Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru Committee Member Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng said the initiative aims to ease the burden of residents struggling with daily necessities. 'This programme is not only about basic needs, but also a show of care for the residents. We understand the challenges of urban life, especially for families with young children and the elderly,' he said. He added that the aid will continue with the help of local volunteers. 'We hope this support helps lessen their burden and strengthens the bond between PGRS and the community,' Dr Ritchie said. He also thanked all volunteers, especially youth members, for their role in distributing the aid in an orderly manner. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Victims of ‘first impression bias' on social media

Published on: Monday, July 14, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 14, 2025 By: Kan Yaw Chong Text Size: A frog's motherly love? Kota Kinabalu: First impression bias easily cause people to err. So beware, no fun to be completely wrong, superficial, unfair, even fall dire victim of misjudgement because of disproportionate influence of superficial, grossly limited, incomplete first impression. Cognitive bias is certainly worth the wisdom of knowing it is real and costly, because if an error of judgement is extreme enough, it can work like a fatal flaw. This writer got thinking about this very common error in judgement after architect Datuk Ho Jia Lit sent him a very intriguing frog picture. An architect is not trained on frogs, neither is a journalist. So this writer's first impression agreed with what Ho wondered about, in his text forwarded as follows: Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article. Inaugural Dusunic Sabah Carnival

Published on: Monday, July 14, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 14, 2025 Text Size: Lawrence chairing the Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association meeting. Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association Keningau will host the inaugural Dusunic Sabah Carnival at Apin-Apin, Keningau next month. Its President, Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, said the carnival is part of the association's effort to promote the continued use of the Dusunic language in everyday life. He said while language use among the younger generation has declined in some areas, the carnival will serve as a practical platform to bring it back into public focus. Activities lined up include speech competitions, poetry readings, traditional attire showcases and language workshops, all conducted in the Dusunic language. Gimbang announced the event after chairing the association's meeting (pic below), here, last Saturday. He emphasised that the carnival will later be brought to other districts, including Ranau, with a Dusunic language workshop also scheduled in Bongawan this August. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Small plane crashes at Southend airport, forcing closure

Published on: Monday, July 14, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 14, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: A plume of black smoke rises near the runway following a small plane crash at London Southend Airport, as seen from inside a terminal building. - Reuters LONDON: A small plane has crashed at a London regional airport, the police and Southend London airport announced yesterday, forcing its closure. Video footage showed a 12-metre plane in flames with a plume of black smoke at Southend-on-Sea, an airport east of London. 'We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours,' said a statement from Essex police, describing it as a 'serious incident'. Police said they had been alerted a little before 4 pm local time (1500 GMT). They evacuated a nearby golf club and rugby club as a precaution, they added. A statement from London Southend Airport confirmed there had been 'a serious incident' Sunday afternoon. 'We are working closely with the local authorities and will be able to provide more information as soon as possible,' it added. Later yesterday, it announced the airport's closure 'until further notice'. 'All flights to and from the airport have been cancelled while police, emergency services and air accident investigators are attending the incident,' it added. In a post on X, transport minister Heidi Alexander said she was aware of the 'tragic incident' and was following developments closely. According to the BBC, the plane, a Beechcraft B200, crashed soon after takeoff. Southend-on-Sea is about 65 kilometres (40 miles) east of the capital and is the sixth largest airport in the London area. - AFP * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
