India Today has exclusively accessed the status report filed by the US AEC in the New York court.
In early March, the Law Ministry forwarded the SEC's summons to the District & Sessions Court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for service on Gautam Adani. However, the SEC has received no confirmation whether the summons have been issued by the court since then. The case against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani centres on allegations that they violated federal securities laws by making false and misleading statements concerning Adani Green Energy Limited. The case alleges that Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and six others agreed to pay about USD 265 million in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain contracts expected to yield USD 2 billion of profit over 20 years, and develop India's largest solar power plant project. The SEC initiated legal action in the US to investigate and prosecute the matter.advertisementTo facilitate the service of summons, the SEC had approached India's Ministry of Law and Justice to act under the Hague Service Convention, an international treaty that governs cross-border judicial document delivery. However, the summons have yet to be transmitted by Indian authorities to the Adanis. The delay in serving the summons continues to stall the progress of the case in the US court. The next status report in the matter is due to be filed by August 11.This comes a day after the Indian billionaire denied the US allegeations during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Adani Group. He stated that no one from the group has been charged with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) or obstructing justice in connection with the bribery allegations by US authorities and the SEC.Referring to the scrutiny around Adani Green Energy, Adani said the group stood firm despite pressure.- EndsMust Watch

Power ministry launches task force to develop India energy stack platform

The Ministry of Power on Saturday announced the launch of a task force to conceive the India Energy Stack (IES), an initiative aimed at creating a unified, secure, and interoperable digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the energy sector. The IES will play a vital role in integrating renewable energy, enhancing DISCOM efficiency, and delivering transparent, reliable, and future-ready power services, an official statement quoted Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar as saying. There is an urgent need for developing robust DPI in the power sector to manage the country's rising demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. What Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector - unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen," he added. As India charts its path to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy and advances towards its net-zero commitments, the power sector faces both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges, the statement said. Rapid growth in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and consumer participation in energy markets is transforming the sector, but fragmented systems and a lack of seamless digital integration remain key barriers, it pointed out. To address these issues, the ministry is reimagining the sector's digital foundation through the IES - a DPI that will provide a standardised, secure, and open platform to manage, monitor, and innovate across the electricity value chain. The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions; real-time, consent-based data sharing; open APIs(Application Programming Interface) for seamless system integration; and tools for consumer empowerment, market access, and innovation. Apart from conceiving the IES, the ministry will undertake a 12-month Proof of Concept (PoC) to demonstrate IES through real-world use cases in partnership with selected utilities. This includes piloting the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP), a modular, analytics-driven application built on IES to support utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management. To guide these initiatives, the ministry has constituted a dedicated task force comprising experts from the technology, power sector, and regulatory domains, which will steer the development, pilot implementation, and nationwide scale-up of the IES.

Tripura needs stronger security due to current situation in Bangladesh: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday exhorted various agencies to enhance security and surveillance in the state, given the current situation in Bangladesh. Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides. Therefore, strengthening of security is needed, the chief minister said after inaugurating the state's first cyber police station here. "We all know the present situation in Bangladesh. There is a need to enhance security arrangements. The northeastern state has been made into a corridor for the smuggling of drugs and narcotic items. Infiltration from across the border is also another problem," he said. "There are reports that a section of people go close to the international border (Indian side) and have conversations with people living on the other side of the international border. The situation may turn ugly once AI-enabled 5G service is available," he said. Referring to the shift from conventional warfare during 'Operation Sindoor', the chief minister said cannons and the presence of forces were not seen in the conflict (With Pakistan). "Modern warfare requires a click," he said. "A mobile phone has become more dangerous than AK-47 rifles. Advanced technology has changed the form of battle, conflict or war," he said. Terming cybercrime a kind of shadow warfare, he said the security forces need to fight the criminals digitally to prevent fraudulent activities. Emphasising awareness among the people about cyber fraud activities, Saha said the security agencies are also required to upgrade their skills to foil fraudulent activities on digital platforms. The Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Dhankar, urged the people to contact the newly inaugurated cyber police station if they encounter any incident related to cybercrime. The cyber police station is located in Agartala's AD Nagar and it will deal with all cyber-related crimes across the state. The Centre has given Rs 45 lakh out of the total outlay of Rs 5 crore.
