BET Awards ceremony to go on as planned despite LA unrest
June 9 (UPI) -- The BET Awards ceremony is expected to go on as planned Monday evening at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, despite ongoing clashes between protesters and authorities in the city.
"BET remains committed to the safety of our guests and staff," a network representative told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday night.
"We are working closely with the LAPD and monitoring the situation. The 2025 BET Awards will take place Monday, June 9th, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT as scheduled."
President Donald Trump deployed National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Sunday amid ongoing protests against recent raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
BET shared a clip from Master P's 2023 BET Awards performance Monday morning, asking followers to "Make sure you're tapped in today for the 2025 #BETAwards 8/7c."
Comedian Kevin Hart is to host the gala where Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin will be presented with Ultimate Icon Awards.
Slated to perform are Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, GloRilla, Playboi Carter and Leon Thomas.

Watch: 'Masters of the Universe' live-action film gets title reveal

The video, posted to YouTube on Wednesday, features the stylized Masters of the Universe logo in English, Spanish, Japanese and multiple other languages. The brief video is accompanied by a dramatic orchestral score. Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue), who plays He-Man in the film, announced on Instagram in June that filming had wrapped for Masters of the Universe. "It has been an honor shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He-Man," Galitzine wrote. The film, directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee), is scheduled to release in theaters on June 5, 2026.

The song preview, posted to YouTube on Wednesday, features a still image of wigs while Roan, aka Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, looks back on her ended relationship. "Made you the villain / Evil for just moving on / I see your shadow / I see it even with the lights off / I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain't gone / Well, [expletive] this city, I'm movin' to Saskatchewan," Roan sings. The pop star's creative director, Ramisha Sattar, also teased the song in her Instagram stories, with a clip of the song accompanied by video of a Saskatchewan license plate. Ads spotted on telephone poles in New York indicate the song is likely to be released Aug. 1. The posters feature an image of Roan's face with the caption, "Going through a breakup? Get bangs!" The image of Roan on the poster has a bread tag in her hair, reading: "Best Before August 1." Photo courtesy of Lifetime July 23 (UPI) -- Lifetime announced Wednesday that Brandy Norwood will star in and executive produce the movie Christmas Everyday. The film headlines the network's It's a Wonderful Lifetime holiday movie slate this year. Norwood's daughter, Sy'Rai Smith, makes her acting debut in the film alongside Norwood. Norwood plays Francine, a fashion designer trying to maintain her late father's Christmas traditions. This year, she is also planning her sister's (Smith) wedding. Debbi Morgan plays their mother, with Robert C. Riley as a contractor who responds to a plumbing emergency and inevitably becomes Francine's love interest. Norwood recently starred in Disney's Descendants: The Rise of Red and the theatrical movie The Front Room. She starred in Netflix's 2023 Christmas movie Best Christmas Ever. Her latest album was 2023's Christmas With Brandy, which features "Christmas Everyday." The song will be included in the film.
