Caitlin Clark crosses important injury recovery milestone
During the star guard's five-game absence, the Fever have gone 3-2, with three impressive wins over Dallas, Las Vegas and Minnesota in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game. Unfortunately, both losses have come at home against the lowly Los Angeles Sparks, who exposed Indiana's lack of scoring depth without Clark on the court.
With Indiana enjoying a few days of rest and preparation before their next game on Wednesday, June 9, Clark gave fans optimism Monday afternoon as she played through a 5-on-5 practice session in front of Fever season-ticket holders.
Following the practice session, head coach Stephanie White shared her opinion on Clark's recovery status, stating that the 5-on-5 drill allowed her to see how the franchise cornerstone guard performs in game situations and that the team will have a better idea tomorrow.
"I hope so. I think just the same return to play structure that we have is that she gets to do a little bit more, and then we see tomorrow. Is there progress or is there any regression? How does she feel? How does she look? What does recovery look like? And so this was really the first time we've been able to get her out as a live action, so we'll see what it brings tomorrow," White said.
White also provided her assessment of Aari McDonald's pairing at guard alongside Clark by saying the former Arizona Wildcat allows for more off-ball action from Clark and gives the team different looks on offense when the Hawkeyes legend needs a breather.
"I think it'll be really good for us to be able to get C [Caitlin Clark] off the ball a little bit more in certain situations and playing on the floor with Aari [McDonald] gives her an opportunity to do that. I think we can give her a break. I think we can give her and our team different looks when that happens. So this is really the first time that we've been able to practice that. So I look forward to exploring that a little bit more," White said.
While the successful practice session and confidence from coach White does not necessarily give an automatic seal of approval for Clark to make her return on Wednesday, it is a significant milestone moment for her recovery nonetheless.
The Fever welcome former Hawkeye Kate Martin and the Golden State Valkyries to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday morning, with the game beginning at 11 a.m. CT and broadcasting on NBA TV.

One of Notre Dame's top remaining ‘26 targets, S Nick Reddish, will commit later this week
This past weekend was another big one for Notre Dame football recruiting, as it added three new commitments to its 2026 class. While there isn't much room left in the group, as it stands with 25 verbals, the Irish won't turn away a prospect that they believe can help the team. One of those players is North Carolina safety Nick Reddish, who will make his commitment on July 11th at his high school. Notre Dame is one of three finalists along with Indiana and Wisconsin for the 5-foot, 11-inch and 185-pound star. Reddish is ranked as the No. 681 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, and it is looking like he is leaning towards picking the Irish. There are three 247Sports crystal ball projections logged for him, and each of them believes that the is going to pick Notre Dame. In just a few days, we will find out if they are correct, as the Irish could be adding another top player to its already impressive collection of committed members of the secondary.

Caitlin Clark expected to return to Fever Wednesday as TD Garden game approaches
'I think it's just nice to get back out there and get into the flow of playing with my teammates again,' Clark told reporters Tuesday. 'It's going to be fun to get back out there hopefully and just feel things again. I don't know what the type of minutes I'm going to get will look like, but just when I'm out there compete, play hard.' Advertisement Clark, who last week was voted an all-star starter and captain in her second season, has played just nine games this season. She's averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds while playing 33.3 minutes per game. When she returns, White said Clark will play under a minutes restriction. 'I hope to play a decent amount, maybe upper 20s,' Clark said. 'Just depends how I feel and how the game goes and what the team needs as well. I feel pretty good, but I'm probably going to try not to overdo it as well and put myself in a good position going forward.' This was Clark's second stint on the sidelines this season due to injury. She missed five games from May 28 to June 10 with a left quadriceps strain. Advertisement The Fever are 4-5 without Clark this season. That doesn't include their Commissioner's Cup championship win last week over the Minnesota Lynx. Clark celebrated the team's first Cup victory, but acknowledged sitting out hasn't been easy. She played all 40 games as a rookie last season. 'It's obviously hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks so I'm definitely excited to get back out there,' she said. 'It's been challenging mentally just staying in it. You're way more busy when you're hurt than when you're coming in and all you do is scout film and come out here and walk through things. I'm in here hours on hours on hours trying to get my body right and do everything I can to put myself in a position to be available the rest of the year.
