The strongest lift and jet stream winds with this system will likely pass northeast of Pittsburgh into Central Pennsylvania, but this will still be close enough to give us a chance for some isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Sufficient instability and some wind shear will support a risk of hail and strong downburst winds with one or two cells that are really able to pulse up.

Overnight into Friday, skies will clear out and temperatures will be seasonable for the Fourth. No weather issues are expected for those who are doing outdoor activities or watching fireworks.

By Saturday, as high pressure moves east and winds shift to the southwest, we expect a warmer and more humid air mass to move in. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 80s to near 90, with the most likely days to see 90+ highs on Sunday and Monday as well.
The heat dome that builds in this weekend will not be as strong or long-lived compared to the one last week, so this stretch of 90s will be brief and eventually capped off with a chance of storms late Monday afternoon into Tuesday.
As always, any summer storms will be capable of producing downburst winds and small hail. Our pattern will remain slightly unsettled with daily low storm chances into the middle of next week.

A wildfire in California's San Luis Obispo County exploded in size Thursday, triggering evacuation orders and sending smoke plumes southeast into Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The big picture: The Madre Fire had grown to 35,530 acres on Thursday afternoon — surpassing January's destructive Los Angeles-area fires to become California's largest this year, as much of the state faces hot, dry conditions that raise the wildfire risk ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Officials warn that the smoke impacts of the blaze that's one of several wildfires burning in the state will be "far-reaching." Zoom in: The Madre Fire was burning at 5% containment in a wilderness area of central California near State Route 166 after igniting on Wednesday afternoon, per Cal Fire. Part of the highway was closed due to the blaze, per a San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services Facebook post. Evacuation orders and warnings were in effect for communities in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties near the highway as the blaze burned toward Carrizo Plain National Monument, a region some 125 miles northwest of LA that's known for its grasslands and spring wildflowers. With only hours away from Independence Day, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is urging residents to prioritize safety when celebrating with fireworks, warning of the potential for serious injuries and property damage. Children most at risk, officials say According to the National Fire Protection Association, an estimated 10,000 people are treated in U.S. emergency rooms each year for fireworks-related injuries, nearly half of whom are children under 15. Children ages 5 to 14 are most at risk, with hands and fingers being the most commonly injured body parts. Sparklers, fountains and other novelty fireworks are among the top contributors to these injuries. The NFPA also reports that fireworks cause approximately 20,000 fires annually, resulting in more than $100 million in property damage. Tips to stay safe To prevent accidents, MDFR advises residents to attend public fireworks displays organized by trained professionals rather than lighting fireworks at home. For those who do use fireworks, officials recommend buying only from approved vendors, lighting fireworks on paved surfaces away from homes and flammable materials, and never attempting to relight malfunctioning fireworks. Additional safety tips include supervising children at all times, avoiding loose clothing, wearing safety goggles, and keeping pets indoors. Used fireworks should be soaked in water before disposal to avoid trash fires. MDFR also emphasizes staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol or other substances while handling fireworks.
