrounding the reboot, which Hulu is referring to as the 'Untitled Buffyverse Pilot,' are being kept under wraps. Gellar is also executive producing the series. Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Children of Original ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Actors Auditioned for Reboot

Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that she saw some familiar names on the audition roster for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. The actress who played Buffy Summers in the original series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, recently chatted with Us Weekly with her former Buffy co-star Alyson Hannigan, who portrayed Willow Rosenberg. During the interview, Hannigan confessed, 'I know somebody who auditioned for something on the show.' 'I know somebody who was on the show whose child auditioned on the show,' she revealed. 'I know a few people from the show whose children came in.' 'It better not have been one of my kids,' Hannigan quipped in response. Though the Wolf Pack star didn't reveal the names of those who auditioned, last week it was announced that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been cast in a lead role in Hulu's pilot for the reboot. The new show will also see Gellar reprise her role as Buffy Summers. 'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' Gellar said in a statement regarding Armstrong's casting. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.' Most details on Armstrong's role, as well as the show itself, are being kept under wraps. The original series, which also starred Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Head, James Marsters and Emma Caulfield Ford, followed Buffy Summers, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, as she dealt with her life of fighting evil, with the help of her friends. A premiere date for the reboot has yet to be revealed. Disney might have quietly canceled a beloved 'Star Wars' show — despite rating 92% on Rotten Tomatoes

"Star Wars" shows have been in a rough spot lately, but "Skeleton Crew" felt like a rare bright spot when it premiered at the end of last year. The show debuted to rave reviews. It initially scored a 94% "fresh" rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. As of this writing, it still sits at an impressive 92%. Our staff liked it as well. Our own Martin Shore said it was a "refreshing spin on a beloved franchise," and our TV/AV staff writer Ryan Epps also came away impressed. Unfortunately, though, we may have seen the last of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew." One of the stars of the show is Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, a human girl from the planet At Attin who is integral to the show. If there's a season 2, she'll almost certainly not be coming back. On May 15, Sarah Michelle Gellar jumped on a video call with Armstrong to reveal that she would be the star of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" reboot, which was then posted to Instagram for all to see (h/t Bam Smack Pow). Armstrong taking on a lead role in another series almost certainly precludes her from returning for a potential "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" season 2. It wouldn't be impossible, but it'd be an incredible feat for her to have a starring role in both shows. However, there's not necessarily a need to bring Armstrong's character, Fern, back for a season 2. The show ends in a way that would satisfyingly wrap up Fern's arc, if needed. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Of course, the problem is that the show satisfyingly wrapped up ... well, everything. It could stand on its own as a miniseries, and given that "Star Wars" seems to still be in the process of righting the ship, I think they'll probably leave well enough alone and leave a majority of the "Star Wars" TV shows behind. Malcolm has been with Tom's Guide since 2022, and has been covering the latest in streaming shows and movies since 2023. He's not one to shy away from a hot take, including that "John Wick" is one of the four greatest films ever made. Here's what he's been watching lately:
