Mom Is Upset Her Son, 29, Moved Back Home After a Breakup — Disrupting Her Peace: 'I Have Lived Alone for the Last Few Years'
A son's homecoming wasn't exactly what one mom had in mind — or even wanted.
In a post on the U.K.-based forum Mumsnet, a woman said her 29-year-old child moved back home with her following a breakup with his girlfriend.
The woman added that her son shares a 9-year-old daughter with his ex, so the preteen is often around on weekends too, "Every Saturday overnight till Sunday."
Explaining that her son and her granddaughter "take over the living room and TV," the woman said it upsets her because it disrupts her new normal. "I have lived alone for the last few years and enjoy my peace ... [and] I had time for hobbies that have now been put aside [on] the weekends," she wrote.
"I feel like saying this is my house, and I don't want it every weekend," the woman continued. "I feel every other weekend is reasonable."

In the comments section of the post, many Mumsnet users told the woman that they felt her son needed to be more responsible, given that he is now a parent himself.
"He's an adult. Why has he moved back in with you? He needs his own place now that he is a father," said one person, as one other wrote, "Why don't you encourage your son to be a big boy, pay his own way and parent his own child?"
Added one another: "He needs to get his own place, and he needs to be considerate that it's your home."

Others, meanwhile, suggested that the woman could find a middle ground by continuing to do her hobbies — but now take part in them with her family members.
"Can you involve your granddaughter in doing any with you? Its your house, so you can control the TV and change it so that they aren't just slobbing about ... and are engaging with you, perhaps playing board games, etc." one commenter questioned, also suggesting: "Do you all go out for walks?"
