Juventus keen on Benfica's Rui Pedro Braz for vacant sporting director role

Yahoo19-07-2025
Juventus are preparing to wait until September to appoint a sporting director, as reports from Italy claim the Bianconeri have one eye cast firmly on Benfica's outgoing Rui Pedro Braz.
According to what has been reported by the Corriere dello Sport this morning, Braz has already signalled his intentions to leave Benfica before the club's elections in October and Juventus are extremely keen on having the Portuguese director fill their vacant role.
Until then, Juventus in Comolli's hands…
For now then, Damien Comolli will remain in control of the Bianconeri's transfer window. The newly appointed general manager will oversee the remainder of the summer market, with François Modesto as his right-hand man.
With the Old Lady in no rush to appoint a new sporting director, the timing of Braz's Benfica departure is perfect. The Bianconeri can wait until the end of the transfer window, with Comolli in charge in the meantime, and then sign the perfect candidate without the pressure of the Mercato.
The same reports indicate that should Juventus fail to secure Braz as their new sporting director, Genoa's Marco Ottolini is an alternate candidate – having worked amongst the Bianconeri set-up until 2022.

Vlahovic and Goncalo Ramos' future intertwined as United wait

Manchester United may lose two of their potential striking targets to the same team. Striker search After missing out on Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike to Premier League rivals, United are still searching for number nine solutions. The news broke yesterday that United had narrowed their search down to Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Red Bull Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Nonetheless, should United also miss out on these options, they have been linked to loan options that could come at the end of August. Loan opportunities Juventus' relationship with Dusan Vlahovic is at an all-time low and the club is desperate to see the player leave the club this summer. Moreover, United have been linked to the Serbian and have also been credited with interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Portuguese attacker, Goncalo Ramos. AC Milan lurking United could swoop for either player but this is under threat by the summer activity of Italian giants AC Milan. The Rossoneri's interest in Vlahovic has already been reported on. Italian outlet Calciomercato assert that 'AC Milan is trying to intensify contacts to find the right formula for signing the Juventus number nine. This signing will only happen if the player reduces his net salary to €6-7 million.' The Juventus striker is said to be the club's 'main priority' but the club does have a back-up plan, involving another United target. It is reported that 'AC Milan, however, is also considering other options and their plan B is Goncalo Ramos, the Portuguese striker owned by PSG, who is seeking more playing time and who is looking at his transfer options.' PSG have no intention of selling Ramos, who they paid €65 million just two years ago. Nonetheless, they could be open to a loan move, something that Milan would favour due to their restricted financial situation. Liverpool Winger Rejects Jose Mourinho Interest in Favour of Serie A Move

Chiesa Makes Serie A Preference Clear as Liverpool Exit Looms Federico Chiesa's brief and unfulfilled spell at Liverpool appears to be nearing its conclusion. After just one season on Merseyside, the Italian winger seems poised for an exit, with strong suggestions he is seeking a permanent return to Italy. According to Calciomercato, 'Chiesa has now made his transfer preference clear if he is to leave Liverpool, which he's intending to do permanently rather than on loan.' Signed for £10 million from Juventus in August 2024, the 27-year-old was a calculated gamble for a Liverpool side navigating both transition and expectation under Arne Slot. Injuries, however, plagued his first year. He made just 14 appearances across all competitions, with only one Premier League start, according to Transfermarkt. With no place in the squad for Liverpool's pre-season tour of the Far East, his exclusion spoke volumes about his future. Serie A Return Beckons for Chiesa Chiesa's preference is understood to be a return to Serie A, where his stock remains high despite his misfortunes in England. Calciomercato reports that 'despite interest from the Saudi Pro League and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce, the 27-year-old is set to snub the ex-Manchester United manager in favour of a return to Serie A.' Photo IMAGO Clubs such as Atalanta, AS Roma, Napoli and AC Milan have been linked, with the latter two emerging as frontrunners due to Chiesa's previous relationships with Max Allegri and Antonio Conte. For a player seeking 'a club where he can return to prominence and benefit from a top-level salary,' the fit seems natural. Liverpool, according to the same report, are hopeful of recouping €15 million (£13 million), though a slightly lower fee may be accepted to facilitate a move before the window closes. Frustrated Opportunity at Anfield Chiesa's potential was never in doubt, but the timing of his Liverpool move and subsequent injury setbacks worked against him. Luis Diaz's imminent sale to Bayern Munich has thinned Liverpool's attacking depth, yet Chiesa still finds himself on the periphery. It is telling that he was not given the opportunity to travel with Slot's squad for pre-season. With Mohamed Salah expected to miss part of the campaign due to international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, many fans had hoped this might be Chiesa's chance to stake a claim. But as things stand, it appears that chapter is already closing. Even with emerging talent such as Florian Wirtz, Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai capable of stepping into advanced roles, the departure of another senior forward raises questions over squad depth. Should Liverpool also land a marquee forward like Alexander Isak, it may signal a broader reshuffle rather than a straight replacement. Photo: IMAGO Transfer That Never Took Off Chiesa's signing was seen as shrewd and low-risk. Yet, even in a system built on movement and intelligent pressing, he rarely had the opportunity to settle or contribute consistently. There were flashes, but no rhythm. One goal and minimal involvement simply did not reflect the player who lit up Euro 2020 and impressed so often in Serie A. The decision now rests with Liverpool. Hold on to a player who may still yet offer something in a long, demanding season? Or accept the realities of his situation and let him return to a league and style where he can thrive? For a club that has often benefitted from patience and second chances, letting Chiesa go now may feel premature. But equally, it is difficult to begrudge the player his wish for a fresh start elsewhere. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis For Liverpool supporters, the situation around Federico Chiesa is tinged with disappointment. There was genuine excitement when he arrived from Juventus, not only because of his technical quality but also for the energy and directness he brings. Injuries limited his impact, but the sense was always that with a full pre-season and clear run, he could be a useful option. Now, with Luis Diaz likely to leave, this would seem the perfect opportunity for Chiesa to push on and contribute. Especially with Salah heading to AFCON, the schedule over December and January will be intense. The idea that we might go into that stretch short on senior attackers is concerning. Still, if his heart is no longer in it, and if Arne Slot has already made a judgement on his suitability, then perhaps it is best to part ways now. Ideally, we would see him return to form in Italy, stay healthy, and remind everyone of the player he was not too long ago. A sale to Napoli or Milan feels logical, but hopefully, the club ensures it extracts fair value before shaking hands.

Update On Tottenham Hotspur In Their Pursuit Of This Bayern Munich Talent: Good Choice For Frank?

In a recent post on X, journalist Sebastien Vidal offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of Bayern Munich talent Joao Palhinha. It has been claimed that Spurs are ready to launch a £45m bid to land the Portugal international in this summer transfer period. Palhinha's Decent Form In The Bundesliga The 30-year-old proved his worth at times for Bayern in the previous campaign, but was sidelined for a lot of games for them because of injury. Palhinha played in 25 matches for the Munich outfit last season in all competitions. Palhinha gave a good account of himself in the middle of the park as he made 20 tackles, 13 blocks and 4 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from midfield, based on his pass completion rate of 92.4% in the German top flight (stats via Palhinha's current contract at the Munich club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Tottenham would have no choice but to meet Bayern's demands for their prized asset in this transfer period. MUNICH, GERMANY – SEPTEMBER 01: Joao Palhinha of FC Bayern München looks on during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern München and Sport-Club Freiburg at Allianz Arena on September 01, 2024 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by) Is Palhinha A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank? Palhinha is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half when he is playing well on the pitch. He usually clears his lines when required and is an accurate passer of the ball from midfield. Standing at 1.90m, the Portuguese sensation is a strong presence in the air. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League from his time at Fulham and won't take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham. Palhinha would inject more bite and steel into Spurs head coach Thomas Frank's midfield department. He is capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season. At 30, Palhinha has still got plenty of football left in him to play at a high level. Therefore, Tottenham would do well to lure him back to English football this summer. Furthermore, Palhinha might even help Spurs challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. With all things considered, it makes sense for Frank to try everything in his power to snap him up before the end of this transfer period.
